Preaching Atheism

ITT: MobBoss uses an internet picture to justify never voting for someone because of their religion (or lack of).

If Jesus came to your house one day, and he asked you if you wanted him(Jesus) to do something for you. Would you ask him to explain God and religion to you, or would you ask him to nicen(e) up your kitchen?

.

The more I think about this pun the more I like it. It is that most rare of things: a clever subtle pun. (or maybe I'm just easily diverted)

I thought he was confessing to stupidity.

No, just confessing my lack of tolerance for it. :D

Because of what someone posted on the internet? :crazyeye:

No, but because of what I see as the prevailing thought from pretty much all atheists towards religious people. The pic just captures it in a nutshell.

See what happens when you tell people they're going to burn in hell for eternity? They start getting all sniffy and critical. Do you blame them?

Well, since i'm not in the habit of doing that, yes, I blame them.

Yes, but at least you clarified with "pretty much all". The problem could be that you mostly come across the Fundamentalist Believer Atheists.

That's more honest. Selective observation is a female dog.

And I must say I like the irony of attributing a negative characteristic to atheists while blaming them they are attributing negative characteristics towards theists.

I apologize unreservedly. It is unfortunate, then, that you come in for flak as the result of the actions of others. Call it collateral damage.

Acting all weird and paranoid because a few atheist calls you a nut isn't exactly doing much to contradict them.

There's no point arguing, he's been using that line to raise hackles for years. All of people's politeness and logic hasn't helped. Dozens have tried, easily.

Well, there are this kind of people regardless of left/right, religious/atheism or any other broad characterizing of humans. Thanks :)

You don't even have to preach atheism per se, you only have to teach critical thinking and healthy scepticism. Atheism will follow :)

This? I don't want to tell people that they are wrong and I am right or whatever. Though I'd try to encourage people to not just blindly believe something based on what their parents taught them and such.

Well, when you use skepticism and critical thinking in a certain sense, you realize that people are not right nor wrong. :)

It is not always that simple, you can also be an atheist and evil or religious and good. :)

So would that make us Agnostics neutral (insert Futurama reference)?

When you push a viewpoint, regardless of what it is, you inevitably are claiming you are right and the other view is wrong, regardless of intent. If you find their view incorrect, you have no choice but to not make an opinion on it, unless the blind teaching is about something you agree with.

Is that right?

Is that right?

At what angle of explanation are you asking?

Metaphysics(ontology); foundational epistemology versus skeptical epistemology; strong logic versus limited logic. The list goes on. The short answer is this:

You and I are looking at a dog and a human. I say - The dog is black. You answer - Yes. I then say - The human is wrong. You answer - How do you see that?

Agnosticism isn't some sort of "middle ground" between theism and atheism.
