Some mysterious theories related to dates of civs' reveals and first look videos have emerged, Victoria was announced on her coronation date and Hojo on the date he repelled Mongol Empire's invasion of Japan.

Any idea on Cleopatra's or Teddy's dates?

Here I handpicked couple of dates for this week from Wikipedia.

July 11th:
Ming admiral Zheng He sets sail to explore the world for the first time.

July 13th:
Battle of Gravelines: In France, Spanish forces led by Count Lamoral of Egmont defeat the French forces of Marshal Paul de Thermes at Gravelines.

July 12th:
1789 – French revolutionary and radical journalist Camille Desmoulins gave a speech in response to the dismissal of Jacques Necker France's finance minister the day before. The speech calls the citizens to arms and leads to the Storming of the Bastille two days later

July 14th:
Louis VIII becomes King of France upon the death of his father, Philip II.

An expedition led by (Spanish) Gaspar de Portolá establishes a base in California and sets out to find the Port of Monterey (now Monterey, California).

1789 – French Revolution: Citizens of Paris storm the Bastille.

July 15th:
Polish–Lithuanian–Teutonic War: Battle of Grunwald: The allied forces of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania defeat the army of the Teutonic Order.

Napoleonic Wars: Napoleon Bonaparte surrenders aboard HMS Bellerophon.

The Spanish Inquisition is officially disbanded after nearly 356 years.

I'm not yet conviced here is a good theory, but it's fun anyway.. :D

p.s. Next week is Catherine the Great's coronation date.. ;)

well it is a good week for France

well it is a good week for France

'good' is relative ;)

as per the guessing, I'd probably toss any 'dates' that didn't relate to a leader doing something.

some 'generic thing happened on this date to some country' likely wouldn't be a deciding factor.

So you first would need to find decent leader dates for everyone, then figure out which leader is actually in civvi.

I'm still quite skeptical about this theory. After all, they didn't do America on the first week of July, and that would be a no-brainer.

July being named after Julius Caesar with his birthdate being 13 July. Although I hope we have a new leader for the Romans.

6 july 640 the Battle of Heliopolis. Basically the fall of Byzantine Egypt to the Arab forces.
14-6 1777 Adoption of the US Flag and june 14th is now Flag Day in the US.

But you could probably find anything for a date and a country/civ/leader.
Still is fun to speculate.

July 14th is widely known as the national holiday of France.
As famous as the 4th of July for the US is, even abroad.
So a good day to release a featurette for France anyway I would say.

Didn't Firaxis release info on England on the day of Victoria's coronation? I think that is what got the theory going. Plus, I also seem to remember Firaxis releasing the wonder video for the Eiffel Tower around July 4th and mentioning that the architect for the Eiffel Tower also designed the Statue of Liberty. So I think that got fans speculating that Firaxis is using famous dates to correlate with their announcements.

I'd a reveal for France on Bastille Day is the most likely thing to happen if you believe there is a correlation between historical dates and reveals.

About time too.

I'm not seeing enough data points for a trend yet.

Going by the dates it seems France would make most sense followed by Spain then Poland but I doubt they'll be in vanilla and finally Germany but only if their UU is the Teutonic knight.

I don't think it needs to be a trend. They've done it once, and England was so out of the blue that they must have thought it was a good idea to coincide with her coronation. Clearly they aren't doing it for every civ, but when a good opportunity arises I can see them doing it again. Releasing a French civ on Bastille day seems like a good way to get media attention in France to me. It's by no means a sure thing, but I think France are the most likely next release.

Wait is Firaxis making us learn history, those scamps

Well one thing to be mindful of is the fact that you want the media to be at work on the day of.... so we wouldn't have gotten an American civ on July 4th because no one would be in office to cover it.

I think if there's a correlation it must be connected to the specific leader and it can't be so big as to get buried on a national holiday in their respective country.

Love the idea, and since it would appear tied to the leader 7/14 seems good for Louis (a better pick if they want to have France shove culture).

I don't think it needs to be a trend. They've done it once...

Twice actually.
England was revealed on Victoria's coronation and Japan on the anniversary of the Battle of Taka Island which was a great Japanese victory over the Mongols during Hojo Tokimune's reign.

America and Egypt may probably be an exception to that rule since they're revealed since the day of Civ 6's announcement, so they could be just fillers on weeks with no special dates.

Don't know why this isn't the same for China. Maybe their first look involves new mechanics that are not intended to be shown up so early.

Of course this is a thin speculation, but it's been hard to establish a pattern for those weekly reviews.

Not anymore. Ask Eder. :D

Well, First Look England was released day after the legendary England-Iceland match :p

I expect one FL video to be devoted to France and second to either China or new big mechanic.

Soon it will be one month since last big reveal (E3) so I expect some new big data.
