Oh, the weather outside is...

We had a brief break in the weather, but this week we are back to 30-35C temps. What a nice way to start October. :(

This just in, from CBC: Record snowfall wallops Calgary in 1st storm of season
As the article mentions, Edmonton, Red Deer, and some other municipalities are sending help. I haven't been in Calgary more than a few times during the winter (once was during a chinook), but when it snows there, it snows.

From the photo, it looks like one of the pandas in the zoo is having fun.

Turns out, I'm on the edge of our latest typhoon.

Well, it's stopped snowing and there are blue skies today. The snow will take awhile to melt, though.

The snowflakes were huge just awhile ago.

Still, it's actually not that cold, just -5C. The Weather Network is forecasting -15C tomorrow, so I might have to consider turning the thermostat on.

Lol -5C is pretty dang cold for the first week of October IMO. I've never seen it get that cold until mid-November.

It's not a problem if it's just a temporary cold snap, although by the end of October it's not unusual anymore to get snow on Halloween. I remember we had one heckuva blizzard one year and there I was, trying to give directions to a taxi driver to find the address of someone I was going to visit and I'd only been there once, in the daytime when it was not storming.

It's -7C right now, and forecast to be -9C tomorrow.

Would be nice with a bit of sun this autumn instead of just nonstop rain and slush.

We've got nicer weather here in DC than we've had in some time, but it's still summery-humid, not crisp at all.

Well, it's quite a bit warmer than expected today - sunny and -1C. The snow has been melting, although it's not gone completely.

Yikes! It was 35C here in Monday, but since then highs have been around 29, 30. Still very annoying, I'm completely sick of humidity at this point.

Snow?!? Heavens to mergatroid:confused: It's October!
I've been mentioning snow since August, when it snowed in Canmore (which is in the mountains and is only 2.5 hours from here). We've had three snowfalls here in Red Deer already since then. A few days ago I looked out the window and would have sworn it was early December.

Snow in the mountains is understandable pretty much anytime of year. I hadn't looked up the altitude in Red Deer.
According to Wikipedia, it's 855 m (2,805 ft).

If you're interested in reading up about Canmore, here is the Wikipedia page.

Canmore was one of the regular stops when I went to British Columbia with my grandparents every summer. We'd stop at the Three Sisters Campground for lunch, and to let the dog out (scroll down to see a photo of the Three Sisters - one of the most iconic mountains in Canada, and my grandmother's favorite subject for the paintings she did).

Second morning in a row with beautiful sunshine. :cooool: And I notice the waves are coming from the southeast, not the southwest. Could we be transitioning from the rainy season to the hot season? :w00t:

The views from those towns that sit at the base of the Rockies are just unbelievable. I've seen some firsthand in Colorado, and Utah... If that's what kind of area you like you should definitely think about visiting Colorado.

That "Big Head" thing is creepy... I was going to ask you who or what it was supposed to represent until I just read the article to find out it was a reference to the name of the town  that would've been embarrassing.

It was also interesting to read that it manages to be the 9th largest town with about 12,000 people. The 9th largest town in my tiny State of Massachusetts has a population of over 90,000. My hometown in Connecticut is considered a "small town" with about 20,000 population.

Cold with clouds. High in the 60s. Terrible.

colder weather is on the way, what do you cold warriors wear for warmth?

I'm looking at merino wool base layers now and could use recommendations
