NESLife V

I have to draw the line somewhere - next turn, Immac?

Honestly, the player fascination with primitive algae is, well, fascinating, and comforting. It doesn't make for exciting updates right now. But it is nice to update the tree of life and see that players are branching plantlife more than animals.

yeah, like i said, its not a problem (point 3)

i'll resubmit based on the update.

BTW, are we allowed two different evolutions per player per era?

(And plants ftw)

That certainly is more plausible than a plant with animal tendencies. Although it would be quite sluggish when running on photosynthesis.

Better sluggish than starved. A large, open-area grazer with symbiotic algae living in its translucent back could probably work quite well. Of course, all of this is assuming a plant-animal dichotomy, which might not develop in this world's biology. Of course, given our tendency to apply familiar principles, it seems quite likely that we will indeed see a lot of the same evolutionary trends emerge.

So.... Update today?

I'm a lurker thinking of joining this NES, and long-time admirer of Daftpanzer's work, and I just have to say I am sick and tired of posts like these. The update will come when it comes, buddy. Being pushy like this is (or at least, should be) frowned upon by the NESing community.

I don't recall any firm promises ;)

I'm working on it, although I may get called away to a pub gathering with foreign student friends, some of whom I may never see again afterwards (they were back in town for graduation).

Well, where I come from (S&T), it's OK to get pushy if the author has promised an update that day.

That's why all the good posters on S&T from the days of the original RP left S&T. In the rest of the board, and probably most of the internet, being pushy on updates is annoying.

Usually, I write a satirical "Oh no! Time itself has frozen" in character as a means of urging faster updates. ;)

A beautiful warm sunny day today. This has been a rarity, so I shall be outside for some hours. Update this evening (GMT), hopefully!

FYI: we've more than doubled (+24!) the number of species with this single update. I'm really happy about all the input, but I may have to introduce limits in future just to make it workable. Not sure if it should be like the first 15 evolutions posted, or allow everyone to post ideas and then select only a few to be included (which could allow more variety, but be unfair on people who spent alot of time on making their evolution post)... Your opinions on this are welcome!

EDIT: I think I may do it like this: the first 12 evolutions are guaranteed to be included, except for where I have specific issues. Anyone posting after that does so at their own risk, so shouldn't go overboard on their description etc. I'll tend to include species that add to variety, help branch out the tree of life, and / or introduce cool ideas. How does that sound??

Sounds great. Anything for quickness in your NESes :D

Lol. Reminded me of

The Idea: to build a very rough alternate history from scratch in only a few days months, as an enjoyable creative exercise rather than a competitive game. I will be the 'mod'. People will create simplified cultures (tribes at the beginning, becoming one or more nations later on), and post 'orders' about what they will do in the next era. I will 'update' with a rushed obsessively overdone world map and some lines pages of text to say what happened in that era. The idea is to keep things very simple and go very fast slowly.
