Pre Vert Nes- World of Altor

I going in ten mintues. I will see you all on Wesnesday. Bye!:wavey:

Decided to make an extended backstory for Hakara. Is here the right place to put it?

EDIT: Decided to go ahead anyway. Vertinari, I don't mind if you don't look at it.

Hakara: The Early Years
Hakara was, early in his life, believed by his village to be the son of the King (hidden away, his clever conman father had said, to avoid a challenge to the throne). This claim was not true, but it greatly influenced his life. Theoretically, everybody (even the local lord) had to bow to him.

Hakara, although he no longer remembers, actually had a major influence on the life of Jal Rekin. From early on, he was obnoxious and arrogant, and got away with it because of his noble birth. Nobody at this stage knew he was of Magi powers.

At this time, Hakara became one of the leaders of mischief- Jal would sometimes expose him, sometimes he would fail for some other reason, but even when he was caught he got away with it due to his noble birth. He actually ordered his own foster parents around, and even got away with getting people killed. (though he got more cautious after that incident...)

As he realised the extent of his power, he became practically a dictator. After the Regency Coup (in which the local lord put his foot down, but Jal's charisma and his own lack of it allowed Hakara to make a rival power base), he almost managed to get the man executed. (By this time, Jal had fled for fear of his life)

But things began to fall apart. The villagers almost killed Hakara, who only escaped because a Magus saved him. Hakara knew he couldn't go back, so decided, at the age of twelve, to join the Magi order.

The Magi Order:
Hakara made friends with the Order's highest nobles at first. Takita, the previous head of the group, deferred to him. Perhaps luckily, the Magi teachers (who had divined his real origin) decided to keep it a secret.

At this time, a practice had emerged of various people (generally lesser mages) trying to infilitrate the Order and persuade young members to join them with promises of power. In the end they usually ended up with less power, but a Magus as an ally was useful. Tashinyar, a man who knew his true origins, was among them- and had unwisely spread the rumor amongst his colleagues.

The first attempt to blackmail him failed when the Magus told him they knew already. However, Hakara was kicked out of his social group (and moved into the bastard's quarters, as he was one). There, he would mean Chamia.

Chamia was a plant for one of the infiltrators, a young Magi too smart to fall for their tricks, but who knew that the less rivals he had, the higher his own status would be. Relaying lines suggested by adults from the outside, he told Hakara that nobility was internal, and that the villagers believed he was the son of a King because of his "truely regal stature".

This would fail, but Chamia had other means. Assisted in tactics by adults from the outside, he engaged in a metaphorical battle with Hakara to frame him for crimes to get him expelled- in particular, necromancy. The battle took a while, but Chamia was assisted from the outside (magical infilitration was possible because the Bastard's Unit had the worse defences, and Chamia engaged in a little sabotage from the inside).

Ultimately, Chamia was victorious and Hakara was expelled at age 16. He had already lost his social status through the exposure of his true origins. He thought that his life was over, and his potential cut at the seams...

(Chamia would actually do fairly well in the Magi Civil War, winning notable acclaim as an infiltrator. Ultimately, he would switch sides and join the New Magi when he realised how badly the old Magi were doing)

Towards Independence
Hakara began by joining the Rouge's Guild (it had a few Mages as well), unaware they had framed him. He would participate in some robberies, though his Magi power was still late-developing. However, it was only a matter of time before another group revealed that it was they who had framed him.

Hakara would then escape and join, not the Order of Farnes (a minor group based around a single sorceror, yet to have a single Magi), but the Cult. They already had a Magi, and were led by a rambling fool. His teachings, however, contained a lot of sense. He had asked "Why?" for all things, including morality. As he had found no answer, he taught that morality was irrational. Hakara had enough of a selfish bent to take this teaching to heart.

When the Cult collapsed, it divided into two portions- Hakara's and his fellow ex-Magi, Parka's. Attempting infilitrations of his own, Hakara would have sucess for some years. He would attempt alliances with both sides of the Magi Civil War, but both attempts were failures.

The Collapse
Men-hasar, a brilliant advisor to the Old Magi, began a campaign to stifle stealing from their Order, starting in the aftermath of Tje. The robbers were used to safety in far-away locations, numbers, the protection of Kings, their own magical prowess, the fairly large numbers of Magi, the Magi elitist policies, or some combination of these. However, the Magi Civil War had inflated their saftey, and thus their confidence. Men-hasar, however, would not tolerate these "robbers".

Hakara, being a Magi himself, was let off comparatively lightly. He was one of the Council of Ten (a coalition of "magi-stealers") who attempted a centeralisation of the "Magi-stealers" and a combination of all the factors. Men-hasar, however, was the most brilliant man of his day, and these policies failed.

This was an even worse time, because at this time Dalius was trying to end the war. A Magi with such obvious New Magi sympathies was almost certain to end up dead. Luckily for Hakara, Men-hasar's direct superior, Changtai, was a Magi elitist who only supported the Old Magi because they were traditional. Hakara begged for his life, and swore a false oath to fight for the Old Magi. Changtai believed him, and insisted he be spared.

Changtai was actually quite an intelligent man, but had one critical weakness- he assumed that nobody would ever swear a false oath. Exploiting this, it was simple for Hakara to make up a story and escape. Changtai, by contrast, ended up getting killed in anger by Men-Hasar. Changtai's son, Ryzan, would swear revenge...

A couple of things. First relates directly to the Nes what is Moose's great plan and when is it going to happen?

Secondly NWAG the above backstory is excellent but I have not read it all. I will help you iron out a few details as you do not know the recent history of the order. I will outline it in brief here and then we can PM if you want more detail.

The Order is as old as Altor is and was created about 500 years into the First Age. It was set up to find, teach, train and control very powerful magic users who are now called Magi. In these times Magi were a common sight so the Order became powerful. At the end of the First Age the Magi tried to overthrow the Gods and replace Untor with Moriuntora as she had promised them power. It is said the skies burned and three major Gods were killed, the Gods of Life, Death and Magic. Since then Untor has taken over these roles.

In the present day the Order is in a state of civil war and you, the adventurers, were all nearly killed to end it, bar Thomas, by Dalius the current head of the Order and leader of the Old Magi. The Order has split because new ideas have emerged regarding the very nature of magic and the way it is cast. The New Magi, as they are know, belive magic to be a thing which can be used at will and, more importantly, should have no restrictions. As long as you do not harm another peaceful being with your sword you are allowed to use it as you see fit why should the same not apply to magic is the main arguement. Soon everything was called into question and thus two camps of Magi were formed. The Old, like Thomas and Dalius, and the New, like Enzor and maybe Hakara. The New declared war on the Old on the 1/1/10,458/3U (I could not find the old date I posted so this was ten years and eight months ago. The current date is 8/9/10,468/3U. The war went badly for the Old Magi and they were losing but now the power-crazed New Magi have started to fight amongst themselves and the Old Magi have some breathing space maybe enough to end the War with some help.....

Great plan! Who said anything about a plan? I was asking them what should we do. Although we can say that I suggest that Abaddon and attack the wolf from each side and Thomas should stay away from the wolf, near the campfire and try to help us with magic.

Hakara would almost certainly be sympathise with the New Magi. I think I can revise it from there.

EDIT: Just one more thing. What was the nature of the incident that nearly got the Magi killed?

Of course welcome. You need to pick a place to join and write a backstory and your away. It does not matter about length of your backstory but I will say good ones will be rewarded. Then I will roll your stats and your away. NWAG I have changed the backstory and that part should make more sense.

A kingdom or location on the map. Say the capital of Alvalon. I just remembered I need to spearate the maps into a city map, a geographic map and a political map. Don't worry about city names for now but the two players know are Larthorn (village) and the City of Trees capital of the kingdom of Larthorn.

Alright, awesome.. I will be a vampire warrior by the name of Amdis Alamis.. and these are the things I want if it is possible, I read your directions but I am a little confused so here would be a list:

Flail
Short sword
Scale Mail
Silver Shield
Map case
Chain (has a crucifix on it)
3 Vials

(Will I be able to buy things later? Cause I wanted some more things on that list hehe..)

P.S It would be awesome if you could place me wherever these guys are fighting that wolf.. I want to help out!!

and this is my backstory:

Amdis Alamis had lived for what most men would consider many lifetimes. Nearing 400 years old, Amdis had seen much in his younger years. At age 26 he had taken refuse in a castle from a group of highwaymen, for Amdis did not feed on sentient beings, he never felt the power of Fiezarr. He would feed on the cattle and various livestock on the land in order to maintain his strength, but sometimes, it was not enough. At this point, nearly dying, he entered the castle and meet a young man, apparently the keeper of the place, who fed him, called for maids to nurse him back to health, and gave him a room to stay in. Eventually he learned that this man was the King of the very land which Amdis had been living in for quite some time. The King himself was a kind and generous man, but he did not have the knowledge nor the ability to rule over the land and help his people. Amdis felt he owed this man his life.. all his 500 years worth of it.. and so he pledged his loyalty, never revealing to the King his true being..

Eventually, the King conquered and brought peace among his people. Yet from the conquest of those days, he had gotten old.. and at his deathbed, the King called Amdis to his side. "My good friend.. you have advised me well through these times.. you have granted me the courage to take hold and reign as I was meant to.. you were always there with me.." said the good King. Amdis looked upon him and said, "Indeed, my Lord, but it was you who granted me the gift of life". The King looked back at Amdis and let out a weak, but jolly laugh. "No, my friend.. it was your will and persistence that kept you alive... I know what you are Amdis.. I have known since the very day I set my eye upon you.. when it came to it.. I could refuse no being help if he required it.. be it human or otherwise.. I watched you and tested you.. and you never once defied my trust.. and as you know, I'm sure," the King chuckled, "you never do age, Amdis". Amdis started blankly at the King. If only vampires could shed tears, thought Amdis, I would create kind rivers with them at this moment. The King stared deep into the vampire's eyes and said, "My friend.. please.. wherever you go from here.. please take care of my young son, my heir.. he is not yet fit to rule correctly.. may you teach his the ways when I have gone.. for even if I could postpone death for so many years as you.. my knowledge would never be as great." "I promise to you.. your line shall reign fair for many, many years," replied Amdis. "Thank you my good friend.. now let me ask you this.. all these years.. you never told me your last name.. what is it?" asked the King, his voice now weak and dreary.. his gaze now unfocused, staring at the ceiling, as though trying to find his God. "Alamis.. Amdis Alamis.. my friend." The King chuckled a bit, "Amdis Alamis.. the grandest being to roam these lands..", and with that, the good King closed his eyes, and passed away.

It had now been many, many years since the first great King had passed away. Amdis Alamis had kept his word, and had served the King's son well. He taught him as he had taught the King before him, and when it came time for that King to die, the kingdom had grown well and fair. For two more generations, Alamis advised the future kings of the land.. until one of them.. the great-great-grandson of the first king took the throne. He never listened, always denied the things Amdis had said to him, always refused.. thus, his rule was wicked and unfair, and it came that the people set to bring a rebellion upon the castle. When the time had come to defend the castle, the final outpost of truth and light in the land, the King did something that would alter Amdis' life forever. The King came upon the walls of the castle and called down to the militia, and he gave up the secret that had run through his line for generations; that Amdis Alamis was a vampire, and that HE was the cause of the wickedness and destruction in the land. Amdis was stunned, he felt betrayed. He was standing next to the King when the message was shouted from the top of the walls.. and when the King turned to Amdis and grinned a wicked smile, the rage within Amdis knew no bounds. He sunk his teeth into the neck of the King, draining his blood and life force. He took all that he could, every last drop, and watched the evil King fall and crumple, now only a pile of flesh and bone. Amdis felt the flames within his eyes.. he felt the fire within his soul, churning, burning away with every desire and deed which he so wanted to show upon the world after such a betrayal. The people were horrified, and as such began to bombard Amdis with stones and torches of fire.. Amdis leapt down from the walls in a ghastly flight upon them, and unleashed his power. By the end of the battle, he had slain 324 victims under the light of the moon. Men, women, children.. none were spared. The rest fled, and Amdis felt his bloodlust subside.. he had realized what he had done.

Amdis Alamis left the Kingdom, never to return. He stumbled upon a land called Larthorn, and found a small village there where he thought to start over.. but things were never to be the same. He had been one with Fiezarr.. he tasted the power.. that ultimate, blinding, destructive power. He had pledged his life.. so many years.. and eventually, he had been betrayed. The life of a vampire is a long one, and he had come firsthand to realize the treachery of beings.. how things are constantly changing.. never staying the same.. how the hands of chaos, the cards of discord.. are always being played. Now Amdis knew.. he must be the one to change things.. he cannot let chaos bind him; he would have the power to change the world as he saw fit. Things would be different now, thought Alamis. Yes.. much different.

List aproved just let me know what is confusing you and I will do my best to help. Your stats will be rolled now and I will change your silver shield to a silver coated shield as the pure silver shield would offer little protection against physical assult. I will change your crucifix to the symbol of Untor, who would be the closest comparisom. The symbol of Untor is a sun with a boy in the middle, the boy has his arms open as if to embrace someone.

Awesome.. thanks man. Yeah, I was just confused because I saw Abaddon's character has alot of those miscellaneous items while I think it said you could only have 3. That is of course unless he bought them all on his journey and you updated it, I don't know.

Abaddon has posted a lot of lists. Yes he started with a bag full of gold, a dagger, wolfskin cloak and clothes. All further items were spoils of war or brought.

In my weakened state, what characters am I in contact with?

@ Skep. There is a list in one of the first few posts of the main thread of what you can buy. I raised gold and then bought all the things I thought I might need.
