When attempting to reinstall the game I ran into a "missing configuration" error in steam. Someone at Firaxis is investigating the problem with Valve, so I'm just waiting on an update from their end. I can make small changes to the mod, but until I can resolve this situation, I'm unable to do bug testing.

Steam's content_log file reports:
[2012-03-07 12:36:48] Missing manifest GID for depotID 16870

Thal, I am not sure if this is connected - I have tried to install every beta version from 131.1 to 131.12 and civ crashes during installation (browse mods and install). Deleted cache, user data, and verified integrity every time. However, then I go back to 131 to play a game and it installs perfectly. Maybe there is a connection?

Someone at Firaxis is investigating the problem I'm having. It's apparently some issue with a new Steam distribution method. No word yet on when it might be solved.

I don't know what you've tried, but from http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2340794 did you trying downloading the English version (I don't know if that's your default).

Also, are you behind a router or proxy server? It may be blocking direct IP addresses that Steam uses to get the source lists (See last post on that thread). For example check your ./Steam/Logs/content_log.txt file for lines that look like:

[2012-01-02 17:02:10] Failed to get "/serverlist/2/20/" from 77.67.60.42:80 (HTTP Error 403)
[2012-01-02 17:02:10] Failed to get "/serverlist/2/20/" from 77.67.60.34:80 (HTTP Error 403)
[2012-01-02 17:02:10] Failed to get "/serverlist/2/20/" from 74.209.135.130:80 (HTTP Error 403)
[2012-01-02 17:02:10] Failed to get list of download sources from any known CS!

These are the error messages when I attempt to install or verify the game:

[2012-02-29 16:42:16] Missing manifest GID for depotID 16870
[2012-02-29 16:42:16] Failed building depot dependency for 8930

No update yet from Firaxis/Valve. On the plus side, it's given me a chance to try out Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which was 70% off on steam. Incredible game! :D

That reminds me. I started playing that game a week ago and got stuck in the FEMA building facing a mech and a bunch of heavily armed guards. I'll have to jump back into it as it's been pretty fun so far.

There's an air vent under the platform to your right when you face that mech. I think it might require the heavy-lifting augmentation to reach. You can also sneak upstairs and eliminate the upper-level guards with takedowns and/or a silenced pistol. Or, if you prefer an aggressive approach, EMP grenades insta-fry robots. Each area has a half dozen different ways to reach an objective. :)

I missed the air vent, but I don't think I have that augmentation. I tried going upstairs three times, but I cannot find a way to deactivate the alarm on the door. Once I get outside on the catwalk the multiple guards take me down pretty quick.

However, I noticed the two cameras on the walls as I went up the stairs. While they don't set the alarm off directly, I thought they might activate the door alarm. Alas, avoiding the cameras had no effect. :( I'll see if I can open the vent anyway. I might get lucky.

I like the hiding/sneaking system, but it does make for some hilarious scenes. The first time I came out of the elevator the guard heard me and came to investigate. He was literally standing right next to me looking around but didn't see me. As soon as he turned around I popped up, took him down, and dragged him behind the boxes, just in time to avoid being spotted by the mech. I like to ad lib the guards in these situations to make it make sense.

Guard: "Wasn't Bob standing right there five seconds ago?"
Mech: "Looks like his IBS has struck again!"

Watch the radar to spot cameras and guards. It's possible to go up the stairs without being spotted by the cams... crouch and use cover a lot (right mouse). Once you're up on the catwalks watch the patrol routes of the guards. One guard comes close to the stairway exit, then turns his back, and at that moment you can do a takedown and drag him out of sight. Then just move on to the other guard. Stay crouched until all the guards in a room are clear.

Also... if you manage to save all the hostages in the factory mission and talk to the civilian at the end, he'll direct you towards a gun merchant where you can buy a silencer for your pistol. Alternatively you can just walk there: the merchant is in an apartment above the basketball court. The 10mm pistol is incredibly good for silent headshots. Then again... that particular silencer might have been part of a DLC, I don't know. Once you do get a silencer & laser sight add them to the pistol.

It's a very fun game. :)

Are you not undertained?! :D

Yes, I got past that part once I avoided the cameras. So many guards to crouch past. I'm not sure my impatience can survive, but I am progressing . . .

I don't understand your problem (missing configuration) and why you need to reinstall the game. I always have a backup done with Acronis software.

Anyway. Congratulations for your work.
Please, come back as soon as possible, ok?

:hatsoff:

I did a backup, but restoring that backup did not help. The circumstances behind the problem do make sense... but I'm unable to discuss that in detail. I just want to keep yall up to date about the delay. :) Since it's been almost two weeks now, and development does need to continue, EmperorFool has generously offered to help debug the current alpha version of the mod to reach a playable state. Hopefully it will be available for beta testing sometime soon.
