NESLife attempt #3

Yeah, I'm giving it a go with each of the 4 starting critturs seperate

Its in the works :(

Apologies. I've no excuses. Yet I assure you an update will appear at some point this week!

@ erez87, since I am posting I want to express my appreciation for the Finner evolution tree you updated. Very cool :D

Time to make one up, then.

Blisstower: North King
Evolved from: Skimaret
Gene added (4 [saved bonus]): Carpetingx1, Symbiosisx2, "Exoskeleton"x1
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 4): Photosynthesisx1, Poisonx1
Role: large semi-aquatic filter-feeder/symbiont with photosynthesizers
Habitat: mineral-rich warm shallow water/coastline
Survival Status: Competing
Genes (15): Plankton Eating x3, Mineral Eating x1, Eating Dead Things x1, Large Size x1, Mass reproduction x2, Colorful Appearance x1, "Exoskeleton" x1, Carpetingx1, Symbiosisx2
Description: The Blisstower is named for its appearance. While the multiple spires inherited from the Bathysspire can be chaotic, they rise majestically from the water: beautiful calcium shells topped with blue and red "flowers" (vestiges of the photosynthesizing complex, now they actually act as flowers, attracting pollinators who eat the plants on the spires and carry sperm from the Tower to other Towers). In the water they are anchored onto the rocks there, forming a reef off of the shoreline. On their very top, there are divots out of which grow plants, which are partially (not lethally) consumed by the Blisstower to feed it -- in exchange the tower filters water and provides them a serene location, far from most predators.

Imagine a minaret sticking out of the water with plants growing at the top. Pretty simple, I went overboard with the description.

Thanks.

It actually has a mistake and a missing creature...

@North King, thankyou, that evolution looks cool! Seems that Lord Iggy's symbiotic plants would like to work with that.

If you want flowers, could I switch one gene from carpeting to 'nectar'? I'm not sure flowers should be counted under 'symbiosis' as we have it, which has so far been for two organisms actually joining together somehow.

A missing creature? Dont know which one! I get lost in how many species there have been in this game. I lose track... I can only focus on one update at a time :)

A mistake is in the newer evolutions from the scraper... The leaper is missing, and the new otterus are not coming out of it, even thought they need to.

That does look very cool! :D

BTW, what's the deal with aquatic creatures in Spore? Are you 'forced' to evolve onto land for the later stages of the game?

Well, aquatic creatures only exist in the cell stage, the start of the creature phase is the end result of the cell stage plus legs. However, you can make things which look like sea animals (I did that), however, they behave as sluglike land animals.

it seems that way

they have to discover fire, after all.
It's been debated that fire is not necessary for civilization.

Intrude: As we understand it, it is.

Since we are all human, our ability to predict, imagine, evaluate, or understand species with significantly divergent mentalities or methods of exercising sapience is highly impaired to say the least. Anthropic principle and all that that. Which is why science fiction is not so far off in handing us humanoid aliens constantly. Anything wildly different will probably not share common environments or interests--with no common ground to build on, there is no point to interaction. It therefore makes for bad drama and, similarly, bad roleplaying.

You can be human-like and not humanoid. Elephants can do a lot of human-like things, and they are not 'significantly divergent mentaities'. However they are not humanoid.

Mostly, however, I agree.

No, Iggy, I wasn't saying that you need to discover fire to become civilized (I'm no expert so have no real opinion on the matter) but the game is set up so that you have to discover fire to become a civilized species, and wouldn't be able to do it in the oceans. However, I smell expansion packs in the future (it is EA and Will Wright, after all).

Well, in Spore, of course. Sym and I were referring to reality. :p

At any rate, I blame excessive expansion packs on EA more than Will Wright- he never did that before Maxis was absorbed in carnivorous bloblike fashion by EA.

I'm not blaming Will Wright, I just mean when Will Wright does a project, mass expansion packs seem to follow, mainly because of how wildly popular his games become and its a no brainer to expand on them and sell more units because people will buy the stuff, no matter how seemingly useless the expansion content is.
