PBEM Playtest of AWAW

-Heavy Fighting around Prague.
-Leningrad recaptured, revealing a German slaughter of the inhabitants.

The USSR ask her American Allies to renew our peace treaty. Our diplomats tells us that we are at war, but surely this is not the case?

Like steppe fires, rumours spread in Russia that the Japanese Emperor is on his way to Moscow to receive amnesty.

It's now January 1941.

I can talk about this due in part to captured documents as this is no doubt pro-yank propaganda, so everything I will say here will be released by your "free" press. (oterh documents you DEFINATLY will NOT want released).

You'll have to look at it from my side Morton, when you came acorss the ocean I had NO ships save one carrier, I was barricading my mainland with a double ring of torpedoes, and a collection of Stuka's. the defense in the south and east was done I was just working my way north. You came thorugh the gap. in a few turns I was going to start buliding a new navy but you got there early, just imagine if you came from the south.

But realistically your war was won in two turns.

Pearl Harbour due to a bad judgement on my part allowed my fleet to get mauled by yours, partly due to air power not being as effective as I thought it would be and figters guardig the bombers.... ha! what a laugh.... not! - be internesting to see a repeat of this given the increased air stats and not having a cruiser destroy half my air power. (which is why I was so irrate)

Thankfully enough of my fleet escaped and was actually sculking around south america for a long time, building up its strength. During which time I brought infantry up "libertaing" the small islands. I was hoping my maruading patrol of a cruiser and battleship was directing your attentions north long enough for me to move in from the south.

Then you you jammy B*****d took out my carriers & troop carriers a couple of skirmishes later and my fleet was no more. I hadn't bulit a single unit under working under "operation: yellow coast", which involved me landing in San Franciso (I think it was) unconnected to your railway and literally with my +500 gold a turn buy enough defenders from the indigeous japense and use that as a power base to invade.
You moved first though and you can't do that with no infantry and no airforce which you managed to take it all out.

A possible plan... yes; a probable plan... 50:50

Result: America; Heads, Heads. Japan looses, if the result went the other way I could have taken a surprising amount of territory before offering a ceasefire basically winning the war for me in the pacific

A couple of cases of bad (or good) luck decided the ewar for japan I'm afraid. Attack first, attack hard and force a settlement.... at least that was the plan.

As to what I was doing.

Well you are now the proud owner of a spanking new arms industry. Japan at the start only had 3 cities of worth (production over 10) I had increased that to 8, and in a couple of turns it would have been turning into an enourmous arms factory.

Damn you were lucky at San Francisco, if you had delayed for a few more turns the invasion of the mianland would NOT have been easy at all.

Dunquerqe was wiped out during fighting.
LOW COUNTRIES liberated
Sme Soviet forces destroyed

Yes, I think you easily could. I was especially worried about the potential for japanese paratrooper landings in Texas, taking out my valuable oil fields, so I quickly built anti-aircraft defenses etc. there.

I think the key to a successful pbem game is three things, primarily, worked in combinations : 1) diplomacy - securing not to fight two fronts at once, 2) surprise - including covert ops and false propaganda, drawing enemy attention and forces to places of lesser importance, and 3) overwhelming strength at the point of attack, so you can lessen the possibility for a counterattack.

All these points are not always possible, but when they are, you have the best opportunities to strike where your opponent expect it the least.

If your strategy should have worked, Boli, you should have waited to attack me until the point where you were absolutely certain you could take out the west coast, and not enable me to counterattack. Your attack would have come as a complete surprise, because I thought you were pretty blasted after those first encounters, as you say yourself.

Secondly my fleet was away from the west coast at the time. By taking those worthless islands and attacking prematurely, you gave me ample warning to protect my coasts and think about building coastal fortressess and gathering all my forces on the west coast.

When you didn't come back a second time, I knew I needed to get to Japan quickly, but also that I needed maximum strength in order to devastate you, by taking enough cities and destroying enough units, so my fleet wouldn't get wiped out in the counterattack. The US pacific fleet that invaded Japan consisted of 7 battleships, 1 cruiser, 1 carrier carrying a lot of fighters and bombers, and 6 transports worth of infantry (including engineers and paratroopers) and material (at least one of these transports is still underway). I knew there was no way in heaven you could match this fleet, but I was still worried about your air power. Actually I intended to wait a few turns with the attack, since my air support was about 1 or 2 turns from Japanese airspace, in order to take out your capital, but when you discovered a couple of my ships I decided I had to go for it, although I was not completely ready to take out the entire island.

I attacked early because I knew I would have never have got the numerical advantage as I did then.

Each day America and Russia are allowed increases your advantage, Japan and Germany have no choice but to attack early otherwise they will quickly be overwellmed. By signing that alliance with Britain so early; brought me into the war much earlier as I could not continue to build my strength in the paciffic by attacking the British/Russians. My only chance was to attack on all fronts and hope for a short war.

Ignore the fact I declared war and put it that I was just at war with Russia, my ground forces were pathetic and with the size of Russia they would have (and actually did) just grind me down on the west, by signing that alliance forced my hand as I knew as soon as I went on the offensive I would have been crushed from all flanks but I knew it offered me my only hope of winning. If that alliance hadn't taken place I could have secured my power in the paccific much easier by concentrating my forces first againt the British/French before turning on th Russians and held off the Russians.

Maybe I should have held my strength off for a while but if I had snuck past it increased the chances of encountering your navy and you seeing I was pre-empting you, also attacking directly at the coast will allow your fleet to be "behind" my lines and you could have easily creating much havoc. I thus had to detroy your navy before attacking - navel suppirority and take your only port cities (3 of them I think) will give me complete dominance on the pacific.

Being my opposite number in the other senerio give me a unique looks at the pacific war, and I know EXACTLY what forced my hand in this senerio.

Just to let you all know:

I'm going back to my ancestral home ( ie. where my parents live... :) ) for a week following tomorrow.

I will play my turn(s) as soon as I come back.

:king:

Osaka, Hiroshima and Nagasaki taken under US administration. Matsuyama bombarded. The entire island of Japan is now under US control. American ships gain the advantage of Japanese naval technology (Japanese Aggression wonder).

US Scientists have now initiated production of a brand new bomber design - specially designed for the war in Europe.

Eivind and BKA, I just shared the latest in US bomber technology with you. Also gifted the Minor Allies a couple of useful techs . . .

- Have a nice holiday, Bo! :)

Just as you know:

I'm going on holiday from the 2nd of July to the 16th (Prague, Barcelona and Amsterdam :D )

And another thing, from the end of July I'll probably have to leave you guys for good. I'm heading for Bergen to attend the University, so I'll probably have little or no time for civ-ing... :(

But who knows... ;)

USSR thanks their American allies for the usefull tech on aviation.

Prague captured once again.

Okinawa and Matsuyama captured. The world turns, while US forces begin to collect on British soil, awaiting final orders.

Eivind, I was forced to give you some cash by the AI, for sharing your map. Hope this is okay with you ;) - maybe you should change your diplo attitude towards the Russians, as the British AI keeps demanding I declare war against them...

Sorry guys, thought I had played this one.

-Zagreb liberated - German troops pocketed on the Balkans.

@Voltar

Just wanted to say that I'm impressed with the Germans will to resist. Your defences are like pounching in a rubber wall. I also hate your rogue battleship by the way.

British Bomber shot down over Marseilles.

British naval convoy bombed at low countries

Thx for praise BKA. I do my best so you'll do your worst ;)
