Palin Speech: I smell fear.

Palin did a damn good job.

And the Democrats, as we have seen, have every justification for trying to tear her apart.

She is a wunderkandidate.

See, that would be my worry if I was you guys actually.

If the GOP base and the Dem base are fired up and plugged in equally...Dems win going away. Just by raw numbers for this cycle, there are a lot more Democrats, and they were a lot more intense about this election to begin with.

That was a great "red meat" speech, but I can't help but think that Palin and Rudy overplayed their hands a little bit, and just came off as mocking and mean. For every screaming delegate there, I bet somebody was writing another check to the Obama campaign.

Also, was Mitt Romney seriously ranting against Eastern Elitism? Reeeaaallly? I feel like the GOP wrote some fine speeches, but mixed up who should give them. That would have been a great speech for Huckabee or Palin...

This wasn't the speech I would've given if I was her. So in my mind, it failed.

She should have given a more personable speech, about being a people's governor, about her experience, throw in a few touching stories, talk about her family...

Subtle attacks > overt attacks. Cmon, Sun Tzu FTW

Of course he is! He doesn't need stupid partisanship, he's crass just for the sake of crassness!
Then he should crassly attack Obama too! There's just as much potential for abuse with him as with Palin. ;)

Jesus christ, the USA has no lefties, so stop slandering us. All the US has is conservatives, and not-so-conservatives.
American politics means this is an American thread, which means we use American terms. If you don't like it, you can kindly get out.

;)

Is it just me or are a alot of old people at the RNC ?

It's patently ridiculous; from what I've seen, most Ameircans seem to think that "left wing" means "liberal" or "slightly less conservative", which does little to either dispell the idea of American ignorance and arrogance, or to enamour Americans to people who aren't Americans, who either find themselves labelled as communists (like Sarkozy or Blair!) or who find themselves in the same group as gun toting fundamentalists.

Ummm... Thats exactly what she did.

Okay, so she's good at rallying the base, something very helpful to be sure, although Obama pwns her on that. It remains to be seen if independent voters would be convinced.

Oh I have a rough idea

Wait a minute FF, did you link to a comment page from a newspaper article?

No...you didn't...wait....

You're right: this election will be decided by the middle, as all are. And the speech last night was extremely effective in courting the middle I thought. Not one mention of an overtly Conservative ideal, and instead Sarah spoke in generalizations with frequent criticisms of Obama (the same criticisms the middle share). I think she made her first big night in national politics a big one, and she is now considered a stalwart of her party.

Pretty impressive after one speech (hmmm...sounds familiar).

Of course the left won't like her. The media will continue their investigative reporting. But after the speech last night, you can bet a whole new swath of people will be looking at Palin with great enthusiasm.

And not just those on the right.

Are those delegates, or just random people? I'd expect the average delegate to be kind of old....

Well, in American, "liberal" does mean leftist. We also spell color the right way. ;) I find it amusing that you're so insistent on the "proper" terminology. Because really - you have no right to insist to us on anything, seeing as how you lost the war. ;)

I guess you dont get the analogy that I am making here. Elephants = The Republican Party Mascot.

Really. Wow.

Just because a person does not like nor agree with a person politicaly makes em intolerant?!

Thats pretty much the definition of intolerant Civg, so yeah.

Actually, I don't. I just simply dislike other Republicans who blindly follow Bush like a party zombie

Thus you are intolerant of those people. Get it yet?

Hey, I did not placed any jabs against you buddy and yet you are resorting to argumentum ad hominem against me? How low can you get.

No, thats not an ad hom against you. Its using you as an example of intolerance....effectively.

C'mon MobBoss, you're better than that and grown up not to stoop down to the level of rioters in St. Paul.

Errr. Huh?

And why is that a no? What makes not extending hate crime laws to homosexuals not intolerant but yet you see liberals intolerant when infact they are for tolerance.

One.....as its already a crime to harm a person for reason x to begin with, I have never seen the point of such hate crime legislation. Secondly, 32 states do indeed have hate crimes laws on the books that cover sexual orientation, so your claim of 'intolerance' is specious at best.

Well, America is a country founded upon liberalism and the liberal traqdition, yet I'd doubt anyone would define America as "leftist".
It's not a european thing, it's the correct poltical analysis on it so for America to use completely hollow and nonsensical terms is quite stupid.

After what has been said and printed about Palin these last few days, the irony of this comment made me laugh. Really.

America was founded on what's called Classical Liberalism. The word liberalism itself has now taken another meaning. I don't understand why you're griping so much over the definition of a word - American English doesn't have to be the same as the Queen's. Just get over it already.

I didn't watch the whole thing but from the excerpts I gathered she was preaching to their base mostly. I don't see how she will attract independent voters with this rhetoric, maybe their depending on her looks for that.

You are correct, it is the disgusting vitriol and frantic scurrying by the left and media that will secure the independents for the GOP.

Because
a) It's incorrect, and elads to confusion
b)you're lumping people like me in the same category as Barack Obama, which I find deeply insulting.
Should I lump you in with, say, Fred Phelps or such?
