Oh, the weather outside is...

It's cool that you have records going back to 1706. In the U.S. state and national records only go back to 1895, but some cities have records going back as far as 1871.
It will probably only be the third warmest May on record in Oklahoma City, where records go back to 11/1890.

Well... the new May record is there

yes.. a long way back
Kind of a coincidence because this guy Cruquis that started it was ahead of his time. He was a scientist, also member of the British Royal Society, educated as water engineer and cartographer.
He measured temperature, pressure, moisture and rain, with as goal to be able to predict sealevel, heavy storms and heavy rainfall that always threaten our country.
It was done by private initiative and funding until 1854, when it became finally a state funded institution under heavy pressure of the scientist Buys-Ballot (the guy that related pressure with wind).

10:00 Main road is flooded. Our town is isolated.

The good news is that yesterday, we bought $400 worth of groceries.
Also, the improved Inca-designed drainage system we put in last year is working wonderfully. No lakes anywhere.

Going for 40° tomorrow. the first time this year. I have been out in 50°, but that was Asia. 40° is bad enough.

J

PS for US residents, that's 104°

It was supposed to sunny and 90 today. Instead we go cold, wind and even actual rain. Enough to get the ground wet and create puddles on some streets.

Actually it was the second warmest May on record, behind only 1962.

CNN Weather just scared me. :run: It flashed on a big storm just east of us, and storms here tend to move west! I pounced on the PAGASA website.

It shows a tropical depression moving north :whew:. Tomorrow morning, it will move northeast, away from us. So we're okay...a little more rain, a little more wind than usual.

Edit: 3 1/2 hours later; noon: Skies are clear, winds are yowling, and the sea is angry.

Had a thin blanket of June snow this morning. Move along, nothing to see.

Super common but we act equally surprised every year.
By midday it had all melted.

I wouldn't have minded some snow today. It was too hot for me. I actually bought a box of Mr. Freeze. I haven't had those in years.

I got a sunburn today even though staying in the shadow as much as possible and using sunscreen - it is only very mild but it annoys me so much as i deliberately tried to prevent this to happen after having large skale 3rd degree burns two years ago.

Ouch. I actually had the opposite problem last year, didn't get a tan at the beach because I slathered on so much sunscreen.

Went camping this past week, and couldn't have asked for better weather (although my dog and I had 41 confirmed deerfly kills on Sunday, so there was that). Here are some pics:

On our way upriver to some friends we passed 5 Falls Dam - too pretty not to stop for a pic:

Next day. Starting to look a little scruffy after 5 days of camping:

June weather has been miserable in my neck of the woods. Cold and rainy.

The last week has been cold and rainy.
Which is AWESOME !!!
Typical summer weather is OK, but early March to mid June was just too hot. A break from it is very welcome.

101 today, light wind, sunny. Pretty typical for June.

We got a strong thunderstorm last night. Luckily it hasn't been too hot or humid at all this summer. It'll get up around 90F/32C, but it's a relatively dry heat (not bone dry, but dewpoints around 60F/16C), so I don't think it's that bad. It was more humid today but cooler.
