None Shall Pass 3 [Game Thread]

You kind of have to put on a show of cooperation to find mafia in public, but the vig can take out the other town in secret without having to answer or apologize for it. At least vigging people in your own universe is incredibly risky, because there's a high chance of killing your own team, so it's probably best for the vig to focus on the opposite universe. The opposing town needs to be eliminated somehow, and the vigilante is the easiest way to do so.

This is what I disagree with I guess. This is a 4 sided game yet people still bring over their regular mafia ideas. As long as you're not lynching a member of your team, there's nothing to apologise for or explain as far as I'm concerned.

Vigging blind does suck though since there's a big chance of hitting your own team like I did. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time these days to attempt serious networking which probably hurt my team quite abit.

I agree with you, but most people in the game are going to expect the other town to play nice. See the reaction to Visor pushing the Al lynch on the last day. Because of pressures exerted by other players, actively lynching the other town isn't really feasible, so you hand it off to the vig and focus on mafia publicly.

I understand that but I think in Visor's situation it has as much to do with the fact that SW town had full control at that point. It does feel like the town v mafia mentality got transferred over to lynches which hurt the mafia teams quite abit.

I think it also hurt LOTR Town, because they didn't really try to catch up in numbers to SW Town.

I'm not sure why they didn't. Did they forget that they were going to lose?

Not block Visorslash, for one. :)

When you lose 3 members on night 1 and then your vig kills a few more before dying, I think the numbers were just skewed too much too quickly to really catch up. It'd pretty much have required making a deal with the mafia very early for lotr town to have any chance.

I sort of lead the lynch against Martin Luther, which bummed me off :(

I'm not great at mafia strats, by the way

Which I was always willing to do.

I like that visors hard-line anti Mafia backfired on him.

I asked him if he was converted, if he had provided an affirmative answer I would have helped him.

He wasn't converted until N4, so you may well have asked him too soon.

It might be due to inexperience but I wasn't thinking Arakhor's role claim by itself was bad. I thought about all of the passive things that I could. I have no idea how mine could have been blocked and the other town role I thought as a possibility for passives was surviving a lynch of nk or something. For mafia, I thought of the role that scans as innocent, beast from ww, or maybe survives a lynch or nk. I also thought it was something that could be proven, which it seems it wasn't really.

At that point though, Visor had been pretty clearly to me hunting mafias so it just seemed too weird that he was declaring a pro mafia strat while town when LotR was so diminished and I didn't know the mafia wouldn't just whittle down SW town while the two towns fought.

That said, it didn't much feel like a four faction game from my perspective and maybe mechanically tweaking the towns would help encourage that more. It seemed there was a fairly strong network at the end from my perspective.

I was honest with what I said in the game. I seriously had no idea if people would notice their passive powers being knocked out, but obviously I knew more passive powers than I was letting on, not that it helped my case at all. I also didn't do the second "Luke" kill, because Zack made Luke the Mafia killing identity when Visor was recruited, which is why I thought it really awkward to actually claim my real role.

No Frodo Baggins and no Obi-Wan in a Star Wars/LOTR mashup? Strange choices.

Let me explain part of my thinking speciffically:

The LOTR town was not a threat to me by the end. Nor, really, was an SW mafia victory. What WAS a threat was SW mafia converting me and dragging me down with them. So I went after the mafia.

I then dropped the ball at night as I became increasingly unsure of my (correct, as it turns out) interpretation of the game

Before that, I mostly followed the party line of peace, love and scumhunting because

1: Early on I was trying to infiltrate your town by claiming to be King Theoden, so going against you would harm my credibility, while going against SW town would harm my real goals

2: After that, once you had died, I knew that LOTR town was likely doomed, so the SW scum were the greater priority

Bit late in here (busy week), but thanks for the game, Zack. As always, your effort showed.

Should be positively
