Nominate National Meals

Steak and some fries or something is fine for the middle of the country, but here, we eat pork. And up in the frozen North, we eat clam chowder.

Yeah, for my neck of the woods I was thinking pulled pork barbeque, baked beans, cole slaw, corn on the cob, hush puppies, sweet tea, and pecan pie.

Mmmm.

Germany - marinated beef with mashed potatoes (my favorite); fried sausages with french fries (very common)

Hungary - goulash and lángos with beer

Hungary - goulash and lángos with beer

All of which are eaten extensively out of Hungary. They don't seem something that would say "Hungarian!". Hmm, is lecso popular in Hungary? Because as outsider it seems to me to be the most "hungarianish" of those- for while it is eaten outside of Hungary, it is not very true to its form outside of Hungary and Slovakia.

Of course, I could equally say England's national dish is a curry, and Scotland has the deep-fried mars bar.

Scotland invented the chicken tikka Masala. One of the most popular curries in the UK.

For Scotland i would nominate...

Scotch Pie, Chips, beans all washed down with IRN BRU.(Apparently illegal in US due to E numbers.)

that is instead of Haggis, neeps n tatties. (No a haggis is not an animal i believe it was originally the inside of a part of i sheep but is no longer.)

Switzerland:
Rösti and Bratwurst?
or Fondue
or Raclette
or Spätzlipfanne

:)

These meals might be quite popular in formerly Austrian-Hungarian countries but I just heard from Langos and Lecso from my hungarian wife. ;)

For Franconia, it's Schäufele:

Labskaus is stereotypical, Schäufele is both stereotypical and popular. Personally, i am not very fond of either...

The US has got to be hot dogs and coca cola.

The great majority DONT serve hot dogs, and its hardly an american food since its not native to america.

If anything fast food is american. The whole fast food industry started here and thats where its most prevelant.

I'm actually putting my money on Italy to win this one.
I mean... Pizza!

And everything else with red sauce. And mozzarella. And garlic. And romantic restaurants to eat a wide variety of stuff like it.

I think we're battling it out for second place here.

I still say that american pizza is better then that crap they serve at italian restruants (which may or may not be mostly italian).

But seeing as how i hate cheese, i dont really like italian food.

The only things characteristically US about that picture are the hush puppies.
