It's cool that you have records going back to 1706. In the U.S. state and national records only go back to 1895, but some cities have records going back as far as 1871.
It will probably only be the third warmest May on record in Oklahoma City, where records go back to 11/1890.

Kind of a coincidence because this guy Cruquis that started it was ahead of his time. He was a scientist, also member of the British Royal Society, educated as water engineer and cartographer.
He measured temperature, pressure, moisture and rain, with as goal to be able to predict sealevel, heavy storms and heavy rainfall that always threaten our country.
It was done by private initiative and funding until 1854, when it became finally a state funded institution under heavy pressure of the scientist Buys-Ballot (the guy that related pressure with wind).
