Painless execution

I'm sure all of you are tired as hell of this whole Terry Chiavo thing, but it does raise an interesting topic. The best way to kill someone. Most states, and I'm sure other countries use things like Lethal injection, electric chair, firing squad, and (god forbid) hanging. While soem may think that these are painless, there are many records of botched executions where the subject went through much pain before death. One mn was electrocuted 8 times, during which blood was gushing from under his hood, and he was screaming in agony.

An answer to all this madness?

It's called nitrogen asphyxiation. It's the only proven painless way to execute someone. When you suffocate normally, be it drowning or just in an atmosphere with no oxygen, the burning pain you feel is a toxic buildup of carbon dioxide. Howver, if one was to enter a pure nitrogen atmosphere , the oxygen would leave the body, but no carbon dioxide would replace it. There fore, the subject simply falls into sleep, kind of liek when the dentist gives you that fun gas.

My question is, why do states still use these awful methods of execution? And why didn't they do this to Terry and others like her, instead of starving?

I'd love some answers.

Somebody kills three people, I wouldn't mind seeing him screaming while the executioners are trying to figure out what's wrong with the electric chair.

When I was in grade school, I had the usual class bully problem. It went on for years, until I figured out the only solution: I had to beat the crap out of him to get him to leave me alone.

At first glance, you'd be fooled by my appearance--you would think me a nice guy. But I am willing to inflict excruiciating pain on another person, and I don't need a whole lot of provoking to do it. I am really sorry to tell you this, bud--but sometimes inflicting pain on people is the only thing that works.

Well, it's been shown that innocent people have been sent to death-row. If even one person is MAYBE innocent, it would be worth it to use a nitrogen-asphyxiation system. And besides, the reason for the death penalkty is to remove the offender from society, not punish them or make them feel pain.

Virtually all states use lethal injection now, which doesn't require the gas chamber that asphyxiation calls for.

I am personally a fan of the firing squad, but I believe only Utah has that as an option.

We have had dozens, if not hundreds, of threads about whether or not the death penalty should be used.

I would personally prefer if that did not enter into this thread; if you want to argue that the death penalty should not be used at all, do it in another thread. Leave this for the intended purpose -- it's somethng far more unique that we haven't really discussed before.

Well if I had to be excuted I would much rather prefer firing squad, I guess that would just be me though. But for those who want to get a quick painless death I suppose the Nitrogen thing is good.

What about the old soilder way to excute someone, sword straight threw the back of the nexk down the spinal cord.

Exactly, all you need is some rope to tie the hands with and a cutting implement, it's quick and efficient and relatively clean. No need for all this silly lethal injection and electricution stuff.

sulpheric acid
Oh please, even the Royal Society of Chemistry calls it sulfuric acid now! And, if you're going to do it old school style it's spelled sulphuric acid.

yes, and btw everyone knows the correct way of killing people, innocent or guilty, is to dip them in egg batter and then slowly dipping them in a giant deepfrier!

voila! deep fried dude!

Nerve gas should be an option, sure it would be painfull but fun for those who whatch it:)

If you're searching for appropriate methodes I advice reading of the following book-
mainly rubbish but the part about torture may satisfy the highest demands:

Institoris, H., Sprenger, J.: 'Maleus Maleficarum', (1487)

But post#11 is also already quite something. Congrats!

More is needed than this.

Some of the people currently in prisons were, without a doubt, falsely convicted; this is statistically certain. Yet nobody's arguing for abolishing the prison system.

....and the inevitable response in any thread such as this would be....(c'mon, somebody's gonna say it eventually)

Nazi Style. Death, like all things, should be mass-produced.

Although I personally much prefer the ol' pit and shoot to the cold im[personal gas chambers.

Here the police take those sentenced to death to the middle of the woods on the appointed day, then neatly shoot a single bullet to the back of the head. Mightly efficient and quite painless. Unless the gun jams... :mischief:

Oh and for maximum efficiency, I hear they bill the cost of the bullet to the convict's family. Only an unconfirmed rumor though...
