Off Topic reorganization

So... is it just a coincidence this happens a few hours before the traditional April 1st forum apocalypse?

Doubt this will change much anyway. A&E and Sci/tech need to be merged back into OT to improve the quality and diversity of threads here. Just telling people "Be lighthearted and fun!" won't result in anything.
We'll talk about rolling back other forums into the two OTs later. We're amenable to this, subject to no strong objections fr the current denizens.

For now, let's see how this goes first.

Can you guys set up a view that lists all the threads from both OTs together, so that people who treat them the same don't have to open multiple subforums every time?
No.

The idea is to foster different styles of posting and moderation (and community) for each OT forum. Better to keep them strictly separated.

We'll talk about rolling other forums back into them later, so in the long run there shld be fewer Collosseum subforums.

They didn't mention it but OT Light will have no PC. Because it'll essentially be the spammier forum, and given how important postcount is to some people, this will hopefully keep them fr going on non-disruptive spamming sprees (and then forcing us to do something). I don't think we need people to spam every OT Light thread with drivel to inflate their PC numbers.

And yeah there'll also be no TP rule in OT Light, so there.

Yeah, I definitely stand behind this principle.

Different styles of moderation too, I might add. ;)
At the end of the day, we don't want to do moderating work (it's a damn pain in the there), and you don't want to get moderated. Hopefully there'll provide some place closer to meet the needs of both sides.

Basically we're not going to care too much what goes on in OT Light, so long as you don't abuse it (with crap like racism, hatred speech, direct open flaming, PDMA, porn, whatever).

Who are these people that supposedly care so much about post count that they go on spamming sprees to inflate it? Where are they hiding?

Totally in for this! I can now spam away to my heart's content!

(the little Cheezy in me says that he approves of revolutions, no matter what for)

I shld also mention there shld be no outright spamming in OT Light. Like numbers posts and the like.

The threads shld remain interesting and perusable, if more chatty and conversational than we usually allow for in normal OT.

I guess the point is more that if we enable PC, we disallow spam. If we disable PC, we allow spam. People would seem to like a place to be able to be more spammy, so it makes sense for that area not to have PC enabled. People don't necessarily go on posting sprees simply for the sake of PC (though some people might), but some people do post largely for the PC, or would use a spammy forum as an opportunity to post largely for the PC. It's okay to post for the PC if your post is still a positive contribution (why would it matter why you post if your post is still useful to a thread?), but by us not really caring about spam, we're not really caring about whether or not your post is a positive contribution, which would open up for people to post a whole bunch of non-contributory posts just for the PC. As much as we allowing spam in the new forum, we don't want it to turn into a complete spamfest, and enabling PC encourages that.

To expand on this: you can't make an "everyone post a smiley" thread, but you can get pretty chatty and bring out the one-liners to your heart's content. Just so long as your spam isn't disruptive or annoying.

Is there a "My First OT" for me to join?

Hoping this is an April Fool's, OT doesn't need another split. Less forums means busier forums!
I mentioned this already, but later on once the two new OTs are more firmly in place, we'll talk about rolling back the other forums into them.

H&J is almost certain to go into OT Light, and Science back into OT Discussions. Not sure about the rest; we'll need to talk about it with the people who post there now. Later. For now, we settle this first.

I told you you guys already figured it out! Sheesh.

BTW, if things go the way I want in the new serious OT, there will probably not be very many infractions handled out. Just outright bans and/or deletions.

Of course we're serious. The timing is merely coincidental.

Since when have you seen me make such a joke concerning serious forum issues?

Last year? And the year with the Apolyton merger?

I think OT-Light needs a better name, anyone not familiar with the reason isn't going to automatically know. Perhaps something like the Tavern but more civ specific. Of coruse this could be an April Fools joke, but if so it would be an extremely bad one, I think the CFC Staff is more than capable of ocming up with something decently funny.

May I ask what alcoholic beverage you are consuming?

A major forum announcement on March 31 for the 5th or 6th year in a row? This seems legit.

Chances are, we're announcing this at this time as sort of a reverse April's fools. Everyone thinks it is one, and then it's not.

After all, we've already done so many that HAVE been April's fools jokes, doing one that isn't while everyone thinks it is, is probably the better option at this point.

That, and it would be pretty foolish of us to put out something that you guys actually like and then go back on it. ;)
