Wars of Warcraft: Month 21

High Elves Summon Great Phoenix - Months and months of concentration and focus, the elves have finally broken through to the elemental plane of fire to bring forth a firey phoenix. The great flames encasing the beast burnt so hot that the structures to close to it began to melt or catch fire. Elves standing to close to the portal from whence it came were ignited and turned to ash almost instantly, and many cowered in fear of the flames. Wielding the Heart of the Sunwell, the great staff forged for Anasterian Sunstrider, the fearless leader of the high elves was able to calm the beast and control it's great heat. Although it took a few moments for the great mage to arrive due to his presence on the front lines of the ongoing war with the trolls, once word reached his ears of the summonings completion he immediatly teleported himself to the site. The usage of the great staff seemed to take it's toll on both Anasterian and the Phoenix though as moments after the use the phoenix crashed to the ground and Anasterian fell to a knee. Both have spent the rest of the month recouping. The high elves have named the phoenix Lo'rah as the name was heard through the portal before the creature was pulled into Azeroth.
(Quel'thalas: -1 level Anasterian, + Lo'rah level 8 phoenix.)

Quel'thalas Press Amani - In an attempt to force yet another troll tribe out of the north, the elves of Quel'thalas continue their war against the Amani tribe. Even with the absence of their leader, the elves have pushed hard against the trolls who have been observed by both the elves and the wizards of Dalaran. With two scrying spells going on at the same time all seemed lost to the trolls, however the spells didn't detect the traps set in the forest even after the trolls had left those areas and baited their foes into them. Once the traps were sprung the trolls went on the offensive and butchered many elves. However with the zeppelins flying high above and the pressure from the sea the trolls were unable to bring the offensive to their side and have continued to stay on the defensive.
(Amani Tribe: -10 warriors, -12 axe-throwers, 2 berserkers. +1 level all heroes.
Quel'thalas: -30 warriors, -25 rangers, -10 mages. +1 level all heroes involved.)

Vilebranch Flee - Suffering defeat after defeat, Mai'jin has focused all his shamanistic abilities to summon a dense fog and major tidal wave to cover the small troll fleet's escape. Reports back to Stromgarde and Lordaeron have reported that the mist seemed to travel far east then break for the south. They have yet to be spotted by any human fleet, be that Kul Tiras or Lordaeron who have been patrolling the waters, and are suspected to have already made it down past the Modan Highlands. If they have made it so far they have done so with no notice from Fort Stormwind, who did note a strange chill in the air near the end of the month but that could be a number of things.

Wildhammer Claim Hinterlands - With the war all but over, and the fleeing of the trolls, the Wildhammer has claimed the north to the mountains and the east to the coast of the Hinterlands. The ending of the war has brought the nations of the Northern Alliance closer together, and has formed a power bloc in the north. Any enemies of these three nations would be hard pressed to prevail in any war if things don't change soon.
(Wildhammer Clan: +Raventusk Village: +45 Gold, +40 Lumber per turn.)

Northern Alliance Forces Arrive at Grim Batol - Lordaeron, Stromgarde and Wildhammer forces have arrived to fill the great fortress of Grim Batol along with Bronzebeard and Thundermar Clan troops. The mountain fortress of Grim Batol is now filled with over three-hundred soldiers with a combination of warriors, archers, rifleman and kirin tor mages. The mages of Dalaran were the first to arrive thanks to their knowledge of the arcane and their ability to teleport to Grim Batol ahead of the dwarves. They have set magical traps along the path to Grim Batol and around the ancient fortress itself. It will be a great challenge for any force to break through the great walls.

Stromgarde Fortifies - After the months of occupation from the trolls and realization of the nearing Horde, Stromgarde has rebuilt their defenses while adding a few more. The walls have been completely reconstructed and multiple road blocks from the Thandol Span to Stromgarde Keep have been placed upon the roads of Arathi. The design makes it look like Thoras and Danath want to force the orcs north and to the east toward their fort near the base of the mountains. It would be a difficult fight for any attacking force as Stormwind and Stromgarde soldiers have been piling into the fort, as well as the Keep itself, and many blockades have been set around the fort itself.

Fires Errupt in Loch Modan - Freak fires have been started sparadically throughout the Modan area north of Ironforge. Unsure of how these fires have started, some dwarfs have begun to blame Stromgarde in an attempt to cut off the Horde before they could reach the Span, while others have blamed Garona who still has yet to be seen since her dissapearence months ago. The only sure thing is the fires have been intense and spotting all throughout the Wet Lands of northern Modan. Many have already been extinguished, but only by themselves as they burnt to hot for any means the dwarves had to douse them, yet a few still burn through the end of the month toward Grim Batol. The remaining fires seem to be cutting off the Horde's path northward toward the Thandol Span and forcing them toward the east of the Modan Highlands.

Horde Bides Time - Unlike the Horde since it's arrival in Azeroth, it has been very quite. A few raiding parties have been sent out, but have happened upon only emptied cities with all it's resources already pulled back to Ironfroge or Grim Batol. Scouting parties have been sited by dwarven scouts, but they have not engaged in any skirmishes. The fires that have been spotting all over may be a cause for the abrupt halting of the Horde, or the magical traps set by the kirin tor, or just the difficulty of regrouping after the fight at Fort Bazjak. All that is certain is that the spotting fires and the nonexistant aggression by the Horde has spread a great unease throughout the Bronzebeard Clan.

Chom'gar Defects - After just a month of his clan being wiped out the captured ogre Chom'gar has defected to join the Thorium Brotherhood. The ogre is under careful watch night and day, but has been allowed to take guard duties and patrols with large groups armed enough to subdue or even put the beast down should he try anything. So far he has shown Grothmag no sign of trechery, but the seasoned rifleman has the ogre in his crosshairs should he do anything dangerous. If his defection proves true this will be a great addition for the Brotherhood who, over the past half year, was almost completely destroyed.
(Thorium Brotherhood: +Chom'gar level 2 Ogre.)

Old Ways Reemerge - With the absence of the Horde threat looming, the old war between the Thorium Brotherhood and the Dark Iron's has sparked once more. Grothmag and his trusted companion, Snouts, led a charge against the Dark Iron mine in the area. With an ogre on their side, and numbers, the Thorium Brotherhood was able to easily capture the Searing Gorge mine and force the Dark Iron's back into their Blackrock Mountain to keep to the south. No retaliation has been seen as of yet, but it is certain that the Dark Iron's wont take this attack lightly in the near future.
(Dark Iron: -10 warriors. -50 gold per turn.
Thorium Brotherhood: -5 warriors, -2 riflemen. +1 level all heroes. +50 gold per turn.)

Frostwolves Assault Redridge - For the first time since the Brotherhood's emergence the Frostwolf Clan has struck back against the rebels. Led by former leader herself, Draka, a large group of raiders accompanied by catapults and warriors marched on Redridge. The wall was yet to be completed by this point in the month and a battle seemed to almost begin, until the trap set by the kirin tor of Dalaran was sprung. They had softened the ground around the choke point leading toward Redridge and slowed the oncoming attackers long enough for the defensive force to repel them completely. There were losses on both sides, but for now Redridge is still firmly in the grasp of humanity.
(Dalaran: -1 mage.
Redridge Brotherhood: -15 warriors, -5 archers. +1 level Verner Osgood.
Stormwind: -10 warriors, -10 archers, -3 knights. +1 level Marcus Jonathan and Alonsus Foal.
Frostwolf: -20 warriors, -2 spearmen, -5 raiders. +1 level Draka.)

Redridge Brotherhood Sacks Mine - After the defense and completetion of the Redridge Wall earlier in the month, the Brotherhood decided to retaliate against their opposition by striking the same mine they hit the month prior. Again it was an easy sacking as there were little to no resistance against them. Only a few orcs stood watch over the mine itself and none were spared to report back to their capitol. With no word being sent back to the Frostwolves, this mine could easily be under Brotherhood control for quite some time.
(Redridge Brotherhood: -1 warrior.
Frostwolf: -3 warriors.)

Redridge Wall Constructed - With help from their allies of Stormwind, the Redridge Brotherhood has completed the Redridge wall. They have erected the massive wall on the opposite side of the bridge leading towards Elwynn Forest. This wall will greatly slow any orc assault and force them into laying seige and gathering troops and equipment, which will greatly help the small resistance force.

Gurubashi Continue Offensive - After months of war and dissapointment, the trolls of the Gurubashi were able to reclaim the Arena for the empire. However, to their surprise, there were no trolls left to defend the area. This tactic caught the Gurubashi off guard completely after losing a large battle there previously, their enemies seemed to completely abandon their greatest defended spot. Yet this move slowed the Gurubashi force down greatly and has made it possible for the Skullsplitters to be able to avoid the greater Gurubashi force completely this month while regrouping and planning their next move. Small skirmishes have taken place this month, but no large scale battles as of yet.
(Gurubashi: +The Arena (Town), +40 Gold per turn.)

Darkspear Remain Home - Just reclaiming their home lands the previous month, the Darkspear tribe of trolls don't seem very eager to rejoin the war against the Skullsplitters. Instead they have been rebuilding their almost depleted army in hopes of becoming strong enough once again to go on the offensive while keeping a force large enough to retain their home lands. It is unsure if the Gurubashi were aware of their ally in the souths plans of rebuilding and nonaggression, but time will tell if they are supportive of such a move.

Zanzil's Discovery - With what took a great amount of concentration and shamanistic skill, the shaman of the Frostwolf clan and the Gurubashi Empire have discovered that the shaman causing all the troubles that have plagued the Gurubashi was none other then Jammal'an the Prophet. In a move to try and bring back the Atal'ai troll tribe to power, an extremist group devoted to summoning the blood god Hakkar to Azeroth that was destroyed years prior. Jammal'an has proven to be very powerful and more then the small group sent after him could handle as when he realized he was discovered he summoned all his Atal'ai trolls to him, who turned out to not be mind controlled but just seemed that way, and fought their way north to Grand Hamlet successfully. This has taken a large toll on the Gurubashi force, but now they have a target and know where he is.
(Atal'ai Tribe: Emerges, 40 warriors, 20 axe-throwers, 1 berserker, 10 shaman. Jammal'an level 5 shaman.
Gurubashi Tribe: -40 warriors, -20 axe-throwers, -1 berserker, -10 shaman. +1 level Zanzil.)

Diplomatic Pouch

To: Dalaran, Stormwind
From: Redridge Brotherhood

We thank you both for your support this month and ask that you aid us in an offensive soon to come. It may not be this month or the next, but we will be preparing to move against the vile orcs who stole many of our friends lives and homes. We hope we will have both your support when the time comes.

To: Human and Dwarf Nations
From: Wildhammer Clan

We would like to offer the sale of our lumber supplies, much of it we do not need and would like to sell as much of what he was stored so far. The price at the moment will be 50 stacks of lumber for 20 gold.

OOC

@All Players: I would like to apologize, again, for the delay on this update. Sometimes I find it difficult to get motivation to update with such a small group of players, yet I realize how into the game you all are after over a month of nothing you all reply so quickly to my post. With no players controlling any Horde nations it's hard for me to move the NES along without just going completely how things went in Warcraft as I don't want to give any unfair advantages to either side. I have tried to bring in more players to the NES, but don't seem to be able to so if any of you know any NESer's who might be interested in joining I would appreciate you asking them and them joining. Also I have added some more lumbermills throughout the map as I felt they were somewhat lacking, I didn't overload the map and if it turns out that it starts to unbalance the nations I may just remove them, but it is my hope that it will add more options for nations with the extra lumbermills.

@Billsif: The spell you wanted to cast in Redridge didn't have enough mana to move the lake, for something to change the landscape that drastically would require much more mana. However the first part of the spell had plenty of mana to work.

Yeah, been checking on this twice a week. No worries dude, knew you'd be back. :)
I'd invite other players already except I don't know any NESers who don't already play this game. :(

Looks great as usual, and characteristically brutal but realistic casualty figures. I should've just stayed back recruiting, but going on the offensive is more fun!
And I'm so happy those bastards went south... I was fearing a northward evacuation.

Regarding lumber, from my research Quel'Thalas has a big forest. Can I have one or two of those yummy mills? Zero mills seems harsh even with elven conservation policies. On the clerical side I built a fortress at or next to the sunwell depending on feasibility, which hasn't appeared on the map.

And, just curious, did the RNG screw Quel'Thalas over or was it just a dangerous and possibly bad idea to summon a phoenix in WoW? I guess I overestimated elven knowledge of the planes, I can pretty much picture the loyal servants and pampered nobles milling in to watch the ritual finish. ;)

Diplomacy

To: the Northern Alliance
From: Quel'Thalas

Once again we humbly ask for our admittance into your alliance as we wish to see all trolls eradicated from Azeroth, including the Vilebranch who just fled from your shores.

To: Lordaeron
From: Quel'Thalas

We, your allies, have never asked for your sole focus or even major assistance, as we know you have been busy cementing a new alliance in which no effort has been made to include us. We understand that the war in the north seems very under control, but it is merely in a stalemate, and we would be pleased if you would render us any assistance that we may sooner turn our swords to guard the Northern Alliance...

I forgot to add the fort to the map I will do so on the next update, on the note of the mills I placed in the ones I could remember from the actual world of warcraft game that were not already in the game and I don't recall there actually being any mills at all in Quel'thalas. However the Wildhammers are looking to sell lumber if you're interested in buying some. It wasn't a bad idea, but the phoenix was just a little much since it was the first one summoned to Azeroth to my knowledge I believe there haven't been any in the actual lore summoned to Azeroth and the ones summoned were in Draenor/Outland.

To: Quel'thalas
From: The Northern Alliance

We will consider your entry into our alliance, however for the time being we must focus our attention southward toward the oncoming Horde threat.

OOC: Drat, WoW is much more low-magic than I thought. Cool though (I like it as a game design element)!
... huh, well I guess 'no mills' explains why the forest burned so well when the horde overran it. :D
I wonder how many rebels will spawn if I force my people to set up mills...

To: Wildhammer
From: Quel'Thalas
We'll take 500 Lumber for 200 Gold.

To: Northern Alliance
From: Quel'Thalas
We understand. Though if we are accepted we hope Lordaeron might consider making subsidies or even just war loans available to us as it would be extremely helpful. As for us we would be happy to continue contributing wood and now also mana at your request where needed.

Lumber mills cannot be built as an original rule set by EQ. I have contemplated changing the rule, but until I figure out a good cost for the lumber mills or change the amount they bring in I can't see how it would be reasonable to allow lumber mills to be built since they also bring in gold. If I were to make them able to be built then it would be a pretty high cost most likely.

You can keep the rule, but just have a lumber mill or two pop up in Quel'Thalas just like they popped up over time in Stormwind's Modan Highlands territory. I understand not building them, because they give players a specific area to focus campaigns against, if lumber mills could be built, there'd be a lot less strategy involved because you wouldn't have to worry about capturing enemy mills, just building your own when you need them.

I added the one in the Modan Highlands because, from my memory, there was one in the Modan Highlands there.

Fair enough but I was also putting an emphasis in my orders to set up a lumber mill and prospect for gold. I'm sure it would take a few months to design, locate a proper place for, and build a mill so if some emphasizes it in their orders repeatedly over many updates maybe they could get one, if they have none or only one?

Also, welcome BILSIF, and prepare to meet your doom. :)
