Also, I went back to the Legacy version (6-12) and I'm getting told 14 turns to build a mine! Er... Is this right? Gold mine, specifically.

Is this a foreign worker? Foreign workers (e.g. you captured from another civ, or from barbs that captured from another civ) work at 50% speed for 50 turns. One of the things some people learn before criticizing the mod's balancing.

I see. Yes, it was.

LOL.

Also, I don't get the "VP is too difficult" theory from others on the thread. It has different balance structure, with some completely new mechanics (many Civ6-inspired, it would appear) than non-VP, so takes a while to get used to and see what works. Drop a few levels. I dropped from Deity (non-VP) to settler, and worked my way up. Have I crushed Settler/Chieftain/Warlord? Yes. Is Prince (what I'm playing now) too easy? Yes. I have three wars going on and I'm winning all of them. But I gain exposure to the new mechanics while the game forgives me for my many mistakes. Excellent players, experienced with this mod, should feel challenged on Deity. And that won't happen if I can come over from non-VP and crush it first time.

Gasp. Civ6 cribbed from us, not the other way around. They straight up took stuff from CSD and the CBO, including cluster farms and the concept of CS 'delegates.' That said, many things, like events and corporations, I cribbed (in concept, not execution) from Civ4. Human Civipede.

Archer vs spearmen isn't really on-era. Archers do just fine against warriors and chariots. Comp bows do just fine against spearmen, horsemen, etc. You're right that the current balance has archers performing poorly in this awkward time when spears/horses are rampant but comp bows aren't available yet but that doesn't mean archers are useless.

People aren't dismissing you because you're new. People are dismissing you because your posts are filled with uninformed hyperbole and come across as a child throwing a tantrum.

Then don't play the mod? You aren't a paying customer. I won't speak for others but I personally couldn't care less if you stop playing this mod and never come back. I personally hope people try this mod and new players pick it up but those new players need to have more grit than people like you in order to contribute, IMO.

I guess I'll get hyperbolic too- this view of the game is literally as wrong as you can get. You're the worst kind of ignorant person- the kind that is extremely confident in their misinformed ideas.

The people working on this mod do it as a hobby in their spare time. I'm sorry but you come across as an entitled brat.

Turns out the pay for working on mods in your spare time is really terrible. Who knew?

Also, note that while the game is 10 years old, we've only had full DLL access for half that time. And, no lie, 75% of our time has been spent cleaning up and rewriting Civ5's...questionable DLL to make it moddable. So. Many. Hard. Coded. Things. And since that time I've been full time working, raising a family, etc. etc. As have the many, many modding supporters and friends we've made along the way.

Update for those who care on my end: if I've been quiet lately, it is because our child care closed due to Covid and my wife, a medical professional, was called into full service during the duration of this crisis. So we've been a bit strapped for time around here.

go into your mods folder, search for unitcombat.sql

open the .sql file in any notepad program just like a .txt file. Search for whatever unit you want to change their stats to, in this case UNIT_ARCHER, and change the numbers to whatever you want

Remember not to die before golden release!

It's a sad thing that people in the net sometimes dissappear and we have no way of knowing if they are still breathing. At least @Txurce said goodbye, for a project that required all his spare time. The others simply went mute.

My bad. Imitation is the best form of flattery.

Thanks all, hoping to get some relief after this week's peak (maybe) in the AR region...that is, if our governor can figure out how modern medicine works...G
At least yours didn’t declare open war against your region’s doctors, call them all hucksters and liars, and threaten to cut their pay by 25% in February...

We care! Take care of yourself! Hope you and the family are as well as can be in these times.

I'll give you the triangle farms, first thing I thought was "guess they do know about VP" :) Also the CS quests are definitely VP inspired.

I don't think the Civ6 delegates are really the same at all though. Its a single permanent delegate that grants you permanent bonuses with the CS, and is not a physical unit. Its a good system, not necessarily superior to VP but I do like it.

I'm an intern, as much as i find this hilarious... It's actually sad that it took a deadly pandemic for the government to acknowledge that our pay, 600 Local currency; the equivalent of less than 40$ is not enough for an adult to afford a living and we actually got a pay raise.

Believe me, I get it. Take care of yourself, G.

My bad if I'm wrong. Were events in Civ4? I guess that was Civ5:BE. I didn't play Civ4, so I may be mistaken. War Weariness was Civ3 and Civ6?

Civ 4 had events, but most play with them turned off because of randomness/imbalance.
Try it, its good.

I've been hesitant to create a thread addressing the elephant in the room (I've seen the writing on the wall since early January thanks to alternative news I follow, aka Supreme Leader intel, but will refrain from delving into the politics of all the incompetence on full display by many of the so called leaders of this society), and it was getting eerily silent in certain regards, but I'm thankful that this thread has provoked some insight and that the community is now privy to some of the circumstances surrounding those who miraculously manage to continue churning the wheels of this tremendous project. The dedication seriously amazes me, so praise be, and stay safe Zebo & Co. Even through the current despair, uncertainty, and inevitable hardships, you all keep on chuggin' away at this thing and must be commended for your efforts. VP can be a vice, but also become a beacon in times like these; it's a beauty to behold.

Throughout the past couple months I've been less active on the forum, like many others, tending to reality and watching the world's events unfold. My health puts me at risk - I"m in a constant battle with illness, so I'm well versed in what a lot of people are now having to experience in the feeling of impending doom - but I'm still relatively young, and there's more fear in knowing the majority of this forum probably consists highly of those who might even be old enough to have played original Civ! Plus, I social distance like this

I want to take this opportunity to extend my utmost support and thanks to all those who are / will be affected by these events, and to give some encouragement by reminding you that we'll all overcome this blip on the radar, just as humanity always has. Besides, I can assure you all that Glorious Supreme Leader will not let some invisible foe swoop in to steal his thunder, before he can implement his own scheme for world domination!

Special dedicace to @ilteroi, the most faithful among the faithful of Vox Pop since the beginning. Most of the C++ poetry running in your CPU is from him.
