July 25 306 - Constantine the Great is elected emperor by his troops; on the same day in year 315, the Arch of Constantine is built

July 27 1299 - According to Edward Gibbon, the beginning of Ottoman state; also same day in 1302 - crucial Ottoman victory over Byzantium which allowed their further expansion.

August 3 - Columbus started voyage.
