Nobles' Club XCVIII: Huayna Capac of the Inca

Emperor Epic 1796AD Cultural Win
Spoiler :
To 40AD

Inca is always fun to play and with a site like this i'll SIP.

Now we may have been able to move to get the second corn just out of my border.
So i meet the ottomans and deide to worker steal from them, heheh.

I take peace with the ottomans, while teching AH-Mining, Masnory (we're Industrious remember?) and Bronze Working. Built 5 quesha's and went after Genghis.
He only had two archers, poor genghis.....

Started settling and roading towards memehd while building some wonders, Henge, GW, And the oracle. Decided to take COL from the oracle. I had choose religions on so the religions had some variety in this game and i founded buddism which i choose to spread to JC. Toku and bouddica are christian.

I finialy took out memehd, istanbull looks like a really good city.

And here is my empire at 40AD.

Spoiler :

After i finished the ottomans, i started building up my empire, i decided to purposly delay liberalism, i knew that my empire would be so stong without it, i didnt need it. I decided to go for a cutalural win here. Even though we didn't have marble i still went for parenthon and GL, along with the sisting chaple to start cultrual pressing the ai's.

I decided to tech up to democracy and then focus on culture. However i did invest in espoignage, ceasar had been to war with boudicca so i decided to take advantge of his cultural problems. I musta flipped about 5 of his cities this game.

He did end up dowing on me eventually but i had control of the AP and was able to vote a peace deal. ha!

To Victory
Spoiler :

After that i focused my tech path towards electricity (for broadway) and then towards medicine, for the bonus' from biology and Medicine for sid sushi.
My civics were US/FS/Caste/FreeMarket/Pacisifm. I actually had to reload this game as i acciddently set my cultural cities to produce merchants haha.

JC dose dow on me in the final turns of the game and manages to take a city. Too late JC, i win!

Pffft, only a score of 40k with HC on epic?! Whatever...

And the save, fun map, great leader. Thanks Dalamb!

I don't like this specific game anymore :( Too easy. Popped BW  I like huts because it gives some Gold to run on 100% early on for a while but argh, popping such a key tech is so annoying!

On Noble, with no huts or random BS.

Spoiler :
Looks like a neat map, but with a nasty neighborhood.
Spoiler :

Started with Animal Husbandry to get the pig spot right out of the blocks, and figure out where horses were, then went straight for Bronze Working, before going for the wheel and pottery. Then Writing and now not far off the Alphabet. Hopefully I can backfill a little, would be excellent if I could get horse archers in the near future.

Have founded 2 cities in my near area, and am trying to find out where to put the 3rd settler. Probably NW to block off Mehmed, and then backfill near the capital with two more cities, plus one or two in the tundraland. At least there is some food.

Have gotten the horses hooked up. Like you can see from the picture, next turn the barracks in 2nd city SW of capital goes online, and chariots follow suit - from there and capital. The hope is to then head straight for Ghengis Khan. He just founded his 2nd city and they're not well-defended right now, but it's on a hill so didn't even try to take it with Queshuas. The odds was laughable.

The other targets are a bit far away, and for once I'll try to not overstretch early on and break the economy's back. But Ghengis Khan has a really nice spot with four (!) food resources, so I'd like to get it one way or another. Just hope proper barbs don't mess me up soon, cause there are animals all over the place. Must have killed close to 10 already.

Not seen Julius Caesar and Boudica's cities yet, but based on where I came across their scouting party I'm guessing Caesar is W-ish of Mehmed, and Boudica SW.

Not reading any spoilered posts until I'm done, but wanted to make an update on my progress, at 800BC.

Spoiler :
After checking unit info better I dropped the plan to chariot attack Genghis Khan in favour of a pile of Queshuas. Lost an axeman (and a Queshua or two) on the first city, but attacked the capital with 1 axeman, 1 chariot and 12 Queshuas. Lost 8 men to their 3 archers, and a couple more on the last city. The Monghols were wiped out in 950BC.

Had a "Holy Crap!!" moment while attacking the first city. A Queshua beat an archer with 9.9% win chance! Promptly renamed him "Rambo Sharpaxe". He got 6XP from that first insane battle, and 2 more from an 85% combat on the last city. Up to 11XP (and triple City Raider) already :king:

Have settled some more cities now, and city number 9 goes up next turn in 775BC (at the northern X in the overview shot). Despite my promise, this has gotten the economy in some trouble, but I've tried to stay ahead of the curve by getting Currency and establishing some trade routes and the (meagre) beginnings of a cottage economy. Researching Code of Law now and plan to peace out for a while to get the economy up to speed again. Tempting to have a go at Mehmed's Hinduist capital with barely defences, but this time I'll clean the blood off my teeth :)

Will try to get up some wonders, though I suspect it's too late to get the Pyramids. Would love to get the Great Lighthouse, but all coastal cities are weak for now. Will also try for the Great Library, if the tech rate recovers soon enough.

Overview picture
Spoiler :

Monarch/Normal. Huts&Events. 1040 BC.

The Incans only have three cities, but...
Spoiler :
... they are Cuzco, Istanbul, Karakorum and this world is without Ottomans and Mongols. The competitors were met in this order: Mehmed II 3720, Genghis Khan 3520, Darius I 3120, Julius Caesar 2240, Boudica 1880, Tokugawa 1360 - quite the neighbourhood.

The huts provided some gold and experience. SiP and built only Quechuas. The tech path was mining, BW, AH, wheel, IW, pottery, fishing, masonry.

There is much to be done in terms of building. There is little wrong in starting with three fine capital cities.

Hi civfanatic members. I've been playing civ4 mods for awhile and losing most of the time so I decided to try out some games to improve. WOW my first noble win but too easy so will try a bit harder when there is another game. Thanks for the game hope to see another 1 sooner. I hope I also post it right, first time also. I don't want to spoil anything

Spoiler :
After playing Shaka noble and lost because of Mehmed, this time I decided to rush him before he can take most of the land. First to go down the drain. What was weird was Boudica peace vassal me before I can attack her. I guess she knew my plan ;). The next guy I was worry about was Ghengis to my south. He was already mad even when I didn't trade with Darius. So my next target even if Rome was befriend with him. So the story short, everyone became my vassals and won a conquest victory.

Some of the things I learn:
1. Check enemy resources and technology for military
2. Know your enemy and befriend only to backstab because if you don't, they will (unless they only do this on mods)

I wish that I would have quechas rush and won it faster. Hope to see someone here do that with fastest time.

Chuwe3y you need to put the info of your game inside spoilers

welcome to civfanatics bdw! :)

circa 1000BC
Spoiler :
Started working the plains forest tile to pour out Quechas. Met Genghis and Suleiman and decided to rush both, but screwed up the order. Should have done Suleiman first because he had horses (which I knew, because my first tech was AH). So after I took out Genghis, I went for Suleiman only to find he had chariots. D'oh! Rather than either give up the rush or the game, I went into Worldbuilder and replaced all his chariots with archers. :mischief:

So now two Civs are eliminated, and I have three capital sites, one crap city of Sulieman's that I should have razed, and one I settled on the gems north of Karakorum. I settled a city up in the tundra and gifted it to Toku to get him to Pleased. He has an archer wandering around the area, but I don't know if he'll get it to the city of Bait before the barbs take it. I learned from Seraeil that Toku is easy to use as an attack dog, so I thought I'd try.

I'm currently trying to repair the economy by working commerce tiles, and I'm making a play for the Oracle, but it may be too late. I'm midway through Meditation and only on 30% research.

Boudica is Buddhist and Caesar Hindu. Buddhism reached me first, and Boudica is closer, so I converted. Will just have to find ways to keep Caesar pointed at other people, because I definitely can't defend myself against Praets yet.

Fun game! Inca rushes are

Now that I think about it some more, I think I'll restart the game. This was my first Inca rush, and now that I've done it once, I want to try it again without using WB.

Aren't you the one who wrote about a WB addiction? I don't understand the fun in first checking the map and then playing. A lot of the fun is gradually exploring and finding out who your neighbours are. But if it's hard to play without checking WB, you can just delete the file.

I've come to 800AD now. Building up an army but also spamming wonders. Never won culturally so that would be fun, but probably had to start off differently if that were to be achievable. Nice change of pace to see cultural borders gradually eat into their land though :)

Um, no...

I replayed it (actually twice now) to learn how to do a Quecha rush. I learned:

1. The "rush" part is really really important
2. Normal speed isn't great for getting your Quechas to the front before the enemy has something besides archers to fight
3. Keeping the economy from tanking during a rush is hard
4. I suck at figuring out how many guys to send to the fight

Well, okay, the last one I already knew. :p But I'm better at war than I used to be, and mostly it's from replaying the same battles a few times over to see what works the best.

In that case I apologise, I just remember there was a thread about that some time ago, but I just skimmed through it.

Wholeheartedly subscribe to point 3! Not just in the rush phase either, but early warfare in general, or even quite heavy REXing. So easy to break the economy and than have to chase your own tail for half the game to catch up.

Not sure about point 2 though, but it depends on the level. I'm a Noble player so things are obviously easier there than at the higher difficulties. That said, my own early rush didn't work out great, and it took quite a buildup before I was confident of taking out the 3-4 archers and warrior. Thankfully Queshuas are cheap and thus fast to produce, so it's not a huge deal to see them bounce off the city walls.

At slower speeds, research is slowed, but movement is still one tile per turn. It takes you just as long to move to the front at any speed, which means the Normal speed stack might get there as the horses come online, while the Marathon speed stack will get there before the enemy has even finished researching Animal Husbandry. Just as an example.

If you were facing 3-4 archers and a warrior, then it was likely because the enemy started whipping one unit per turn after your DOW while you were moving across their territory. That's why getting there before slavery is really important.

That start is just pure win. What an incredible start for the inca's. Great games guys.

Hello civfanatics, lurking here for a while now since I began to play Civ IV again after several years, until now without too much success, still struggling on monarch difficulty. I'll try this one one monarch too, thougt long about SIP, because I saw the coast in the southeast, but i SIPed. I won't Queucha-Rush and try to report on the suggested time stamps.

Edit:

Spoiler :

Started with worker and Animal Husbandry, seems like a no-brainer (at least to me ;) )

So, a little bit earlier as planned, but I won't be able to play further for a little time, so here's what happend.

Meet Khan in Turn 14, got AH and worker in T18 and started training Queuchas and improving the pig, then the plains corn (saved one worker turn, I think) and then the sheep. Stole an Worker from Khan in Turn 27 (not sure if this was so clever, considering the mongols aren't unforgiving folks, but I got peace after killing their scout) and this worker improved the gold, got mining after AH.
After mining I researched the wheel despite all the forests, because the two worker should have something to for the next turns and I wanted to get the second city fast. Meet Caesar in Turn 37.
In Turn 38 I got the wheel and went Bronce (totally forgetting the UB of the Incas -.-)
Cuzco went to working on a settler in Turn 44 (size 4 working improved pig, corn and sheep), I had seven Queuchas at this time, one in the capital, one at the location of the second city and five scouting/busting.
Stole a worker from the Ottomans in Turn 47;) Got Peace and my second city in Turn 51, Tiwanaku partly pre-choped monument -> improved cow (mistake, should have gotten Pottering earlier to chop out Terraces rather than monuments, I guess) Next Settler came instantly because I found copper north.

Yeah, what to say, if someone even doesn't listen to himself -.- Recognized it several turns after settling.

After Bronce I went Pottery (got T55) then writing (got T60), then Math for all that forrests (got T83), then Riding because I think I should maybe Horse-Archer Rush one (or both?) of my oppenents, because they more or less block the juicy lands. Got Riding in T95 and are now Hunting->Archery.

Some mistakes (Terrace, Settling one field wrong, forgetting Archery) are due to me hasting a little bit, I fear. How much do you think I messed up untill here? ;)

Map with dots (Even those I'll never reach before others, green -> want to, red -> perhaps, white -> filling cities)

PS.: Totally forget I'm playing in German, I hope it's not to troublesome.

Please excuse the unspoilered information, thanks for reminding Pangaea.

Please put your update in spoiler tags. People who haven't played it yet don't necessarily want to know about various details from the map, opponents, tactics, etc.

Hi there!
After lurking for a while trying to learn how to play CIV4 better, I decided to register and try a Noble's Club game to improve my game. I've been struggling recently trying to get a victory on the Noble difficulty. As I have read elsewhere, the gap is, for me, quite high.
I've read DMOC's deity playthrough with Willem Orange, and even if most of the high level srategy flew over my head, I tried to apply some advice to my modest game. I'm currently at 825 BC with the Incans.

Here's my game so far, Noble difficulty, Normal length, and huts:
Spoiler :
In Cuzco, the first build order were Worker/Quechua/Worker/Settler/Terrace. For techs, I went Animal Husbandry first to quickly build pastures around the capital,. I got very lucky with the huts as they gave me both the Wheel and Writing. In between, i teched Mining to build the goldmine in Cuzco. Then Pottery/Bronze Working. Once I decided I wanted to build a city near horses SW, I went for Horseback Riding. After that, fishing for the lake tile in the horse town (a bit useless after all) and Alphabet for early tech trading. The last turn I played, I just got construction. Got Hunting and Archery throught tech trades.
I tried to use my workers more efficiently. I realised I didn't need to build road on every improvements so I avoided a lot of lost turns. I concentrated on getting the roads as straight and efficient as possible.
For the third town, I wanted to get the copper, but maybe I should have tried to take copper and horses with only one city.
The closest civs, Mongols and Ottoman seem weak. I've been trying to build units instead of every city buildings. I lack warmongering experience and if some of you could examine the save, I'd love some advice on that. I'm going to try and build some catapults.
I'm thinking about taking the gold hill + horses NW to stop Roman expansion, but maybe it's too far from my mainland.
I'm also trying to get a Great Scientist in Cusco. Having 2 dedicated scientists slows growth a lot, and I'm still very bad at using specialists. I think it's one of the points were I'm the most clueless in term of strategy. I tend to avoid them altogether, so this time I'm trying to stick with it.
That's about all I remember now, I'm including the save if anyone wants to have a look. I have to say that the DMOC playthrough read has made me play much more carefully, and combined with the nice strating location, this game start seems decent. My previous Noble game starts were always less promising.
Last thing, I always have trouble having a clear objective of what I'm doing in CIV: this time it sounds like conquering Mongols and Ottomans to be well-establish on the continent and prevent Rome's expansion. Is that doable short-term?

Here's the save link (I couldn't find the attachment option)

Anyway, thanks for reading me.

So, until Liberalism:

Spoiler :
Got Alpha in Turn 115 and ended an successfull horse archer rush on Khan the same turn, went after Metal Casting for workshops and forges. Razed one mongol city, kept two. In Turn 124 the horse archer attack on the ottomans ended also successfully, two cities were kept, two auto-razed, captured Stonehenge.
After Metal Casting T128 went for Currency for my suffering economy.
After Currency T146 -> CoL for courthouses.
Got Col in T151 and started building them.
Went after that for CS (irrogating) and then for Aesthetics->Literature->Music for GL and the GA from Music for a Golden Age, went then for Paper, Education and Philosophy in Prepariton for Liberalism.
Build the Pyramids in 130 AD (!), went there for fail gold out of stone and industrious, but okay -> Representation.
Delayed Liberalism all the way until I got Rifling for it in T239 in 940 AD (more delay would certainly be possible, but I wanted to get cavalry for a big attack on the remaining civs, starting with boudicca.)

Spoiler :
It's very doable to think of taking out the Mongols and Ottomans. Does Genghis have horses yet? I can't remember the map offhand, but I do know Karakorum is a beautiful city. It's on a hill, so harder to take, but well worth it.

If you replied using the box at the bottom of the thread, you won't see the attachment option, but if you click 'go advanced', it should be there. Unless it's disabled for the newest members to prevent spam - not sure exactly.

Anyway, welcome to the new blood, Soviet Travolta and Marvinlegend.
