Prediction Thread

I'm not sure about that. Even for Chinese people, Chinese is a hard language to get the same level of fluency with English or other Indo-European languages.

If people begin writing Chinese in a Latin script, is it still Chinese? Fat chance of that happening though.

I predict that the Tigers will win the College Football National Championship.
Honestly I thought this thread would be 90% sports prediction and instead it's mostly been me space and tech spamming.
:lmao:

When the ball drops in Times Square on January 1, 2040, it will still be true that no human will have ever walked on Mars. Elon Musk, if he's still alive, will still be promising to send people there in the next 5ish years. He'll have done a lot of cool things between now and then, but a manned Mars mission will elude him.

People will have finally gone back to the Moon, but there will be no Moon base.

Can you imagine how pessimistic you'd have to be to say, in 1972, that no human would have been back to the Moon by 2020? I tend towards pessimism, but I'd never have said that. Humanity, step up your game.

CFC, BEHOLD MY GALAXY-BRAIN PREDICTIVE ABILITIES:

Ok seriously though -

Last night I walked the local mall and I saw a teenage girl wearing yoga pants. Only the yoga pants had functional pockets! The seams along the legs split into a V shape around the hips, creating is a thin, low-profile pocket. She was able to put a cell phone in one pocket and a credit card or two in the other. They didn't look bulky either, which is one reason why women's pants don't have pockets. They were functional and yet still looked good in profile. They were similar to this pair:

I predict that Mericans will keep their guns and that shooting down annoying drones will become as popular a pastime as hunting.

The primary advocates of gun rights will be PoC to protect themself against trigger happy cops and their pesky spying drones.

And claims of going to Mars will become a popular joke much like selling the Brooklyn Bridge, that is until the Chinese land there.

I think we'll go to Mars in the 30s, but I think it'll be a quick thing that'll die out for another decade or more. More flags and footprints, no matter what we want or what Zubrin tells us to do.

Musk ain't going to do anything near as he claims - I'll be surprised if one of his ships even land on Mars. I've gotten very pessimistic about the whole thing. Even the blowback in encouraging science and engineering only needs one trip every generation or two, and that's what we'll probably get.

The window to do things was the late 70s to 90s. Now.... It all feels superfluous. Sure the Chinese and Indians will follow, but then what?

HOPE missions are right out. Especially if we do find life on the outer moons; the current trend is to 'leave them alone' or just send more robots.

It'll take something like finding advanced fossils or cities on Mars to spur even a few manned archaeological digs.

For a few years I watched just to catch the commercials and now I've stopped even doing that. I do miss that I don't have that social connection with people. My bosses are all on a fantasy football league and it'd be great for bonding/networking but I just can't be bothered.

Become a hockey fan instead, and do fantasy hockey. And hey, the All-Star Game is this week!

Edit to add: The All-Star Game sucks tho

I can't get into any sports. I enjoy going to live games but I can't watch them on TV. The only exceptions to this are Curling and Red Bull Air Racing but I rarely catch those.

Curling is my favorite sport to watch in the Winter Olympics. I find the strategy fascinating. Sort of a cross between chess and archery played on the ground.

Regarding the Superb Owl, I like the 49ers. No real reason. I barely follow football but it's a good excuse to eat chips and guac.
