Éowyn was a noblewoman/shieldmaiden of Rohan, daughter of Éomund and Theodwyn, younger sister of Éomer and niece of King Théoden. Forced to spend most of her youth caring for Théoden in his declining years, she yearned for an opportunity to prove herself in battle. She was driven to despair by her unrequited love for Aragorn. When she was rebuffed by the men she longed to accompany into battle, she disguised herself as a man and accompanied the Rohirrim army to Minas Tirith, where she won great renown in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields by slaying the Witch-King of Angmar, with the help of Meriadoc Brandybuck, whom she had carried with her. Severely wounded by the Ring Wraith, she nearly died, but recovered with Aragorn's help in the Houses of Healing. There she met Faramir, the Steward of Gondor, and fell in love with him. The two married in TA 3020 and settled in Ithilien after the War of the Ring.

This ability was a little more justifiable before the second Nazgul was cut from the game (due to lack of players), but it's still not well-designed. Vigilante-killing powerful cultists is cool, but not so much when there's only one target in the game, and he wasn't even in the game until Night 6. Regardless, Arakhor faithfully sent in orders every night and was one of the most active players in the game, playing a large part in his team's victory.

Kinda funny that ATPG got this role. In the TWC Star Wars game I hosted a few years ago, he argued that Mace Windu (which ended up being Palpatine's cover role) would have a more badass power than nightkill resistance. This ability is slightly different, but it's still amusing nonetheless.

Dooku was a Jedi Master who fell to the dark side of the Force and became a Dark Lord of the Sith, known as Darth Tyranus. Born on the planet Serenno, he was the heir to vast wealth and the noble title of Count. Dooku was taken by the Jedi Order as a child and apprenticed to Thame Cerulian. As a Jedi Knight, he took Qui-Gon Jinn as his first Padawan, and later trained Komari Vosa. Dooku was a respected instructor in the Jedi Temple and one of the most renowned swordsmen in the galaxy. Only Masters Yoda and Mace Windu were considered his equals.

Camikaze took a risk and recruited ATPG blind after Pizza revealed he was Star Wars in the thread. Luckily it paid off, and it allowed the Star Wars Cult to build a lot of momentum, until they were decimated by three lynches in a row on Days 5 - 7. Pizza only ever used the scan to detect Force users, which was probably the least useful, and ended up scanning LOTR town players with it.

Lando Calrissian was a male human professional gambler, entrepreneur, smuggler, and general throughout various points in his life. Born on Socorro, he became a gambler and con man early in his life and acquired his own ship, the Millennium Falcon, in a game of sabacc with a man named Cix Trouvee. He went on to have numerous adventures with the Falcon and its piloting droid, Vuffi Raa, during which he ran afoul of a Sorcerer of Tund named Rokur Gepta, whom Calrissian eventually killed. After a series of events led to him losing the Millennium Falcon to a Corellian named Han Solo on Bespin, Calrissian eventually became the Baron Administrator of Cloud City for a time—a position he once again gained through sabacc.

It's possible that the Star Wars Town would have acted as a more cohesive unit had Autolycus survived longer and gotten in some more scans. His ability was about to progress, but he was lynched before he had the chance.

Boromir was a valiant warrior known in Gondor for his greatness, having already achieved great merit in Gondor prior to the Council of Elrond. He was the eldest son of Denethor II, who was Steward of Gondor during the War of the Ring, and his wife Finduilas. Even the people of Rohan, particularly Éomer, admired him.

He survived Visorslash's attack, but sustained a permanent injury that was quickly healed by none other than Sprig, Visorslash's mason. The idea was for him to become the post messages from a town network, so that members wouldn't have to risk themselves, but azzaman was under suspicion for a lot of the game - for awhile, people actually thought he was Star Wars. Most of the time, he posted random nonsense, but the two times he said something serious, he advocating lynching the two cult leaders. Additionally, surviving that attack from Visor was crucial in providing the LOTR Town a numbers advantage throughout the game, all the way to the end of the game. azzaman showed that you can be a key contributor even without networking.

Yoda was one of the most renowned and powerful Jedi Masters in galactic history. He was known for his legendary wisdom, mastery of the Force and skills in lightsaber combat. Yoda served as a member of the Jedi High Council in the last centuries of the Galactic Republic and reigned as Grand Master of the Jedi Order before, during and after the devastating Clone Wars. Following the First Battle of Geonosis, Yoda held the title of Master of the Order in addition to that of Grand Master. In his centuries of service to the galaxy and the Force, Grand Master Yoda had a hand in the training of nearly all the Jedi in the Order, including such luminaries as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ki-Adi-Mundi and Oppo Rancisis; all of whom would come to serve on the Jedi Council along with him.

Darth Maul

Darth Maul was a male Dathomirian Zabrak Dark Lord of the Sith who lived during the waning years of the Galactic Republic. Originally a Dathomiri Nightbrother born on Iridonia and known only as Maul, he was given, as an infant, by his Nightsister mother on Dathomir to Darth Sidious, who trained him in the ways of the dark side of the Force as his secret apprentice on a secret Mustafar training facility, along with the help of a split personality droid. Maul became a master of Juyo, Jar'Kai, and Teräs Käsi, with training in Niman, and chose to wield a red-bladed saberstaff in combat. Though well trained in the ways of the Sith, Maul was technically a Sith Lord in violation of the Rule of Two because his own Master was at the time apprenticed to another, the Muun Sith Lord Darth Plagueis.

BL was working with the cult for a few phases before officially becoming a member. Amusingly, he was lynched immediately after his conversion, much to the chagrin of his teammates. Consequently, he never used his ability or participated in any cult kills.

BSmith1068 (Pippin):

BSmith used his ability to its fullest potential and then some. He was a key part of the LOTR Town network before his death, after which the network pretty much fell apart (mostly due to choxorn's death).

Chewbacca (or "Chewie", as he was known by his friends) was a legendary Wookiee from Kashyyyk and co-pilot of Han Solo's ship, the Millennium Falcon. He was the son of Attichitcuk, the husband of Mallatobuck, and the father of Lumpawaroo. Chewbacca carried with him the name of an ancient Wookiee hero, the great Bacca, first of the great chieftains of Kashyyyk, and the creator of a sword that denoted leadership among the Wookiees. This name placed Chewbacca in a noble lineage, which was further supported by his role in the Battle of Kashyyyk during the Clone Wars and during the Galactic Civil War.

Chewbacca was a wise, sophisticated being of great strength and loyalty. As technologically savvy as the brightest Academy graduate, he was also a skilled mechanic. Chewbacca, like many Wookiees, was able to understand Basic, but he could not speak it due to his species's vocal structure. He instead spoke Shyriiwook, the main Wookiee language, composed largely of growls and grunts, to his non-Wookiee companions who typically replied in Basic.

Buddhafish was never even attacked and managed to survive to the endgame, helping the Star Wars Town come ever so close to what would have been a stunning comeback victory.

Camikaze (Obi-Wan Kenobi / Emperor Palpatine):

I was initially worried about making sure the bad guys had cover roles with abilities that they could plausibly have results for, but this might have had the side effect of raising eyebrows when Obi-Wan Kenobi has only a simply Scan I the entire game. Camikaze gave a valiant effort, and went pretty much all-in balls-to-the-wall with ATPG Night 3. As these things always go, despite the fact that the Star Wars Cult was designed to stay in the shadows and slowly grow, while the LOTR Cult was designed to win through sheer power and more nightkills... the opposite happened in the game. :crazyeye:

choxorn (Galadriel):

The single most important role for the LOTR Town. His early successes at making a core network of incorruptible LOTR townies (and one serial killer) crippled the LOTR Cult, forcing them to grow at a slower pace by denying them recruits in the crucial early game. Eventually choxorn tried to make the serial killer incorruptible, died, and the network imploded. But his successes early on were hug for his team in the long run.

Darth Feather (Elrond):

The LOTR equivalent of Yoda. Because Darth Feather and BL both (perhaps rightly) judged level 3 scans to be more useful than the base level 4 scan, it ultimately prevented them from progressing to Scan IV, Level 2 (scan to see if a player has been converted or not) and Scan V, which gave access to all lower scans and let you use multiple scans (with limitations). He survived to the end of the game and beyond.

R2-D2, pronounced Artoo-Deetoo and often referred to as Artoo, was an R2-series astromech droid manufactured by Industrial Automaton prior to 32 BBY. Resourceful and spunky, the droid developed an adventurous personality during his many decades of operation. Inside of his cylindrical frame were many arms, sensors, and other tools that could be extended to fulfill various needs, such as slicing computers, extinguishing fires, projecting holograms, repairing starships, and flying. Along with his counterpart, the protocol droid C-3PO, R2-D2 constantly found himself directly involved in pivotal moments of galactic history. His bravery, coupled with his many gadgets, played large roles in saving the galaxy time and time again. Like other astromech droids, R2-D2 could walk on two legs or use a third leg to roll across the ground.

dcmort never used his ability to the same effect as BSmith, but this was partly my fault - I kept screwing up and forgetting to PM him the new abilities. Even so, he ended the game with a decent amount of unused abilities from Copycat.

Legolas is an Elf who was part of the Fellowship of the Ring in the Third Age. He is the son of the Elvenking Thranduil of Mirkwood, a Prince of the Woodland Realm (Mirkwood), a messenger, and a master bowman. With his keen eyesight, sensitive hearing, and excellent bowmanship, Legolas is a valuable resource to the other eight of the Fellowship. His age was never stated by Tolkien but was estimated by some to be between 500 and 3000 years old, which is not uncommon for Elves. Legolas became great friends with the dwarf Gimli, despite their long held differences, who was also a member of the Fellowship.

Double A did a superb job as Legolas. He protected spaceman and Arakhor from death, who both went on to survive until the endgame. That's a huge swing even before you factor in his quality networking and injuring the lone Darth Vader, preventing him from crucial night actions. The nights he spent protecting Visorslash don't even matter, because he helped his team so much otherwise.

Han Solo was a Human smuggler from the manufacturing planet Corellia who achieved galactic fame as a member of the Rebel Alliance and later the New Republic. Born on Corellia, he was orphaned at an early age and taken by the pirate Garris Shrike to serve on his crew. He was treated cruelly, and served Shrike for many years before escaping while in his teens. Solo became a smuggler, and fell in love with Bria Tharen, though she left him due to her duties to the Rebel Alliance. Solo then entered the Imperial Academy at Carida, serving with distinction. He was kicked out, however, when he stopped an Imperial officer from beating a Wookiee named Chewbacca with a neuronic whip for resisting capture. In gratitude, the Wookiee swore a life debt to Solo, protecting him with his life. He became a smuggler once again, with Chewbacca at his side. Piloting the upgraded and customized Millennium Falcon, which he won in a game of Sabacc against Lando Calrissian, his future ally, he became known as one of the best smugglers in the galaxy.

Dumanios died early, and is a wonderful microcosm of how badly the Star Wars Town fell behind in the early game. Dumanios, a Star Wars townie, was killed by the Star Wars Town vigilante, who was in turn injured because of Dumanios' ability. Ouch. It's a wonder they came so close to winning - I think some of that was due to help from the Star Wars Cult, who ended up dying off before their town counterpart anyways.

The Mouth of Sauron was the ambassador of Sauron and Messenger of Barad-dur in Middle-earth throughout the majority of the Third Age. His true name has been forgotten even by himself.

Frozen was the only cross-universe conversion in the game, and it payed off big. He was a huge part of the LOTR Cult's surge, until they were quickly and suddenly all killed off. Funny how both cults ended up dying in bunches, with the exception of Stuck in Pi. The LOTR Cult barely came in last place, and before Takhisis' lynch looked poised to fully recover from their early stumble out of the gate. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. I'd like to point out, one more time, how crazy it was that the Star Wars Town almost won, considering the crazy amount of people they lost to conversion.

Gone 3 the Celt (Padme Amidala):

Padmé Naberrie of Naboo (Publicly known by her regal name, Padmé Amidala, also known as Her Royal Highness, Queen Amidala of Naboo, from 33 BBY to 25 BBY, and as Her Excellency, Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo, from 25 BBY until her death) was the younger daughter of Ruwee and Jobal Naberrie, and the sister of Sola Naberrie. Later in her life, Amidala became the secret wife of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and the mother of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa Solo, two of the most important figures in Galactic history. She was also the grandmother of Jaina, Jacen and Anakin Solo, as well as Ben Skywalker. This relationship made her great-grandmother of Allana Solo, Jacen Solo's daughter, and an ancestor of Nat, Kol Cade Skywalker, and Ania Solo.

Luke Skywalker was a legendary war hero and Jedi who helped defeat the Galactic Empire in the Galactic Civil War and helped found the New Republic, as well as the New Jedi Order.

Born in 19 BBY as the son of the fallen Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and the Queen and Senator of Naboo, Padmé Amidala, Luke was raised on Tatooine and hidden from Emperor Palpatine and his father, who had become Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith. In 0 BBY, Skywalker's life changed forever. A chance purchase of two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO, led to him to receive training in the ways of the Force from Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and to meet Han Solo, and Princess Leia Organa, who was, unbeknownst to him, his twin sister. Skywalker then destroyed the first Death Star and joined the Rebel Alliance.

Over the next few years, he fought in many of the most important battles of the Galactic Civil War, helping to found Rogue Squadron and fighting Imperial forces across the galaxy. In 3 ABY, Skywalker received Jedi training from Yoda, and learned from Vader that the Sith Lord was his father. One year later, he fought in the Battle of Endor, and succeeded in turning his father back to the light. Thanks to Skywalker, Palpatine was killed, and the Empire was dealt a crippling blow. One year later, the New Republic was formed.

Star Wars Town never really had a decent network going, which is part of the reason that Jarrema wasn't nearly as successful with his protections as Double A. Jarrema survived through the whole game, which is an accomplishment in itself, especially in the Star Wars Town.

Saruman the White

Saruman the White was an Istari, or wizard, who lived in Middle-earth during the Third Age and was an antagonist in the events of the War of the Ring and The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. He was the chief of the wizards in his time, and dwelt in the fortress of Orthanc in Isengard Vale. The Istari were five wizards who were sent to Middle-earth to combat the growing power of Sauron, the Dark Lord, and thus Saruman studied in depth the arts of Sauron. However, he soon became enamoured of Sauron's devices - especially The One Ring - and turned traitor to his mission and sought power for himself by attempting to find the One Ring. He initially advocated an alliance with Sauron, but he soon betrayed Sauron as well, and it was revealed that his ultimate goal is to supplant Sauron and rule Middle-earth. His designs went astray however, and following the Battle of the Hornburg and the Battle of Isengard, his power was overthrown.

Saruman - before his decline and fall - was the chief of both the wizards and of the White Council (a council consisting of all those opposed to Sauron). His knowledge and skill, especially of Sauron's devices, was said to be great (in fact, the name "Saruman" means "man of skill"). However, his corruption came about due to his deep study of the One Ring and Sauron's other mystical possessions, and his growing ambition and desire for power led to his downfall. He is one of the few characters in Middle-earth who is rather "grey", serving neither the forces of good nor the forces of evil - he betrays both sides and ultimately works for his own ends.

JHT was a little mad when he was first converted, since he had just told the network he thought Takhisis was Sauron... and then found out his new teammate was Takhisis, Sauron. He was also the lone replacement, although he never went even remotely inactive - in fact, he sent in orders along with his replacement request. As spaceman noted after the game, this game was kinda crazy in that it had no one inactive enough to be WOGed or replaced.

Kennigit (Admiral Ackbar):

Gial Ackbar was a male Mon Calamari who became the foremost military commander of the Alliance to Restore the Republic and its successor government the New Republic. During the Clone Wars, he was in charge of the Mon Calamari Guard and fought in the battle that had secured Prince Lee-Char's way to the throne as King of Dac. Having previously been an Imperial slave to Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, he was freed by Captain Juno Eclipse and was recruited to join the Rebellion. Later, he fought alongside Renegade Squadron and was once captured by bounty hunter Boba Fett. During the Battle of Endor, later revealed to be a trap for him and the Alliance, he led Alliance naval forces against the Death Star II. He held the distinction of having been the Supreme Commander of the New Republic Defense Force for nearly two decades and defeating two Imperial Grand Admirals, Osvald Teshik and Peccati Syn, along with numerous other threats. He wrote the manual for the New Republic Fleet Academy, titled Fleet Tactics and Combat Methodology.

For some bizarre reason, Kennigit thought he wasn't very important. On the contrary, the extremely early death of Kennigit was a huge blow to his team, which lost significantly more members to conversion than the LOTR Town, and more quickly. The Star Wars Town was lucky enough to defy all odds and come so incredibly close to victory, but I've already covered that enough.

KingMorgan (Merry):

I felt bad for KingMorgan, with nothing but a mason ability, and his masonic partner was off doing a bunch of stuff with the town network. The idea, for Cult and Town, was that LOTR had a few really powerful roles and a few weak roles, while Star Wars was more evenly spread out. This resulted in some players, like KingMorgan and topsecret, being nothing but masons.

Anakin Skywalker was a Force-sensitive Human male who served the Galactic Republic as a Jedi Knight and later served the Galactic Empire as the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Born to the slave Shmi Skywalker in 41.9 BBY, Anakin was concieved by midi-chlorians, the symbiotic organisms that allowed individuals to touch the Force, and he and his mother were brought to the desert planet of Tatooine to be the slaves of Gardulla the Hutt. They soon ended up as the property of the Toydarian Watto, and Skywalker exhibited exceptional piloting skills and a reputation for being able to build and repair anything even at a young age. In 32 BBY, Skywalker encountered the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Padmé Amidala, and he helped them secure the parts they needed for their starship by winning the Boonta Eve Classic podracing event—only to learn that he had also won his freedom in doing so.

Nintz was really coming into his own by Day 6... when he was killed by a Balrog. Despite the early Dumanios blunder, overall he had a positive effect for his team, killing two LOTR and only one Star Wars town.

Red_Spy (Eomer):

The "real" LOTR Town vig could level up to a full killer after injuring a few people, but Red_Spy never sent in night orders, maybe because he figured his ability was not that useful in the early stages of the game. He died too soon, in any case.

robbiecon (Jabba the Hutt):

robbiecon died before his ability really became that useful, and would have been a lot more beneficial as a Day ability. He never used it, but I'm not sure that I blame him - the first few nights, it's not as if there was any great targets.

In a hilarious twist of fate, Sam found the ring on Sauron's finger the night Sauron converted him into a loyal minion. Accordingly, Gollum, obsessed with the One Ring, transformed into none other than a Ringwraith. There were a couple roles that might have had people saying "huh? That's town?" and Gollum was one of them. He got converted anyways, meaning he had the fantastic cover of an evil creep. On the other hand, his cover ability was easy to fake when he knew Takhisis had the Ring the whole time.

sirtommygunn (Boba Fett):

Boba Fett was a Mandalorian warrior and bounty hunter. He was a clone of the famed Jango Fett, created in 32 BBY as the first of many Fett replicas designed to become part of the Grand Army of the Republic, and was raised as Jango's son. Jango taught Boba much, training him to become a skilled bounty hunter as was his father-figure before him. In 22 BBY, Jango was killed at the Battle of Geonosis, which opened the Clone Wars. Just a boy, Boba was forced to grow up and took to traveling the galaxy. Later, he became a bounty hunter and took assignments from beings such as Jabba the Hutt, and achieved notoriety despite his young age.

A brutal combination of abilities meant that sirtommygunn was the last person you wanted to attack. He was attacked once towards the end of the game, but failed to injure his attacker (whose luck with attacks was terrible). Presumably as revenge for surviving his attack, Stuck in Pi promptly converted sirtommygunn... who died the very next phase. Without that conversion, maybe the Star Wars Town pulls out the victory with a more even War phase.

C-3PO, sometimes spelled See-Threepio and often referred to as Threepio, was a bipedal, humanoid protocol droid designed to interact with organics, programmed primarily for etiquette and protocol. He was fluent in over six million forms of communication, and developed a fussy and worry-prone personality throughout his many decades of operation. After being destroyed and discarded on the planet Tatooine before 32 BBY, C-3PO was rebuilt; his salvaged nature gave him special qualities that distinguished him from similar droid models. Along with his counterpart, the astromech droid R2-D2, C-3PO constantly found himself directly involved in pivotal moments of galactic history, and aided in saving the galaxy on many occasions. C-3PO considered various droids and organics to be friends of his, and was very dedicated to them, as well as to any master that he served.

Came close to squeaking out the Star Wars Cult win, but ultimately was overwhelmed by too many townies that he couldn't convert/kill quickly enough.

Takhisis (Faramir / Sauron):

One of the most timidly played hugely powerful roles ever.

The Ring was never upgraded, Takhisis was extremely reluctant to have his team kill people for some reason, and in the end, LOTR had too much of a slow start with their kills. If the Star Wars Cult was reckless, the LOTR Cult was overcautious.

Super powerful, but struck down because he embedded himself a little too deeply into the LOTR Town network, and was inevitably found out. I don't know why I put Ganondorf in the game as a serial killer. WTH was I thinking? Luckily Visorslash was a really good sport about it and did an excellent job with the role. He probably helped the LOTR Town out a lot, too... other than inadvertently killing its most important role. :mischief:

At some point there was one, but it was really dumb. I think I briefly mentioned this in the first host commentary.

I guess it was supposed to be an homage to the Zelda game this drew inspiration from, but still. Ganondorf shouldn't have been in this game.

That being said, if there's enough interest/demand for a NSP 3, I will need to draw from another universe(s) to create a full cast of compelling characters. It won't be Zelda, though.
