Assyria's Peace theme ends up sounding a lot like a war theme, but it also does a great job once it gets going of conveying the majesty of Ashurbaniapal's court.

Use pm to ask personal questions. but, I'll give the answer of your question. I don't like byzantine music because I'm not a fan of their music. That's the reason why I gave (-) to byzantine.
This is a legit question to ask in this thread, because it is discussion-related, and Elimination threads require us to provide arguments for every vote we make. Digging further, why are you not a fan of their music? Please, refrain from answers like "because I don't like their music" or "their music is bad", those are not arguments.

I am initiating the save Byzantium Faction for the beautiful music.

My reasons to up voting Byzantium of the following is because the entrance of the music is one of power, prestige, glory, and an unbending will of a conquers path. It brings up my inner ambitions when I listen to it and as the song go's along it just keeps me rising with a fire in my heart then it goes soft like sad tune and then rises on its feet like a phoenix takes off again.

Now for Korea I don't I can handle Eastern Asian music because every time I enter China or Korea's leader screens it just annoys the pi$$ out of me I don't know why it does I think its that string instrument in their just plucks my feathers while its plucking the chords. Siam on the other hand is much nicer with the flute but I digress.

Unlike the popular English theme which is a blatant plagiarism of Jupitor from the planets. It could make for a good music puzzler and suits Napolean well considering he is one of more deceptive rulers in game.)

Not really Korean music and the style is unappealing to me.

Portugal +1:
I love this music, though I'm slightly biased as Civ4 Portugal music was also my favorite. This version is just as inspired though and I can really enjoy the sense of exploration that this Civ focues on here)

Poland : I like uplifting music. This one nicely combine soulful and serenity in a theme. I start to wonder why Casimir choose to conduct diplomacy with such a music in dungeon, by the way.

Byzantine : I would not have problem with this if they pair this music with some theocratic state. But this is BYZANTINE empire. With their territory that was span in half of Mediterranean and probably the greatest empire of the west for hundreds of years. It's just feel underwhelming listen to this. I expect intimidating chorus while the music is like giving me halfway of it. It doesn't give the feel I long for since Civ4.

By the way, Anyone else feel like there are too many great piece to upvote?

Well the Byzantine Empire was essentially a theocracy as well as a absolute monarchy they go hand in hand so the power and singing equal absolute power and theocracy.

"Underwhelming for a great empire"...say that to Rome's theme. This rendition of Phos Hilaron fits Byzantine well enough, since the latter is the cradle of Eastern Christianity - Firaxis didn't design Byzantium as a religious civ for no historical reason. And the theme is actually grand enough for an empire - the original Phos Hilaron sounds much more subtle. I also can't understand the "great empire - give me an intimidating chorus" logic. Should China also sound intimidating? IMO the only civ that goes well with an intimidating chorus is Russia at war.

You mean your rearranged piano music? Sure!

You mean your rearranged piano music? Sure!

It's not particularly well done, but here! Be liberal with the pedal; (I normally use it throughout the whole song, despite only certain parts being marked) especially since you may have to use it to compensate for some keys that can't be held.

+ Compare this piece of music with the old "Montezuma" theme from Civ 2 and 4. The latter, while brings in some good memories, has nothing to do with aztecs and doesn't have any progression, so it sounds rather goofy. The Civ 5 version, on the other hand, shows serenity, splendor and a sense of adventure. It's another face of the aztecs that sounds genuine and beautiful!

- Venice track sounds generic and falsely dramatic. The composer had the chance to use some Vivaldi piece, and missed it. Sorry, Enrico Dandolo, but I'm not buying your bland and not-so-venetian music.

Indonesian theme is lively, soulful and give some kind of mystical aura. It's my new favorite theme after few day of BNW release.
I have to say it's pretty hard for me to downvote a civ's theme since I like it for it's own reason. Egypt's have less thing to be liked IMO. So downvote for them. (I like Venice theme too. But I don't mind if someone axed it)

About "underwhelming". I found Roman's theme satisfactory. Maybe my higher expectation for Byzantine Empire backfire in this time :)

Venice for me evokes entirely the wrong era. I get a distinctly modern feel to the music rather than something more era-appropriate to the height of Venice. To me it almost feels like someone has composed it based on a romanticized feeling towards Venice today, rather than taking much historical consideration.

Portugal however is amazing. It feels really appropriate (though i've got no real gauge as to how Portuguese music specifically sounds). I just really enjoy their music and it gets me playing them far more than i might otherwise.
