Picking up the Pieces

@Iggy, Nothing in particular that you did, the claims of Zeta Wing to have the plans for a jump capable ship, if you feel I'm mischaracterizing your race then I can get rid of it, but the skepticism of that Rafiki Commander isn't going to go away. (EDIT: In retrospect I realize now that Commander Sergeant Captain is deeply racist and I have toned down his rhetoric)

@Seon, No, I wouldn't reccomend mounting a land invasion, but they don't even need military support, so you wouldn't have to send any troops there.

To: Lilin

We are sending representatives as we speak, various local member of the Tucuxi tribe of Dolphins will be available to answer any questions. While it would be useful for checking our encryption, if you cannot part with your only uplink then we understand. Perhaps you can think of another way our peoples can cooperate, or maybe you could offer the use of your hyperspanner to some group in exchange for more uplinks. You could use your human computer if you know how to.

Presently everything is working fine here, we have no need for the hyperspanner.

OOC: The Circle and the All Seeing Eye religions are pretty open to interpretation. Freeman invented a disease last turn that I thought was neat and so I utilized it a lot, the alien factions got extra rep for spreading that disease last turn. What we know about the Circle right now, as the creators of the timeline, is that it is focused on reincarnation and self improvement and that the first time that the Circle came to Earth the religion that developed out of their teachings was Hindu.

Hey,

OOC

...Commander Sergeant Captain is deeply racist and I have toned down his rhetoric.

Why would you tone it down? He is a member of the ruling aliens who have conquered
a vast range of aliens. To have a leader with a racist attitude just adds to the NES.
I can also see were working with humans is possible for him because of the failed invasion.
To place the blame or to be suspicious of what he considers a conquered weaker race
would be in character. The Humans stopped them. Plus would it not be up to Lord Iggy
to show his side of the conflict? Which from reading they use human slaves for labor.
Now the information that they use traps has confirmed The Yankee Suns knowledge
that this race is to be seen as very dangerous.

Question of Player Knowledge
Spoiler :
This isn't a personal attack. I believe it is a Players responsibility to read the posts to find the answer to questions. Its like finding the information on the net. If you don't look then when you are blindsided by a update, its because of a lack of information on the players part. All the information is there to see. Sorry to seem to nitpick but to me it adds a extra element to the NES experience. Its no big deal, just seeing were the rules are & maybe what you all think about it.

Blaze Injun

I didn't tone it down that much, I made it clear that he still has negative feelings towards the Tourliski, but that I'm not trying to characterize the whole race. It is important for him to tell his side, but I wanted to make sure he understood that those statements were not intended to be overall game-fact (I don't want him to feel crowded out of being able to tell his side) but rather reflect the personal opinions of the Rafiki in question.

I was just wondering why he brought up the Tourliski in the first place, I was curious as to what brought that on as any mention of my species is highly relevant to Omicron Wing.

After rereading the diplomacy, I think I understand that the Commander was referring towards Zeta Wing and their escape plans. I'm just wondering what brought it up.

Anyway, I don't think you're mischaracterizing anything, and I don't think that any sort of toning down was necessary.. Everything seems reasonable. That goes for the characterization of my species as well- the Tourliski wouldn't call what they're doing 'slavery', they view it as an exchange of protection for assistance, but I could see an outsider caling it that.

We are receiving your transmission we have control of this city. Do you have any word from the Rafiki? If the Rafiki have left I think it would be best if you came here and we joined forces to conquer this continent. I’m sick of these humans, there are enough natural resources here, some of our science officers are working on developing a rigged up faster than light engine within the limitations of what we are finding. We can get out of here!

The Rafiki seem to have abandoned us, with the exception of a few individuals who seem to be willing to sell us out in order to escape this planet. We are currently directing our long-term efforts to repairing or rebuilding a warp-capable vessel and escaping the oppressive gravity of this planet Dirt, though our plans beyond that are currently undecided. We will deploy forces to aid in your research and help ensure our mutual defense.

We appreciate your help, our gravity generators have been offline and many of our civillians are crawling around in pain on this wretched rock.

To: Omicron Wing
From: Easter Island

From your diplomacy I gather that you are very interested in leaving this planet, I do not understand why, this is a delightful bubble, and all who live here enjoy their time. Life is quick here, but the fish are plenty. We also come to you as ordained priests of the Circle, and we do wonder why you think we would do you wrong. We are very glad that the Rafiki and others arrived here, a little shocked perhaps about the events, but for the present time all is well we are glad to see the Holy Disease spread to the landwalkers.

In any event, whatever your complaints about this planet, we are well equipped to help you. At the present time our local transponder is transmitting to all Circle Missionary Vessels, calling them to Earth. The time has come for the conversion of these landwalkers. These missionaries will arrive in jump capable ships when they arrive, although it might be some time.

With regard to the current mission, it will likely reach fruition first and be also helpful to your goals. When my people came here thousands of years ago we also arrived in jump capable ships. But at this point we have no idea where they are, the Ocean is very large and we need to try to reactivate their homing transponders if we ever want a chance to locate them.

But we cannot squeak at that frequency. We require a ship with an up to date comm system that can send secured frequencies.

EDIT: Following a series of conversations on the matter with Iggy I want to make perfectly clear to everyone that my NPC's exist to help you develop your faction, not in order to sidetrack you. If dealing with my NPC's is not what you had in mind I am open to listening to people's needs for NPC personalities and builds, Seon for instance needed a better NPC nearby than the pacifists and so he wrote the Cartel (what was in the first update a rogue militia with extra backstory to explain it) in as a faction more to his liking. If you just want to ignore them and build your faction internally then please feel free to do that. It is simply my hope that NPCs can provide assistance to you as you characterize your faction by asking you to make decisions that affect the type of help they provide for you.

I don't think your sneaky like that. I was giving a character trait to my leader. I was just showing his Human belief in "Your word is your bond". Just think about The Yankee Suns position. Leftover Human soldiers & citizens trying to survive on a shattered earth. A Earth that has the defeated Alien invaders stranded all over the place. Some seem good but being Human how do I deal with them? Smiles for everyone? Do I declare xenocide? The only good alien is a dead one? Its a heavy question for any Human or should be.

As for NPCs, weren't they posted that they were for help already, somewhere? I'm still trying to find out a way to use Rainism. :D

EDIT: I could have orders by saturday easy.

Hey,

She danced around the lab like a epileptic head banging samurai. Katana blade, blonde hair, massive boobs, blackout goggles & black lab coat all bounced and jerked their way across the floor on Monty Python legs. In her awkwardly twisting right hand she held one of the greatest pieces of alien tech she could have dreamed of. Sure the Teleporter was a tech wonder, but this was the cherry on the sundae in her book. Her chaotic spasms ended as she turned to face a smiling Jet.

For all the ungraceful movements Jet was surprised at the way Professor Peggy took a step back. Straightened her lab coat and hair, while returning her Katana back to its scabbard at the small of her back. "Sorry Jet. Got a little excited about this." She held up the alien tool. "This is called a Hyperscanner."

"I know it’s a Dr. Who sonic screwdriver." Jet crossed his arms giving a look of grief.

"If you wish." She adjusted her blackout goggle at her neck. "Once study is complete, it will easily bypass the Military Defense Department's security at the Power plant and repair or unlock a wide range of electronics including alien equipment."

She motioned Jet to follow her to a table that had Lt. Rose's Laser displayed. "We have already used it to change the tri-trigger on the China laser. It can now be held in one hand. I was even able to fine tune the bioelectrical disks in Lt. Rose."

"With Mr. Ito's knowledge of biochemical reactions." Professor Peggy moved on to the next table. There laid 4 of the 5 Ukabu Ika lasers. "As you see the Ukabu Ika laser is basically a spear with a trigger near the end." She pointed out the odd slot about 4 feet from the back of the 9 foot laser. "The weapon is somewhat flexible because of it biomechanical design."

"Yes, I have already found sensei willing to teach the use of the spear." He picked up one of the laser, it felt like cartilage. "Could help in the awkwardness of it."

"The trigger is based on biochemical reaction." She recovered a small disk, the size of a dime, from her black lab coat and held it up between her ample breasts. "With the sonic screwdriver." She frowned. "We have modified our bioelectrical disks to trigger a biochemical reaction." Laying down her clipboard, she produced a syringe from thin air & quickly impaled her palm. "This will only take a second." In quick order she produced a scalpel, planted the disk under the skin in the middle of her palm and closed the flesh opening with the hyperspanner. "On a small incision like this." She held up her hand. "The skin is repaired by a bioelectrical message to the cells to speed up Hemostasis." Before Jets eyes the wound closed. "But it cannot be increased to heal anything bigger the a cut."

The diplomacy that you're replying to, and I understand, Southern King didn't seem to get it either, is boilerplate diplomacy meant to announce their intentions to join your faction.

Oh god, now what? I'd prefer all of these "Hebrews were raised by aliens", and "Dolphins are sentient aliens" to come all at once and be done, not one at a time.

Fair enough, maybe it was wrong of me to spread it over the first two turns. It was something that caused me a moderate level of anxiety last night, but at that point it was too late. In any event these are not intended to be overriding groups with a direct impact on day to day events. The two groups instead represent 2 competing philosophies in post-invasion Earth. As with any NPC they can just as easily be ignored, because they will not affect your day to day decisions. They control Wonders, but even the Wonders aren't all that powerful, they all are basically one or two buildings rolled into one. The Pyramids might be cool if you don't have a power plant, but even if you don't there are multiple other ways to solve that problem.

Neter are obsessed with the idea of the Rafiki returning and are too freaked out to invade or hassle anyone, Dolphins live in the water. For real, these NPC's permit me to influence the sort of themes I'd like to explore, but they will not affect the plot or course of the game.

That is all though, there is nothing else on the way along these science and history bending lines.

Also, dolphins, please explain your constant and unrelentless slaughter of porpoises just for the sake of it? You don't eat them, you don't compete for food, and they leave you be?

This? Coming from a Human? The answer I guess is sport, and you know, screw them. Why do you like porpoises so much?

Why? And what of all those cases of dolphins raping humans? Why?

Primitivist means that we possess only a crude knowledge of genetic theory. Are you saying our race of human-dolphin hybrids are not, even now, mounting assaults across the world? Does it not work like that? It's the chromosome numbers isn't it? Barks and Flips used to tell us that the chromosome numbers were different and we would never produce valid genetic abominations that way, but we thought he had just been spending too much time in the deep water and his mind was going, we laughed him out of Easter Island.
