New Buildings Discussion

Hmm... I'm not a native english speaker, so I maybe don't get your point. But I mean literally FREE. The state has a lot of money so he decides to give it's people something. In Dubai for example, if you can't afford a house, the states PAYS for one.

There are many immigrants there that make a pittance. Btw, do they really buy a home or is this like Section 8 (in the US) where they'll pay a portion or full rent?

It's not for Immigrants, you need to be a citizen (which is quite difficult to become if you are an immigrant). I'm not sure if they buy you a house or just pay the rent for it, but you can live there for free. And those houses are more villas than litte flats.

@Koshling
Not sure about the Ordinances beeing like promotions... Of course you are right, you need access to water to get it for free.

Since the Existing building topic is locked for some reason I guess I will post here ...

@Hydro: We discussed this dynamic on bridges previously and now I've got it enabled for you. A positive # on the iRiverDefensePenalty tag makes things easier for attackers to cross a river if they suffer a penalty for doing so normally. You can't make things easier to attack from a river than not so the most you can really accumulate in a city from this tag is 50 (normally 50% penalty for attacking for a river so a 50 means no penalty) BUT you CAN go into the negative with this tag if you want to have Bridge attachment buildings that make it HARDER to attack from a river - though note that doing so will only affect those units that are NOT already immune to river modifiers when attacking as that is all this tag will affect.

Here is the plan ...

- Rope Bridge = 3
- Log Bridge = 6
- Bamboo Bridge = 9
- Stone Bridge = 12
- Brick Bridge = 15
- Covered Bridge = 18
- Viaduct = 21
- Causway = 24
- Chain Bridge = 27
- Castle Drawbridge = 0 (Since it can be closed it provides no penalty)
- Truss Bridge = 30
- Small Steel Arch Bridge = 33
- Large Steel Arch Bridge = 36
- Small Suspension Bridge = 39
- Large Suspension Bridge = 42
- Golden Gate Bridge = 45

Note I left some wiggle room at the end in case I add some futuristic bridges.

Easier to defend : a lift bridge ^^
Or a bascule bridge

I know there are more popular in Europe than in USA, but... Why only suspension bridge for moderne era?

XD

I wanted to be linear in what upgraded to what. Turns out different bridges are different for different locations so I had to cut some out to make it work. I wanted to have a Cable Stayed Bridge but I could not fit it in without it being immediately replaced. So the Chain Bridge was put in instead since its technically a type of Cable-Stayed Bridge.

I got most of the modern bridges from Sim City 4 ...

@Faustmouse

I fixed up a bunch of stuff and even provided you with a temp icon/button. Use it whenever you do not have an icon/button. Of things I found wrong ...

1. TECH_NONE doesn't exist. If you want no tech just put NONE.

2. You forgot a T in the strategy text tag.

3. You cannot use existing image tags such as the mathematics academy. However you can still reuse the icon/buttons by listing its location. However I will expect you to use all unique custom made icon/buttons and use the temp I provided as a place holder when you do not have one made yet. In short look at the Art Defines file to see how I fixed it.

4. Overall modular formatting was off.

I fixed all these so look them over and see how its done. Get the button made and you should be good to upload to the SVN.

@Faustmouse

Here a double challenge. A building and a resource.

--Building--

Hovercraft Factory
Req Tech: Amphibious Warfare
Obsolete Tech: None
Req Buildings: Factory
Req Resources: Parts AND Steel
Cost: 960
City Size: 6 or Greater
Requires Power

  • Produces 1 Hovercrafts
  • +3 :gold:
  • +1% :gold: with Aluminum Wares
  • +1% :gold: with Titanium Wares
  • +1% :gold: with Nanotubes
  • +1% :gold: with Computers
  • +1 :yuck:
  • +5 Flammability
  • +5 Air Pollution

Note: Tank Factory is a good template to use.

--Resource--

Hovercrafts
Reveals: Amphibious Warfare
Enables: Amphibious Warfare

Check out the "Resources" mod folder. I good example is the Tanks resource. You can copy and paste and just tweak the names and requirements as well as make an icon/button for it.

I have a lot more resources to make so I would be extremely helpful if you could make them for me. I can get you a list after you finish this task. Note that these will go in the "Resources" mod and not your mod.

Many thanks in advance. Let me know if you have any questions.

EDIT: So I tracked down all the Factories without products and here is a list.

- Lacquerware (Req Simple Wood Working)
- Newspapers (Req Journalism)
- Nutella (Req Assembly Line)
- Potato Chips (Req Assembly Line)
- Refrigerators (Req Refrigeration)
- Replacement Organs (Req Replacement Organs)
- Soda Pop (Req Assembly Line)
- Televisions (Req Television)
- Theremin (Req Electronics)

Al of these resources need to be made too. That should keep you busy for awhile. ;)

Ok thx so far!

What about the "requires Power"? I only found the tag "provides power" (bPower).

I'll try the Hovercraft Factory, the icons and the Ressource over the weekend. As well as getting the SVN.
Are all the ressources in the ressource folder? Because I looked for chocolate yesterday (is this COCOA?) but I think I didn't see the Wares and other ressources.

1. <bPrereqPower>1</bPrereqPower> is the custom Power tag. When I forget I always look it up under the Monorail Station. It should go near the bottom of the code. I put it right above the city size code.

2. Good luck with the Hovercraft Factory.

3. No not all resources are in the resource mod folder some are in the core under the terrain folder. Mainly the map resources but also some ones from RoM/AND (ex. Nanobots, Biofuel, etc).

4. Cocoa is a map resource I ment BONUS_CHOCOLATE which is a building made resource. Note it can be found in the Resource folder under "Manufactured".

Ok, I fixed the Nutella Factory, made the Hovercraft Factory and also tried the Hovercrafts resource.

Are the buttons for the factories correct (can't check since I have not yet installed Civ4 on my new Laptop)?

And how do I do the resource buttons? What format? Do they have a frame? I couldn't find them in the C2C Folder. It says they are in the art folder, but there aren't any?

@Faustmouse

Ok a few things ...

1. The "Faust" folder should go in the Resource mod folder when on the SVN and not your own folder.

2. See my picture for the alpha channel when making the DDS when using DXTBmp. Also make sure to save it as a DDS DXT3.

3. Its hard to see the hovercraft and nutella symbols in your icons. I recommend just having them be a picture of nutella and a hovercraft instead. You can see how I did it for the Tank Factory and Tank resource.

1. Yeah I know, it was just to make uploading to you easier, since I am not allowed to commit to the SVN yet.

2. Yeah, I used DXTBmp and klicked that button, but in the top right corner there was a black and white version of my building and not the white sqare with the small black frame like in your picture. I saved it as DSS DXT3 however.

3. Ok, I can do that. But I just can't find your Artwork for the Tank Factory! Nor for ressources, that's why I asked how they should look like. They are not in the "art" folder nor in the "XML/Art" folder.

Hmm... Is the artwork in the Civ4 ordner? Because I only get the C2C Folder but haven't installed the game yet.

1. Have you asked Koshling or strategyonly for permission to edit the SVN yet?

2. Did you download the example buttons I provided here? You will need to use the Alpha Button.bmp as your alpha layer.

3. My art is in my Hydro.FPK, however if you load the game you can see them in the pedia. Also the <Button>art/Goods/Art/goodhovercrafts.dds</Button> istotally wrong. That is a location in my art files meaning the "Goods" folder. Note its called "goods" becuase there use to be a resouce limit and instead I made a system of pseudo-resouces called "goods" which were actually buildings that were given for free by buildings but spread along trade routes using a special tag. Basically a building that spreads like a resource. In short your button location will have to be somewhere else.

4. Technically all the art are in a compressed FPK file. However we already have near the max amount of FPKs made. So any new art by other people (such as you) is eventually merged into the core FPK. For more info on that i recommend asking strategyonly about that since he is the one who deal with that stuff.
