New Job Openings at Firaxis

Well I think you could actually do it if you could convince them of some stuff
A)Bryce is better.
B)Creating units qualifes as working in the gaming industry
C)Experience creating real-time character animations for at least one shipped game product: A stretch but go with B on this.

Here's the problem with any argument used with regards to graphics... we don't... none of us in fact... have experience with making graphics like what is supposed to be in Civ IV. Our experience with graphics is probably very different from how it's going to be done in Civ IV... so I don't think any of our unit creators could qualify unless they have some other experience other than this.

EDIT: However, for the scenario-maker position... Rhye or Kal-El are the best choices, and have an actual shot... if they want it.

I think that they could really use some person who makes good maps, since the maps they have are always pathetic. I would love to work for a computer games company, sadly i wasnt born in the usa, or the uk, or even france and germany, so that possibility is ruined :(

:dubious: What does that have to do with anything? (You forgot japan btw)

Well, I have this part of the qualification:

Passion for making great games

Now I just need the rest ;)

Some people here would be pretty good at the job. I am wondering if most of the work would be at the scenario/mod level that a really dedicated fan scenario would be, or just the basic stuff (make a tutorial to explain game features and then make a world map in standard and huge size).

Unfortunately, I'm taking classes right now to work towards some of those education requirements in the same building as Firaxis. If StarFields was out by now, they probably would ignore that part if I was working towards it. (StarFields is a 3d space-fighter MMORPG adventure GTA-like game that my start-up is working on. I'm doing some general programming duties and most of the graphics modeling.)

.......to make another consulting proposal to Firaxis!?

Not only could you whip their code into shape in no time flat, you could give their beta testers tips on how to play like a GrandMaster! (i.e. You!!)

In Civ 4, I'd like to see:
1. A better tutorial (The hardest part of Civ is learning how to play the game!)
2. Shorter games
3. Championship Mode (Option)

:)

But where's written that I must live where they are? Couln't a scenario designer work at home and go to the studios once in a month?

I applied.
In the mail, after my list of qualifications, I wrote:

"Now, there's a problem.
I'm Italian and live in Italy.

But as I didn't read anything in the announcement about the location, I sent this mail anyway. After all, I've been able to make all this at home. A scenario designer could make most of the work at home and keep contact through internet (I've no connection problems (DSL) in any case) and go to your studios any time you want.

My carreer goals: I'm currently continuing studying in the University of Pisa to reach a 2nd level degree. But as I've already reached the first level, this is secondary for me compared to work in the team that makes my favourite game.
I don't have high salary expectations. I'd work for you at any price. My only requirement would be having all my travelling expanses to the city where you are in USA paid."

Hmm.... and I just happent to be getting out of the Navy in less than two months.... Anyways, the only way I'd be able to get in is if I could impress upon them my capabilities as a military/tactical/weapons/logistic consultant (so they can make their units more accurate), not to mention that I could repair almost any of their computer hardware, should it break....

As for Kal-El, I aggree 100%, but he's in the Navy and will most likely be chasing bin Ladin around for the next 4-6 years (I think IS's are required to enlist for 6, but can't recall off the top of my head), so that pretty much leaves Rhye.

They specify on the site that they don't do "cyberworking" and you must work onsite.

theres a lot of america's army on this site isnt there!

Meh i have nothing of the required qualifications, btu it would be excellent if an actual "fan" got the job and so could relate to us lot and perhaps even listen!

Hopefully someone from the civ community will get the job so that *we* can get a bit more influence in the customizing aspect of CivIV.
I would hate to see someone with no familiarity of Civ get the job, just think of what terrible ideas (s)he could come up with... :crazyeye:

Considering that the job requirements specifically say that you better be intimately familiar with Civ and have made mods for the Civ series already, it would have to be someone in the community.

Well, being in the office was a requirement when I last talked with them about it. The ad specifically says that they are studio-based and do not offer cyber positions.

Wow, I realized that I am fully qualified for 3 of the positions listed (as well as living nearby). Oh, well...
