Here's the thing about the Bible, its not really<snip>
Secondly, the way the Old Testament foreshadows the New, and prophecies the Messiah before he ever lived is additional proof that the whole thing is true.
Here's a thing about the NT. Those who wrote it were familiar with the prophecies in the OT. You do the maths.
To use "Compassion" and "Empathy" to defend a God you have absolutely no evidence for is a poor argument.
There is overwhelmingly more evidence for a compassionate, empathetic God, of the same kind of evidence that you produce for your murderous vengeful one.
I expect, though, that you might ask what this evidence is. Well, it consists, amongst other things, of written texts both predating the OT and reaching to the present day. For confirmation (or otherwise, for nothing is certain) of the truth of these matters, you would have to examine these texts and evaluate them against what you feel yourself (putting aside your preconceptions). This is a very hard task. I fully expect you to refuse to do so.
I, too, am extremely idle.
And, in any case, some maintain that it is all absolute nonsense from beginning to end. This too is a point of view that must be considered by any sincere seeker for truth.
You might, if you had a genuine interest in truth per se, look into other books on other subjects a little bit more. And also look at the world around you without those evangelical goggles of yours.
We have to appeal to him, for we are but poor, wretched creatures who deserve his damnation, but by the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ, we can be saved.
This, I have heard referred to as a grovel complex. Do you enjoy it? Does it enrich your life? Is it pleasing to your God, do you think?
Not by universalism, which is an idol leading to damnation.
So be it.
If it be so.
Do you know what an idol is? Who told you this is an idol? Had you ever heard of Universalism before today?
I ask you again, do you have any conception of what heaven and hell really are?
