Oh, the weather outside is...

Anyway, at 57 degrees it's a bit chilly. Got the window open for ventilation, but my computer outputs enough heat to compensate for the loss.
It got down to the mid 60's here which cooled off the house but then cooking dinner pushed it back up to 77.

We got a week of nice weather while I was out of town and starting tomorrow it's climbing back into the 80's. But at least it's only the low/mid 80's and not the 90's and allegedly this will be the last hoorah of warm weather.

Typhoon Quinto to our west, headed west towards Vietnam. Typhoon Koppu to our northeast, headed northwest towards Manila. We're getting lashed by the outer arms of both. The wind is howling but we haven't lost power.

It's midnight now. Our wind is down to a prolonged sigh. We still have power, but the sea is quite grumpy..

Change in the weather tonight. From warmer than seasonal to colder and the forecast is for 6" of snow tonight. I don't believe we'll get more than 1 or 2.

We might be getting some freezing rain out of that event, but we'd be on the southeast edge of the ice, so it's hard to tell.

Cold, but no snow yet.

Well, snowing has begun. The ground is warm so not much sticking yet, but the snowfall is pretty dense and the flakes small.

Forest fire broke out about 3 miles from me. The edge of the evacuation zone is 1.5 miles out. We have our go bags packed and are ready to bug out. I ran up to Wal Mart to buy an air filter because the house smells like a BBQ pit.

It was a gorgeous, breezy morning and then the sky turned orange and I could see smoke clouds wafting over my roof

Hobbs, just because your town is on fire and you are getting prepared to flee, that is no reason to break with CFC protocol and post about your shopping in the weather thread. You know full well that going to WalMart to get stuff belongs in the shopping thread. Sheesh man. That terrible faux pas makes it hard for me to like your post....

Good luck though. :)

:( hope it turns out ok

Approximately where in L.A, are you? I have friends scattered all over the county, and I wish to ascertain which ones I need to worry about.
Central OC

The evacuation zone kept marching toward us all day yesterday but we stayed just on the other side of it. It advanced to an area where I walk my dog, which is pretty scary. We duct taped the windows as the smell got unbearable and retreated to the bedroom where the air purifier could keep up.

The fire is 0 percent contained and over 90k people were evacuated yesterday. We are ready to go on a moment's notice.

Out front and out back this morning.

Geez, we have another typhoon coming. :wallbash: Rolly is developing east of us and a little more north than usual. It's predicted to head straight west, which they never do, and will hit south of Manila on 11/2.

We'll get some rain down here.

Snow is gone, but it's cold.

The fire is not fully contained but it's moved deeper into the mountains rather than into town so the evacuation orders have all been lifted. I got to see ash fall from the sky like snow, so I guess I can cross that off my bucket list. The ash did not look how I expected it to look - there were gray fluffy-snow like flakes like I expected but also little slivers of half-burnt vegetation and extinguished embers. We're all pretty lucky this stuff didn't land and start more fires.

The air quality is trash an probably will be for another few weeks or even a month. I saw satellite images of the fire and they pointed out that other areas that look like smoke in the image are actually just ash plumes from older, fully-extinguished fires that had been kicked up by the wind.
