Nice work again. Ah . . . I remember the good old days when I couple pump out units one right after the next--only yours are of better quality than mine were. But, time it seems has passed me by. Anyway, congratulations on another fine unit, and keep 'em coming.

Its good to see you still in the game though Utah...remember that your work is appreciated.

Yes, Utah, many of your units, whether you know it or not, have found a happy home in my Final Fantasy mod (Gondor Tower Guard=Bastok Paladin, Heavy Legionary=Hokuten Knight, Gladiator=Gladiator , Scutatio=Jueno Ducal Guard, Euro Spearman=Warrior, and Rohan Royal Guard=Ordalian Royal Guard)

could a human feasibly do that with such a large weapon, out of interrest?
Of course they could. :) I practiced all of these animations in full armor with a standard 9ft pike personally. OK, maybe I didn't :mischief: ... but I'd still like to believe it's possible. And if not, I can chalk it up to I created this as a fantasy unit. :)

And thanks again everyone. Honestly, I'm blushing.

Mr. Do: I think I know why CamJH did that. It's likely the same reason I do similar things. In order to have him just posting with the halberd, you have to keep his right hand very high up on the shaft (no comments) so that the pole reaches the ground. Meanwhile, when you switch to an attack, it takes most of the reach out of the pole-arm, so you need to move the hand farther back... the "correct way" to do so would be to have the character grab the pole with the other hand and basically shuffle the hands one at a time... but you have absolutely no idea how hard such a simple, subtle animation can actually be to pull off. I've gotten hung up before on movements that seem so basic, but that Poser has some trouble with. The biggest pain, for example, is a two-handed attack because you can't set the second hand to stay with the weapon. You have to manually move it in every frame to the same location on the weapon it was in the frame before. Very frustrating.

You speak the truth DPII. ;)
I had to relocate the left hand on this unit every frame as well so it looked like he was gripping the pole-arm with both hands. Luckily Kinboat gave me a wonderful tip on working with two-handed attacks. I just parented a small sphere to the point along the pole where the left hand should be. That way, in each frame all I had to do was reposition the hand to exacly where the sphere was... and then do some adjusting on the angles of hands/arms and so on. Definitely not as much fun as single-handed attacks. :)

I used that technique for some of my units too... but never on the weapons. I used it for the shovel for my Serf, positioning the ball on the ground where the point of the shovel dips into the ground so that I could keep it relatively in the same position.

How come you can't you just rig the pole as an extension of the hand?

I have said too much.... :o :mischief: .... 8 days to Christmas...

Well, you do parent the pole to the right hand. And you can't have a figure parented to two parts of another figure. It's either one or the other. So you have to have the left hand follow the pole somehow. What I really wish is that I could parent the left hand to the pole... so that it would be Right Hand --> Pole --> Left Hand. Then it'd work just fine, but it's not possible either since you can't actually attach a part of one figure to another figure.

another unit with a pole arm!
:D yay, today is a good day.

I can certanly use this unit as a halabardier. Finaly, a good graphic to replace the not so good halabardier that I have.
