PH14: The Return of the King

Stupid barbs... that city would be far better 1 E :p

Anyway , got it for the weekend
In my world it is still sunday in more than half of it.... and I said weekend exactly because it was unlikely to play before today.....

Anyway, sorry pholk, but it is not this time that you'll get a fully detailed report with (x,y) postions, mainly because we haven't the map centered yet :p

This map is proving to be very calm until now .....

Ony 2 bench marks in this short 8 turns set ( just mo get Aesthetics )....

First, the line of the stewards is closed for us....
Spoiler :

And we ended with Aesthetics:
Spoiler :

I moved the settler we had to the vicinity of the marble spot ( I know hatty enough to let that spot open.... the settler is unmoved because i'm still uncertain if we settle the marble or not )

Another issue: there is any reason for not being in Rep? i haven't revolted to not cut the research of the tech , but given that we have 4 sci hired.....

Anyway, the save, mr hurried ppl :p

I would had revolted in the beginning of the set if I had noticed that we weren't on Rep :p

You should have read my last comment.. I mentioned it over there.. So pindi please switch it immediately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nonetheless, for our next city: what's about settling one title E of the marble?

And for tech I'd purpose Alpha next for some tech tradings..

A marble city will look so pretty, and there'll be lots of tasty food to eat as well.

Pholkhero had better teach r-rolo1 how to count. He's hired six scientists not four.

If we revolt to rep then it won't matter that Boston would have gone unhappy next turn.

I was getting bored with the Great Lighthouse. Up yours Denethor!

Edit: crossposted with TS. Its difficult to fit in the crabs and the sheep if we don't go for marble and NW riverside. We give away the horses but if Hatty's that keen on chariots then we'll just build some spears.

The last two sci were of my doing :p We were not doing anything remotely hurry-able and I decided to take some miners to the library :p And I didn't wanted to blame pholk of something that he haven't done... what he does is normally enough ;)

Okay, so if I read all this right I am supposed to stay in Despotism, right? Or do I go into rep and fire all the scientists? :D

As for the next city site, I'm going to throw my vote for settling on the marble. Why? Because we've decided on a SE, and with an SE the goal is to have your cities running as many high-yield tiles with the remainder as specialists. In fact, the crappy terrain around the resource tiles only reinforces running specialists in that city. Plus this sticks to the same strategic theme as we chose when settling NY: one stronger city and latter bringing in fillers rather than dividing the resources between 2 or 3 lesser cities.

Concerning research: do we like going Math->Currency, or would we rather go Poly->Literature for the Great Lib & Parthenon?

Other MM: I'm sure the Monument in Washington is just a place holder, so I'd actually like to swap it to a fishing boat to map out the NE island and then run down to the marble city to fish those crabs.

Really, this is some spotty terrain, isn't it?

In case you were serious about the gov. civic, we want Rep immidiately... I mean, wth, we've agreed on a SE, we grab Pyramids early, and we forget rep? We forget rep? :wallbash:

Concerning research: do we like going Math->Currency, or would we rather go Poly->Literature for the Great Lib & Parthenon?

If I'd ask me, I'd take Poly for the Parthenon but I won't go for Lit right at the moment.. The AI won't go for aesthetics early, so there is no need to hurrying for the GL... I think it's more important to get currency pretty soon. And as long as we don't want (or need) the Hanging gardens I think math is not as important as alpha is.

Some of us have been throwing around a really revolting idea
:vomit:

1) 470BC
I notice Hatty has Alphabet and will trade it for Aesthetics & Sailing. That would have been helpful to have seen, say, before I played.

2) 455BC
Settle Atlan... er, Hotlan... er, Coldlanta! Get it? It's built near tundra!

Research goes to 20% to stay in the black, but our representatives in congress are keeping the fat cat scientists warm with their gold-plated bunsen burners! That really didn't make sense, did it?

3) 440BC
Just what is soaking up all that money, anyway?

2 ways to look at this: one is we need to cut costs, another is we need to increase cash-flow.

4) 425BC
Polytheism is in da' house! Now I research... um...

I can tell how rusty I am -- 2 things that I should have caught before the turnset and brought up to the team I am just noticing now:
#1 - Great Person going to be born in 6 turns in Washington (100% GS) or 7 turns (probably gonna be ~50/50 GS/GE). What do we do with them?
#2 - Hatty has Alphabet! (Didn't I already say this?) She will trade it for Aesthetics + Polytheism/Sailing.

So I re-read (e.g. skimmed) the thread to try to find what other people had put down in writing. Parthenon was put down to emphasize our SE - and that seems like a good idea. Did I find any answers to my questions? No! But I did find one of us ( :mischief: ) said that it would be foolish to go for the Oracle about 4 turnsets ago, and look! The Oracle still hasn't been built, even at the end of my turnset! I think the AIs are wonderphobes this game.

Back on track!
#1 - let's go for the element of chance! GE or GS? Who knows! So we're going to fire those scientists in Washington temporarily. I'll re-hire them in 2 turns, but now New York will have the first Great Person born. Will it be a boy or a girl? This proud parent doesn't want to see the ultrasound!

#2 - Let's make a trade! We know we're going to go after Hatty eventually, right? And if she builds us some tasty wonders in the meantime then so much the better!

Having Alphabet, we can now see what Qin has:

Why won't Qin trade Math?

He might as well be telling us "Pssst! We're building some really cool gardens over here!" Wink wink, nudge nudge.

I end up this marathon-paced turn by putting our research to Currency!
I hit enter and wonder if I single-handedly ruined managed to ruin the game!

IT -
Hatty offers to trade Polytheism for Archery.
"No baby, I said I'D call YOU!"

(P.S. This might have been funnier if I would have remembered to paste the picture after copying it.)

5) 410BC
Hatty now has Priesthood

6) 395BC
Washington's got cabin fever

I got the infamous Crash to Desktop bug from opening the log! Who's using BUG? Why aren't I?

Reloading from auto-save...
I re-hire the scientists in Washington. This drops Currency down to 13 turns (from 19). New York due to birth in 5 turns, Washington in 6. (Well, really 31 because New York will birth first and Washington will realize it can't have a Great Person too, because everybody will think they just had a GP just cause New York was doing it!)

9) 350BC
New York finishes Lighthouse.

Meanwhile, in Coldlanta...

Hatty built another nearby city, as you can also see.

10) 335BC
Overflow from Coldlanta's monument went into a granary. If we build a WB directly after it will be finished 2 turns before borders pop, which is as close to optimal as we're going to get here.

Going to wrap things up here.

Our new baby will be born next turn in New York! Will it be a boy or a girl?

But if we're still a little shy to the idea of getting a GE first, we can still abort the scientists and let Washington give us a child from it's purer SE pool.

Oh, hey! Our galley's been playing around up north, too! I think we have some room for more cities.

The world we know

Lurker comment:

Indeed, why aren't you? :p Regarding the crash, it would appear your fearless leader is to blame since there are problems with log entries in both the mid 3000s BC and 825BC. But there's now a fix and you know you want to be the first SG to officially use it. :groucho:

Some more post-game notes:
-New York has only a few hammers invested in the parthenon at this point so if we really want to build it somewhere else (say, Boston so we can chop it?) then we can move it easy enough.
-Coldlanta should build a WB after its Granary finishes
-I'm thinking 2 cities (Washington + Boston/New York) build military and capture/raze our nearby barbarian towns. With Currency in we should even be able to settle some more cities.

Above all I think our priorities need to be more military and more settlers/workers, especially if that northern island is anywhere as nice as it appears it may be

Nice turnset, Pindi. Who's up?

On Parthenon: Oracle hasn't fallen yet. Hatty does not have Poly, Qin not even Mysti. We can make it with the current prod, I believe. No need for chopping.

Will Hatty trade Priesthood? We need CoL soon, I believe. And MILITARY!

Nice turnset, Pindi. Who's up?

It's you Diamond..

We can make it with the current prod, I believe. No need for chopping.

I think it's worth trying it.. And even if we don't succeed we'll get at least some money.. But we shouldn't trade Poly for Priesthood.. We only need 3 turn to get it and keeping Poly would keep us still some advantage on Lit.. And as long as we want GLib Lit should be more important than currency..

Concerning the GPs.. Go for it in NY 'cause getting the engeneer would fasten the GLib quite a lot..

sheesh ~ my first official day teaching was moonday so it's been a whirlwind of crud for me these past few days. however, i think i've finally gotten on top of it (for now), so on to the game ~

good turns all ~ like teh Coldlanta ~ good progress on the wonder-front as well. but (as diamond says) we can't get caught up in happy little wonderland ~ we do need some military soon.

also, i just dl'ed BUG so it ain't me f-in up the log ;)

Uh-oh. If it's possible, got it for Sunday. Else, I'll need a skip. Busy weekend.

And apart from lots of military and Parth, whaddya recon we do?

Tech Pri->Col?

Keep the Greatperson for GLib if its a Engi?

What if its a Sci? Settle?

Well, if we are thinking about making a play for the Oracle then we should move immediately to Priesthood. Otherwise I say finish Currency -> Lit -> CoL

If we get a scientist first I think we want an academy in Washington. If we get the engineer then I would vote for using him on Temple of Artemis in the capital or settling him. I'm not worried at all about losing the Great Lib: we have production and marble and the wonder rate this game has been very slow.

I'd like to see more military, too, and more recon of that northern island. It looks like it will be a decent size for a couple of cities.

OK.. As Diamond asked for a skip I'll take it and will go for it within a few hours..

I'll try to get the oracle.. And COL afterwards. But what tech to take in case we'll get the Oracle? Metal Casting for early forges?

And I'm going to get some military into our bordercities...

Other ideas?

Finished my turns so far.. Nothing of big importance happend, so I'll keep this report short:

-interturn: changed tech to priest, changed production in NY to barracks (to build here the Oracle later on) and whiped the LH in Philadelphia

-320 BC: In Washington an axe was build and I went on with whiping another one. The LH in Boston finished and Boston started the Parthenon. The hammer-overflow in Phili went into a lib. Finally Henry Ford (GE) was born in NY! GLib here we come!!!

-305 BC: Priest is in and I changed tech to Lit 'cause Hatty got Poly and I think we do want to land the GLib quite soon.
NY started the oracle.. Will finish it in 6 turns..

-290 BC: Ok.. Oracle was worth the try.. but hbbidl.. :( At least we got 38 gold from the wasted hammers..

-275 BC: Granary finished in Coldlanta and production goes to LH.

-260 BC: Another axe out of Washington and a WB for Coldlanta was started.

-230 BC: The only thing that was worth a screen:

As we want to go for Hatty sooner or later I didn't take the -10 gold +3 diplo choice..

-200 BC: Washington finished WB and starts a spear. The WB was send to Coldlanta.

-185 BC: Lit is in and I changed back to currency. And here I stopped, 'cause we should discuss where to build the GLib and whether we should use the GE or not.

Here the new explored island in the north:

Concerning tech: I switched to currency as a placeholder, 'cause going for CoL and hopefully getting Conf + courthouses is more important than currency for traderoutes + markets.
