Official Civ4 S&T Off-Topic Thread

Dawn of Russians died, RT has left for a while already, mrrandomplayer has stopped making his stories, baseballpie left us, Sanguiv also left us and this culminated on the Caliphate in this disarray state we are living now.

Even Caterpillar is busy and isn't being able to update his stories so oftenly.

Only Noob and adhiraj still keep doing what they've always been doing and some others (like clanky4, Noyyau, Civ'ed, phillip1882) have done an update here and there.

These are silent times indeed. I hope we can put the Caliphate back on track asap. Jack said he may be updating the story this weekend still, let's hope for that.

BTW, isn't anyone here interested in joining the Democratic Caliphate? :D
We have 72 virgins waiting for good counselors on the Shura. :groucho:

The Ummah need you! :p

I'm gonna be honest I never really understood how the Democratic Caliphate worked. I think that each 'participant' has 'control' over a city where they choose its build orders while the author makes all the major gameplay decisions. It just seems to have gotten more complicated with time.

Kinda. If you're a provincial counselor, you would have control over a region, usually consisting of more than one city, and you would give build orders, RP orders, as well as control your own private army and navy. If you're an adviser, you would have control over a specific area such as diplomacy or telling what to do in regards to stability. The diplomacy one has been integrated into the Caliphal role due to being inefficient. Spirictum can tell you more about the adviser roles. Finally, the last possible role is the Ulema which is basically our Judicial Branch. They are a new position which mediates and decides on conflicts and are the only ones who can become Caliph. We all vote on what to do in regards to civics and technology.

Note - This is a summary of job descriptions thus I likely missed a few things.

@clanky4

DKVM is right, although we didn't yet officialize that the way to appoint new caliphs is by election from the Ulema, this is still being debated.

Currently we have Ulema position available and that's all, but it's pretty normal to new provinces (or old ones) to become available now and then (Matthias I, Noob and Caterpillar all got to become provincial counselors not long ago). We also don't have a Caliph, and it's being decided how we will make one.

The system of the game is simple: Each counselor gives his policies on the councils, and each council happens in intervals of 20 gameturns. The gameplayer (currently me) follows the Council's policies on the term and may stop the gameflow for important decisions that need the approval of the Council. Only the Ulema don't have to give policies, but they should act when summoned (solving disputes) or when they think it's necessary (vetoing a policy).

Then the storyteller (currently jackelgull, who's also our Spy Master) gets the screenshots and makes the story update.

And the cycle repeats itself, until we win or lose. And honestly, we will win, no matter which form of victory we choose (from those that are still available of course), we won't lose this game. It's being a completely new experience to me (I love to think a lot on the games I play), a lot more detailed and well analyzed, much better then the games I've played before, even though I like to play on Deity.

Also the roleplaying has been increasing more and more, which is also great to an IAAR. The more people we get, the more interesting this can become.

I think the reason why things are so quiet right now is because it's near midterms for quite a few people (myself included).

I'm going to update Mexico and Persia over the next two days. I have it all planned it all out :D Sorry, I have been super busy. Also, soccer starts again tomorrow! :D

Can someone PM or VM me if a good IAAR or Realpolitik came that you can vote and is political and not fiction? Cause i plan to leave here till a good story comes or one of the old ones come.

Why would you leave? What would you gain?

TIME! The most important thing in life.

Huh, I always thought that being alive was the most important thing in life.

TIME! The most important thing in life.

What would you do with it? And what about the stuff that relies on you to be here? Is that a factor?

*sigh* I only have one beyond the sword file but DoC doesn't work when i put it in the MODS folder there.

Are you in "My Computer" and then going into your c drive? It won't be in all caps.
My computer or my pc or whatever then c drive then Firaxis then Sid meiers civ 4 then BTS then mods. Now you paste the mod

I could try to finish a game an EU4, study and ETC. And i'm sure that you won't notice i'm gone. I was kinda thinking to leave permanently.
