Nintendo Wii

It aint all THAT bad.

I reacted badly when I heard it a while ago too.

It won't affect how I play it after all...

And I see nothing wrong with the control idea, or the wa they are go going.

Look at all the other stuff they invented that people said was mad...

Analogue sticks, rumble packs, memory cards...

They're combining the all-encompassing praise of Windows Millenium Edition, with the hint of Francophilia that Americans just can't get enough of.

This is going to be up there with the foreign sales of the Chevy Nova...

Francophilia ? Wii sounds French to you ?

Oh I just realized... you mean it sounds like oui ?

I cant remember anoyone saying those things were mad.On the other hand Wii sounds like for mentally challanged children and ******** bullies.

I'd be more likely to play something that had a remote-control-like controller. I'd be less likely to play something called the wii.

Although since I don't play console games (I think the wiring in my Atari is shot :() it doesn't make a lick of difference.

Excuse me while I go take a whicked big YES!!! :p

I don't think the name is that bad, better than Revolution when your console really isn'l one...

It's quite funny. I just had a quick look at the Nintendo usenet groups. Their reaction was...exactly the same as ours. Now, if even die-hard Nintendo fanboys are going "Oh my God." I think the Big N is in a lot of trouble...

One message was especially funny as it pointed out that a lot of the new games that come out from Nintendo will probably have names like "Mario Wii", "Pokemon Wii" etc.
Poke-Wii...

Nintendo must love shooting itself in the foot...

Just be glad it isn't "Wii Wii"... :groans:
Unless they come up with another weird people game thing like Pikmin, only named Wii...

Right now, I wouldn't put it past them.

Well, they could have gone after golf sensation Michelle Wie, but then they had to go and fudge up her name!

gameboy-esque controller (One-handed, with one d-pad? They've abandoned shooters??)
This month's Game Informer has a first look at a Revolution (Wii) game and it's a shooter. Looks pretty cool, because you use the controller like a light gun and aim it at where you want to shoot the gun. Also, when you twist the controller, your hand and gun on camera twist and you can shoot it "gangster style". I don't play that many shooters, but my interest is already piqued with this one.

Bad, bad name.

As said on /. :
"I think Nintendo America is having a very long talk with Nintendo Japan right now."

You know, there are people out there named Wii. They'll find this thread one day, too. And then they'll track you all down, with their friends. Who are also called Wii.

And they'll smack us to death with the console?

Could be targetting the emerging CHINA market

But this seems rather strange stratergy as traditionally europe and US markets are well developed.

Chukchi, people wouldn't confuse the two. Though I understand your point about Revolution being a 360° turn. In most people head's they wouldn't make the connection unless it's marketed that way (or through viral marketing).

Wii is just a dumb name. But I'm still very interested in the console. And I'll continue to call it the Revolution.
