Sorry, but the Greeks are boring. :p Their architecture was dull, their art was marred by a slavish attachment to realism over symbolism, and the only thing of interest they ever produced was Plato. :p Also a great deal of what I allegedly owe to the Greeks was stolen from Egypt, Babylon, and Persia, so... :p.

@Zaarin, as Luther said to Zwingli, “You and I are of different Spirits.”

Can someone summarize the historical significance of Armenia for me? I'm really unfamiliar about their history, save for them converting to Christianity early on, and having an empire under Tigranes the Great.

I'm glad you asked and I'll be back tomorrow (when I'm more awake) to give a couple of paragraphs on them. Alternatively if you can't wait that long there is always google, wikipedia etc ;)

Most of their historical significance (aside from the survival of a v. distinct culture and Miaphysite religion) comes from their paramount importance as merchants, especially in the medieval and early modern periods. I don't know as much about the Middle Ages, but in the early modern period, a combination of their position as religiously "neutral" within Shi'ite-Sunni disputes, Armenia's position on the main Anatolian trade routes, and the active employment and patronage of the Safavid Shahs led to them becoming extremely important and prosperous, especially in the Iranian silk trade which they had a virtual monopoly on.

Italy has fallen into 6th place.

You're all letting the world down.

I hope you're proud of yourselves.

:glare:

I love the Georgia hype on this forum. :D

We're actually past-due on a spoiler of next week's civ announcement.

We probably aren't going to get a China mistake again. Or at least not this far in advance. They will probably only auto-upload the videos the day of First Looks from this point on since there are no more significant US holidays between now and release.

The Netherlands leak was Saturday before the first look. My guess is that if there is something similar for the next civ, it wouldn't be before Friday evening in Europe. The timing of any potential leak is just a guess, but I do want the results to be unspoilered. :-)

As for the Chandragupta/Cree leak, what Eagle said.

Looks like my view on the civs-to-come is the majority's view on the civs-to-come... I voted the four most popular options.

MLK is Jan. 15th, Firaxis is probably closed that day as well. If so that might impact things for that week.

With knowledge that they auto-upload the First Looks in advance, it's not necessarily about them being at work the day before it releases, but rather if they think people will be sufficiently distracted by the holidays to miss it. I don't think that will be the case with MLK day.
