I don't remember. Wait, the map forms 5-6 continents? Then you are expected to be isolated or with just 1 neighbour. Why not just 2 continents?
Well, 5-6 islands big enough for starting points. If you pick 2 rifts there should be 2 continents, each possibly having multiple islands connected through shallow water. In rare cases there could be a large enough island in a rift (true isolation) for a major civ.

The Zulu feel pretty strong right now.
In addition to the buffs they seem to have indirectly profited from the AI having a slower start: with a relatively small army of just four Spearmen I was able to demand ~150 yields per City State (but I don't know how it compares to the previous version).
The early game definitely feels like it has become easier in terms of military but Wonders are still contested.

So you can't attack just on land, like in classic Continents map script within a continent? Can it be adjusted, so you could? I was hoping for just 2 big continents with some interesting terrain and some small islands nearby.

You can try setting Land Scatter to Blocky, Sea Level to Low and Rift Width to Wide. Theoretically it should work. If not, try tuning the constants in the mapscript.

I hope you didn't mean "adjusted to be a default setting" because I, for one, very much prefer maps with 5-6 big islands to ones with only 2 large continents. :)
No, I meant if I could adjust it for myself using settings.

Thanks! Will try it out.

Not sure if it is related to this version (haven't played for months) but I noticed AI takes ages to found a second city. I don't know exactly why but it seems to be too scared of barbarians and doesn't know how to deal with camps.

Hol Dup... That Spearboi has 2 Formation Promotions
Just noting that the circumnavigation channel does not force ocean tiles, it's perfectly navigable with Sailing. And that the most common occurrence is to start in a continent with two other civs in standard settings. Sometimes you are in a detached small continent, reachable by sea. Truly isolated starts are rare.

However, tundra starts are quite common, since ai settlers with a bias go first, which leaves humans in the less biased terrain: tundra.

By far this is my favorite patch so far!
Though Defensive Pacts are still made quite as often, around turn 200 and the world is already spiraling into chaos, wars being fought everywhere.

AND, also the tactics AI improvement:

You can clearly see here that the Turks is sending everything they can in their merciless assault; almost no units sitting behind. Now, some people might say this is bad because if they get attacked in the opposite side they are totally defenseless. Yes, but AI actually needs this level of dedication to be able to take cities, because they are obviously no smarter than human players.

People, you gotta be prepared to protect your lands, the difference is easily felt :goodjob:

Oh ****.

Btw, this is on King difficulty.

Well, looks like the AI is aggressive again, at any rate. :)

I'll work on DPs soon.

AssignStartingPlots.lua: What was changed exactly?

First thoughts playing the patch.
-Pantheons do not get snatched at turn 20~ anymore, i actually managed to get God of Open sky and founded first with Greece without faith CS, i think this is a great change.

-I really did not find the AI aggressive towards me at all, i had 3 authority civs in my continent (Japan, Austria ane America) but neither of them was aggressive enough or has even denouncd me let alones raised an army and attacked, i'm halfway through medieval era.

-I found the AI very reluctant to expand, none of them vot past the 4th city before medieval although there was more than big enough space for them to expand into.
