Pre Vert Nes- World of Altor

I'll just collapse for now then and hope the wolf forgets about me

Problem is, if you can do that, you can kill anything.

You could fling it, but being able to teleport something essentially ends the game unless you meet magical foe who have shields to it.

My answer. Thomas you said you were good at summoning so I assumed you meant a very high degree of skill in summoning alone not conjuration. Throwing a pebble at high speed with your mind is a trick an adapt can do but when a skilled magic user uses this technique it is extremely dangerous for the target. Secondly there are limits to magic one such limit applies to teleportation and it states that a object cannot be teleported inside another object. This law stops magic users from accidently killed when they try to teleport themselves into a brick wall and that is why it was created. There are no consequences for breaking this law other than the spell does not work. Abby that would be a good idea.

Vertinari, is it O.K if I start making a backup character for fun?

Sorry Skeptikalz I had your stats last night but forgot to post them here they are.

Strength= Excellent
Constution= Excellent
Dexterity= Above Average
Intelligence= Below Average
Charisma= Below Average
Wisdom= Below Average

Skep I am not sure if I got these in the right order so feel free to ask me to swap two or more stats around. The current stats are best for an up-front killing machine.

NWAG What do you mean? Would this charater be under your control or mine?

I meant a character I would start playing automatically if Hakara dies.

I have a question. What will the Amulet that a Mage gave me after my training do? (lin's training)

Well?

I have a question. Can the Wanderers split apart. I really like the feel of Larthorn...

I mean, will we have to stay together or can we go different ways?
I mean, I can stay here and eventually become Captain.

The stats are great man. But being below average intelligence.. it won't really mean that I had to act like an idiot or anything right? :P

But yeah.. it's great.. please put me in the game as soon as you can!

Well, we need perhaps some examples for some of this stuff. Is Below Average Simpsons style or Below Average Uncle Joe who has his mind touched Kind?

Below Average just means your a bit simple and a bit less well educated. I asked because it does not fit in with your description at all. The players can split up as much as they like and the amulet will be just that as you did not tell me you wanted it to be magical. Maybe you could enchant it.

Well, then I have a question. Does the scale mail include a visor to cover my face? Because I am thinking of lowering charisma to low or whatever in order to get intelligence to average. Yet, I also don't want people seeing me all the time and being like OH MY GOD HE IS HIDEOUS!! NO!!!!

Like I understand if maybe they refuse my proposals and all that, but I do want to interact with other people. :)

P.S - You forgot to add Wisdom.

How about I swap your intelligence and dexterity around. Note you can not lower your stats and raise another I am sorry. Yes scale mail includes a helmet.

Name- Masion
Age- 21
Race- Human
Class- Warrior

Description: Masion is a good warrior for a human, able to fight fairly well. He has a little leadership talent, if not much of it. He currently fights in an army at war, and hopes to distinguish himself by his deeds...

Backstory:

1- Background:
Masion was born in Ragat City- the largest single prize of the Warlord terrortories. The "Kalnorian Empire" and the "Aslagan Sucessors" (both petty warlords whose power base was a single town) fought for control, but neither had the manpower to establish a major prescence despite control of a gate each.

Ragat City had never developed a centeralised government due to a combination of influences. It is actually several towns which grew into each other, along a single river. United by a strong warlord, they only are seen as one city because the walls surround them all.

The second influence is the Balance of Power policy. Nyantown (actually an area the size of a village), a settlement founded by an ambitious pretender to the Ragat throne, fostered a policy of Balance of Power to ensure early survival- because no town wanted to be conquered, they would all gang up on anybody attacking anybody. The culture at this time was quite agricultural.

This would have worked fine, and actually ensured peace. But (around the time of Masion's birth), "King Jarad", as he called himself, realised that apathy could gain him the advantage. In each place, he appealed to the people themselves, and argued that it wasn't worth their bother to fight them (he himself persuaded his people that if it actually came to a fight, he would withdraw). He would then defeat the local lord in a duel.

Eventually, the Balance of Power policy was followed, and mercenaries were hired. As a matter of fact, almost any mercenary group would have been alright. The trouble was- they hired the Jalkers. "King Jarad" was forced to withdraw, but the Jalkers saw a way to victory...

They were willing to fight, unlike the apathetic populace. They could declare themselves rulers of Ragat City, and only have to fight the local lords. As experienced warriors, they could then proceed to take over and rule like kings...

Such was the plan, but it didn't work out. After their victory, they were forced to call in other mercenaries to stop the advance of the Aslaganites (followers of Aslagan, a warlord). Several of them decided that ruling part of a city was a valuable prize, and decided to take a share over. Ultimately, the Aslaganite Sucessors (Aslagan died, and they were the primary sucessor state) made a deal by which one gate would be theirs.

2- Masion's Early Life and Brothers:
Masion was born in Tyartown, a town in the Northeast with a small farming community. He was of merchant stock, and his family travelled around the city buying and selling the few luxury goods the city created. They could sell little, but could afford to charge lower prices.

Masion had few friends apart from his brothers, as they were always moving around. His only real friend outside them was Pargias, another merchant's son. They rarely saw each other, but had very compatible personalities and interests.

Chend, Masion's elder brother, was a child often getting ilnesses, and consequently even more introverted then Masion. He tended to pick up an impressive amount of scholarship for his age and conditions, and would go on to become an important scholar.

Kalri was born a year after Masion, but after a while was significantly stronger. He had bullying instincts in him, and even mild psycopathy. Their mother kept a close eye on him, so this had less effect on Masion then it could have. But Kalri was never anything like a friend...

Macrar, the next youngest, was an idealist, desiring to go out to war and become a leader. Masion liked him for this, and the two of them were fairly good friends as well as brothers. It was Macrar who first made Masion desire war- though at first, their joint ambition was to defeat the mercenaries and take over the city (stopping the violence in the process).

In total, Masion had six brothers, but these were the most notable from the perspective of his own life (though Osindar's natural weapon skill would become notable during a single important incident).

3- Avalon:
When Masion was 15, an ex-mercenary group (now a de facto warlord state) decided to get ambitious. Hoping to swell it's ranks, it began forcing civilians into it's ranks as auxiliaries. (It only took half the number of auxilaries it had in soldiers, to avoid problems. They were interspaced within the soldier's formation). Jalrein, his father, was forcibly conscripted as the others fled.

As de facto leader (like most of the world, Ragat was sexist), Masion decided to leave the city before the innovation spread. (It did somewhat, though nowhere near as fast as Masion thought). They decided to head for Avalon, hoping it would be safer.

It took a while to adjust to Avalon, but after about six months the family had adapted. For about a year, things were actually good. But then came King Zarat.

King Zarat had been a controversial man prior to his acession to the throne- his beliefs that luxury goods were decadent and refusal to obey even direct orders from his father to use them were well known, and it had become increasingly clear over time that he would attempt to outlaw them if he ever ascended to the throne. The nobility were furious, but for a time the ban took.

Avalon had been acting on the assumption the ban would be ignored- there was precedent for it during Zarat's short time as Regent. Many other merchants had as well- this was not just his error. But Zarat had learned from his time as Regent- and his enforcement was all the tougher.

He had hired large numbers of mercenaries to enforce the ban, and appealed to the common people (he had been pragmatic enough to define "luxury goods" narrrowly enough not to affect them) not to fight for any nobleman that rallied them against it. He had taken measures against assasination, and prepared for war.

In the city Masion was in (though he kept it secret), the most extreme Zarite (a follower of Zarat's doctrine on luxury goods) of them all was in charge- Toth Jarnan. The house of Jarnan were extremist Zarite noblemen, and Toth most of all. He had instituted within the area of his governance a penalty of death for all merchants using luxury goods- including women and children.

Masion and the others found themselves arrested for selling fine cloth (at the time, he was in their tent). Upon hearing the penalty was death, Kalri tried to fight back with an axe and was killed.

Hearing what was going on outside, Masion inferred the truth. Cutting through the back of his tent with a spear, he ran away as a guard rushed in. It turned into a chase between him and a single guardsman, culminating in Masion barely slipping away in one piece.

It was only a matter of time before the city was besieged by anti-Zarat forces. Masion managed to hide for long enough to avoid death himself. But that was little recompense for the sad truth- his whole family was dead.

Grieved, and having lost all his merchandise, Masion joined the anti-Zarat armies in the last stages of the campaign. He participated in the decsive battle of Daxian, although he spent it in the reserves without actually fighting.

After Zarat's defeat, the Kingdom of Avalon was at peace. As was traditional, the nobles had mere temporary forces rather then a standing army. What this meant for Masion was that he was out of work- no job, no land, no merchandise.

4- To the Present:
Masion needed a source of income to survive. Desperate for what by his standards was a decent (materially) life, he decided to seek, repulsing though the prospect seemed, war elsewhere. What he didn't yet realise, although it was starting to awaken to him, was that his personality had a streak within it that liked war...

To get to war, Masion joined the mercenary division known as the "Great Captains" (consistent, as it happened, mostly of people in the same situation). They travelled to warlord lands, "living off the land" (i.e- stealing from the peasants they came across) as they went.

Ultimately, by the time they reached warlord terrortory most of the division had died of disease, including their leader, the "Grand Captain". Masion, one of the survivors, realised that he was in trouble.

Luckily, a nearby warlord was going on campaign at the time. Masion, eager for this new opportunity, joined up...
