My personal philosphy is that life is painful. From birth to death, life is filled with it. Whether you suffer or inflict it, somebody is always getting hurt.
However, it is up to each individual to either except or lay aside these hurts, to enjoy life. Though it seems pointless at some times, there are things that are hopeful. If you view life in a fresh, unbiased way, you will be surprised by the many positive things this world has to offer. Be it a cold glass of beer, a woman's hip, a child's smile or just good sex. Life is it's own reward.

OK I'll stop sounding like a commercial.
What are your views?

One of the biggest steps to acheiving hapiness is disregarding other's moral and especially aesthetic opinions. Of course I personally am very "live and let live", but being nice isn't necessarily a pre-requisite for hapiness.
Basically what I am trying to say is, live for yourself, and of course be good to those close to you. But becoming "a productive member of society" is only good as far as it is good for YOU.

Gnosticism, wasn't that the forerunner of western christianity?

Yep, the most fascinating part about it is that they say God did not create the universe, but a lesser idiotic diety did, and that's why its so bad.

Pain good :D(My tolernce for pain is very high) SO therefore I live by being willing to put myself through anything, suffer any pain, so long as I come out stronger in the end.

We are a fluke of the universe, we have no right to be here. god is irrelevant. If there is a reason I won't live long enough to find it. Worry about an afterlife in the afterlife assuming there is one. life is irrelevant so enjoy.

Life's just one big practical joke. But the good thing is, you friends, so you can laugh at them when they get burnt.

Life isn't pain. Pain is part of life but so is pleasure. If you believe that life is pain then you will try to aviod life (all creatures strive to aviod pain), you will turn turn to drugs, alcohol, compulsive overeating, self-abuse, abuse of others or chanting Hare Krisna all day in order to block it out/transcend it.

I think hell is on Earth and so is heaven. As my sig states I am forever, always and constantly (did I mention always) seeking maximum fulfillment!! I will not resign myself to see life as a big painfest to be escaped occasionally thru alcohol, an erotic massage or light aimless banter among buddies. F*** that! I'm in it to win it baby! Life is suffering! Bah! If I believed that I'd off myself this minute.

I don't suscribe to the notion that we are here by chance, I am not an atheist but I do not follow a particular religion. I don't suscribe to the 'everything is pointless' notion either, there is a point to everything as long as you define it yourself. It is good to strive for knowledge of the universe and the human condition. Goal setting is a good exercise and mediocrity should be avoided in all its forms.

Despite acknowledged lack of evidence to support the notion, I believe there is something more, we are not a product of an astronomically tiny chance, I cannot (and neither can anyone else, truly) fathom the idea of true and utter non-existence, so I like to think there is something more if for no other reason then it is a good philosophical symbol.

Beautifully point Omega! :goodjob:

If one sees the universe and what happens in it as pointless then one will live a pointless life. If one sees things as having meaning than one will find a way to make their life meaningful. Arguing whether another about whether there is meaning or not is a waste of time, you can't convince another, people can only create meaning (or chaos) for themselves.

If you believe life is pain, you will see pain, the more you believe the more you will strengthen your belief. If you see life as pleasure you will see pleasure. If you believe there are alot of SUV's out there you will notice them wherever you go, same goes for BMW's, ceiling tiles and the number 12.

So if you want to enjoy life I suggest focusing on the beauty of it and not the suffering otherwise all pleasure will seem to be an escape.

I'm not quite sure you understand what I said in the first place, Narz.

Creativity, majesty, glory and freedom.

I am here to find my own treasure in life and to never bow to fabricated lies!

Watch me as I ride past! :D

Actually - I think Narz has a great deal of understanding, about many things!

Enjoy life. You only got one.
As Narz, we should all be seeking maximum fulfillment, always.
And the fact the one can enjoy life does not mean that another has to suffer. The riches of one do not cause the misery of another. Earth is big and generous for us all, if we are dedicate enough we can have an excellent life. That's how I see it.

I experience. I create with experience. I experience by creating.

In very simplistic terms...

Life is an obstacle course...the more obstacles you pass the better your life is going to be. But there will always be one obstacle that you will never overcome and that is death. The length between obstacles is sometimes the measure of happiness in your life. (not always)

Some of us are born with more obstacles to overcome than others.

Life is a great game, where it is not if you win or lose, but how you play that matters, and your ultimate end being to glorify God, in all you do. Does not matter what, you can glorify God at your job as a grarbage collector or as any other, non-sinful activity. As long as this is your main purpose regardless of what happens in your life, you will be more joyful. Not necessarily happy as happiness is often not modifiable by your actions (you might work your whole life the a nice big house for the family, and then have it all burn in a single night because of a broken outlet, you can't help but feel unhappy about it) but joyful, and you can be joyful any time, any where, under any circumstances when you are a christian because you know the worst thing that can happen to you is your death or the death of your family. And to quote 1 corinthians 15:55 "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" :)
