The Kingdom Of Ferrara
The 'Il Unione di Dogana' Officially Formed
In an historic meeting between the royal rulers of the nations of Italy in Livorno, Ferrara, a new economic treaty has been signed and ratified. The Unione di Dogana is intended to end customs costs for businesses trading between the four member nations. The intention is to create a free market across the Italian peninsula and islands which will help massively boost the economies of member nations allowing merchants to move their goods freely across each members borders.
King Silvio of Ferrara said in a keynote speech at the meeting; "Today Italy is united in the goal of economic prosperity. With this new union we create an Italy that is economically one. I hope that people will one day look back at this moment as the point at which Italy began to emerge from the shadows." The speech was met with rapturous applause throughout the room in what has been a truly historic day in Italian history.
Tensions Escalate Over Northern Territories
The Duke of Bologna, Giovanni Neri - the King's top political advisor and chief - has increased tensions with neighbouring Helvetica by declaring Ferrara's intentions to have the northern provinces of Lombardy and Veneto returned to her. Neri talked about his intentions to unite the provinces with Ferrara in a telegram to this very newspaper, the telegram it read; "These provinces are historically and culturally linked with Italy and Ferrara. The peoples of these provinces speak predominantly Italian and it is their wish to be united with their homeland." The Helvetican ambassador has already requested an emergency meeting with King Silvio of Ferrara to see if a peaceful compromise can be found although at this moment it is not known whether the King has granted an audience.

It would be in both our interests to find a peaceful solution to this problem and I hope dearly that you will agree. Our only aim is to have our provinces reunited with their homeland. It is the wish of the people there that this is so and it is our duty to see that these people are helped. Hopefully you shall see that the peaceful return of these provinces to Ferrara is the best course of action.
Yours,
King Silvio of Ferrara
