Other leaders who didn´t rule nations? suggestions:

I'd agree, neither had a particularly big impact on the broader society
(Technology based on Einstein's science did, but he himself did not)

Policarpa Salavarrieta (aka. La Pola), would be an awesome choice for (Gran) Colombia.

She was a spy during the (Gran) Colombian War of Independence and gather lots of information regarding the military movements of the Spanish Royalist and sent that information to the armies of Simón Bolívar and Santander, allowing them to win the war.

She was later captured and executed by the Spanish Loyalists, just 3 years before the war was over. She rapidly became a symbol of Colombia and even became the personification herself of the nation up to the present.

I know leaders are now separatr from Civilizations, but it'd be cool to have her as the (Gran) Colombian representation this time around.

I think it will be especially hard to find someone that was not a political leader (either of a state or a revolutionary/political group that wanted to become/impact a state)

The only one I can think of well would be Marx (although he was a political writer so it sort of a slide)

I think the problem is they need some type of “impact on society at large” that is available in every era,..and that’s hard to get in the modern era apart from politics

Friedrich Nietzsche…seems to be the one I would best guess at.

I have plenty of ideas in my signature.

Some of my favorites are Tolstoy, Mary Wollstonecraft, Olympé des Gouges, Tupac Amaru II, and William Wilburforce.

Based purely on the overall “vibes” of revealed non-rulers, I can see Nikola Tesla fitting in like a glove. A bit out of the left field, not the first person that comes to minds of many, but an objectively outstanding resume if you look into his life.

I could see them going for Einstein because they just go with “we want a science character”.

For whatever reason Sir Donald Bradman popped into my head with an Australia DLC. Has nothing to do with politics in a general sense but you can build something from his time in various leadership positions throughout his life. Likes you if you don't change policies often, dislikes you if you do (Reflecting that he generally sided with or reflected a kind of "old guard" way) . Some kind of sports or happiness based bonus.

Ofcourse this rabbit hole eventually leads to Michael Jordan who hates you if you even mildly offend him and will never like you.

Yeah they can go super crazy now. Put Sid back in the game to play against Ed.

Rasputin would be such a fun personality to have in the game.

  • Joane of Arc (I think she could make a comeback)
  • Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar (El Cid).
  • Giuseppe Garibaldi
  • Socrates.
  • Marie Curie
  • Leif Erikson
  • Al-Khwarizmi
  • Malintzin (I'd love it if civ featured her, she is so unfairly maligned)
  • Gonzalo Guerrero (fascinating character, shipwrecked spanish conquistador, captured by Mayans and turned native)
Yeah those last two are opposite faces of the same coin, gotta love the crazyiness of first contact.

I have a longer comprehensive list, but here's a few non-leaders I have on mine:

- Voltaire - father of modern Liberalism, playwright and highly influential political theorist
- Martin Luther - Key figure of the Protestant Reformation
- Plato - Well known political philosopher from Ancient Greece
- Fume Liyongo - Swahili Poet-King (but never one of a fully fledged empire)
- Cesare Borgia - A dastardly scoundrel a certain Italian writer modeled his magnum opus after (and also fitting: a leader of men, but not of a specific nation)
- Hojo Masako - the Shogun-Nun, a cleric with the political influence of a high-ranking Daimyo
- Osh-Tisch - Well known and influentual badé of the Crow people.
- Sacagawea - Iconic Shoshone folk hero
- Paracelsus - Swiss Alchemist and scientist.
- Isaac Newton - Arguably the most impactful scientist of all times.
- Mani - Iranian prophet, founder of Manacheism.
- Enheduanna - the first known poet.
- Anna Komnene - Daughter of Alexios I, a scholar and writer of the Alexiad.
- Yaa Ashantewaa - Mother of the Ghanaians

Einstein and Mother Theresa wouldn't bother me, tbh. Einstein was offered the presidency of Israel, which demonstrated that people were looking at him for guidance - a sign of someone deserving to be a leader. Mother Theresa is controversial, but she was likewise a figure other people looked up to and were inspired by. Those are the type of people you'd want a leaders, rly.

Ordinary people taking up an extraordinary role in history.

My suggestion is Marie Antoinette:

Unique Ability: Queen of Versailles (Extra Culture and Increased Production towards the construction of Buildings and Wonders in Cities adjacent to cities.)

Attributes: Cultural, Diplomatic

Agenda: Let them eat Cake (Increase Relationship by a Medium Amount with the player with the lowest Happiness yield. Decrease Relationship by a Medium Amount with the player that has the highest Happiness yield.)

Admiral Yi Sunsin will be a good choice. I can see him as defensive Leader who have some bonuses about army/fleet commanders.

  • Joane of Arc (I think she could make a comeback)
  • Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar (El Cid).
  • Giuseppe Garibaldi
  • Socrates.
  • Marie Curie
  • Leif Erikson
  • Al-Khwarizmi

All of those would be awesome :)

In particular I think Leif Erikson is highly probable to end up in a game, he just feels like the exact opportunity Firaxis would like to take

Was your suggestion of Einstein inspired by my suggestion yesterday morning of him in the “Design a civ” thread?

I'm guessing that we're going to see a few Leaders who lived in the Modern Age revealed soon, and started speculating on who might be a good fit.
Einstein lived in Germany and America, and was offered the presidency of Israel, so he could be associated with multiple civs down the line.
Einstein was declared by Time to be the Person of the Century; as much opposition as some have to non-rulers and recent historical individuals, his impact on human history will prove more profound than virtually any politician or statesman.

Albert Einstein, Theoretical Scientist

- Martin Luther - Key figure of the Protestant Reformation
His dialogue would break the age rating, but he'd be fun. :p I'd also take his bête noire, Huldrych Zwingli. Or his other bête noire (the man had a veritable menagerie of nemeses), Desiderius Erasmus. Zwingli is nice because he was a de facto political leader of the Swiss Protestants.

- Enheduanna - the first known poet.
- Anna Komnene - Daughter of Alexios I, a scholar and writer of the Alexiad.
Civ7 seems veritably made for these two.

Augustine
Agenda: Hates everyone. :D

Pocahontas
I'd be extremely disappointed to see Pocahontas instead of her father. The man was a veritable charisma machine; his daughter was just a martyr--to her father's ambitions, to the colonists' ambitions, and to the tragic intersection of those ambitions. There are much better options for female Native American leaders (Molly Brant, for one, though I prefer her brother; Woman Chief, for another). It's a shame we don't know more about the Lady of Cofitachequi; there must be a very interesting story behind a woman becoming a paramount chief of a Mississippian chiefdom--but unfortunately we'll never know that story or even her name because De Soto didn't ask.
