Nintendo Wii

Nope!

Chukchi, it's a good thought though. I never made that connection.

Man, naming it wii is stupid. I'm a die-hard nintendo player so I'm still going to buy it, but the name Revolution was a million times better and it stuck with the people. I'm already thinking about covering up the name Wii on the system and putting Revolution on it. Hopefully they realize how dumb a move this is and change it back. :(

I was expecting the name change at some point. They changed the name of the Gamecube from something else (Dolphin, I think) and the first time I heard the name 'Revolution' it was in an article that claimed it was only a working title.

Wasn't expecting this though. [Immature]I'm hoping they release a new handheld though, they could call it Wee Wii[/Immature]

I thought this was a thread for Nintendo Wi-Fi, misspelled,. Man, Wii is a bad name. I honestly hope they will change it back to Revolution, or something else cool. People will make fun of the name. It won't change who wants to buy it, though. That Red Steel game looks awesome, though, :D.

And I'll continue to call it the Revolution.

I think I'll just go ahead with Nintendo HitlerStalin, only console on the market to ever conquer Poland. ;)

NES -> SNES -> N64 -> GCN -> NHS

The legacy continues...

So I saw this news yesterday from Penny Arcade and I thought it sounded really weird, and quite awful.

"Wii" opens up the door to many many puns though. Wii will change the world, I'm sure Wii will. ;)

After a while I also found that "Wii" rolls off your tongue very well. I can't imagine going to the games store and asking for a Wii though. Damn that's going to be awkward.

Thought came to me while trying a Google Image Search on Wii....why not capitalize the i's? I mean, who wouldn't want a brand new Nintendo World War Two? I suppose the HitlerStalin could be the portable version.

And God...have you seen their statement on the name change?
Find it on the old Revolution address...link in the post above.

Whatever it was...they had something very potent...

Someone's going to end up going to jail over this. And all because a worker at GameSpot offered one to a 12 year old.

I'm guessing everyone will call it that new nintendo console instead of Wii.

even "that new ninteno console" is a much better mane than Wii. Kinda reminds be of This Old House. They could have had Bob Villa do promo spots.

I very much doubt that's the strategy. Make up stupid name then change it a week later? Oh yeah, good way to maintain trust with your market.

It should be noted that, despite the name, I still want to get a Revolution...Wii...whatever! A name means nothing when it comes to gaming, it's the games that matter.

They won't be able to call it that because of the National Health Service.

It could be called Turdonastik 2006 for all I care. The 3 dimensional controller would be awesome for sword games.

I added the bold to make a point. They used Wii to represent people playing together, and the fact that hopefully anyone can play the system. But Wii sounds bad. Revolution is more powerful. Like Revolutionizing the game world.

Plus, the advertisement is lame. Wii will change the world of gaming. Wii are bringing about new things. Worst... puns... ever.

Nontheless, I'm going to get it. Madden looks awesome, jerk the controller up to hike the ball, then, to pass, hold down the button of the receiver and make a throwing gesture, the harder the "throw" the harder the in-game throw. Jukes and stiff-arms would also be motion related.

I think a Zelda game would be awesome to.

But Wii? Please. When everyon is sitting around a conference table, how does Wii come about? Were they drunk?

They could just go with the WE (women's entertainment) TV channel's motto. Wii is for me.

I dont know what people see in that controller.I would hate to seem like a fool constantly waving my arm around in the air making crazy hand gestures.

You wouldn't be a fool if you were swinging a lightsaber on the TV.
