If you were to analyze how these people act in real life versus their personna which is a figment of the imagination used as part of their franchise ie a cultivated image, then you would likely find a very screwed up narcissist who has a history of marrying multiple times and burning bridges and even being like a sociopath when they don't get their way.

No thanks. That is not an ideal candidate who must deal with heads of state and a thousand paper cuts of irritation.

The first quality of a candidate is are they calm?
The second quality is do they listen?
The third quality is do they actually have new practical ideas to create jobs?

Calm was what I liked about Obama

I don't know. Call me a traditionalist, but I feel we should create a profession for people who make a career out of engaging in politics.

A politicsman. Nah, that's sexist. A policy crafter. Something like that but more catchy. A politicioner.

That's a demagogue. And the anti-democratic parties won way back then in making the word mean something bad. It helped that many political leaders, elected or not, end their careers in disaster.

Why not go one step further and elect....

Depends on what policies she supports, or hopefully she puts some policies together because that last election was the most policy-free election ever.

And no doubt some moron in real life will say either Chelsea Clinton or Ivanka Trump should run at some point based on blood.
It's already happened. Back when people were boycotting stores that sold Ivanka Trump's clothing line, there were some people commenting on CBC.ca, wailing about how mean people were to "the President's child" - how dare they pick on his CHILD, politicians' families were supposed to be off-limits. These are the same people who vilified the Prime Minister's mother, his wife, and the fact that they hired a nanny to help with their 3 kids, and also the one who kept referring to Princess Charlotte as a "parasite" when she was less than a week old.

My view is that Ivanka Trump may be her father's daughter, but she is NOT a child. And when these twits started saying she should run for president, their answer when I asked them to list her qualifications was, "Well, she's tall and beautiful."

I guess in the celebrity-obsessed mindset, "tall and beautiful" is all that's necessary to run a country. Of course they're the same people who have a problem with Justin Trudeau being tall and handsome, but I've given up expecting common sense from right-wing voters, particularly those who post on CBC.ca.

Good, it's you guys turn to deal with massive illegal immigration. We'll see if you change your turn after 20 million of them enter your country.
There's a difference between Mexicans illegally crossing into the U.S. and the people Trump doesn't like illegally crossing into Canada. We're taking in your country's rejects, or at least the ones who actually qualify for asylum.

We can't fit 20 million extra people here unless they go live up north in the tundra or in the other low-population regions. They may be willing to live a dozen to an apartment (one of the Syrian families we took in had 11 people), but there are laws and safety regulations that prohibit it. A few months ago there was a family here consisting of 4 adults and at least 2 kids, and they were told that they could not all live in the same 2-bedroom apartment. They had to take 2 separate suites.

The media gives trump a free pass? hahahhaha trump farts and the media reports about how it makes him unfit for president. There were articles about how his diet coke consumption could possibly make him an unfit president. You've got to be joking. This is the most critical I've ever seen the media of a president. I'll give you most of it is warranted.

As a candidate Trump did get a free pass. They spent 100 times the amount of effort on the nothing story of Hillary's email server than they gave Trump negative coverage for everything combined.

Now granted that has changed since he took office. But he brings that on himself.

Physical appearance ie aesthetics factors strongly in establishing worth. It is a stupid idea. Everyone knows it is a stupid idea but they succumb to it.

The American People despise career politicians. They want a person who actually did gruntwork and sweat and had to work for a living.

But, they elected someone who was given everything he had from his parents, and when called upon to work was an utter failure in every regard.

I think people just want someone who will tell them what they want to hear.

Oprah's got a problem - some guy named Seal is accusing her of knowing about Weinstein
Yes..I thought it was brave that he challenged her due to her longstanding support and friendship with that toad.

He will pay for it. While the actresses are mostly shielded, some are not and even were not invited to participate at the Golden Globes..and these were former known victims. Already there is talk that Weinstein has been penalized too much by some in Hollywood as if preparing a route back from disgrace.

It is not a new phenomena that the People want easy answers.

I wonder if Oprah will campaign on literally telling everyone how she's going to write up legal documents  since last time we had a policy-free campaign from Hillary and Trump (McGuire)

Wow. I must have dimension-hopped without noticing because that's not how it happened in my universe.

You must have missed this now-infamous gem, published a week before the election on thin sourcing that has since been discovered to be basically outright lies. At the time this was published, we have since learned, the FBI had multiple sources which already confirmed links between Trump campaign people and the Russian government. But it went to print anyways.

Investigating Donald Trump, F.B.I. Sees No Clear Link to Russia

Just have to replace the "DEMOCRATS" with something less all-encompassing. Maybe "Stupid people".

To be fair, since the US election is basically a popularity contest with regard to the candidate, since the issues take a very back seat to the meatbag that is spouting them, the proverb: a nation gets the leader it deserves (in case of democracy anyway) is very apt here.

You want a: "who wants to be a president" game show? Expect that level of candidates.

One would have thought we’d have learned that media personalities don’t make great presidents with Reagan, but apparently not.
