Proposed: expansion of foreign language threads

I forgot to answer this.
Do you for one moment think we would be starting a turf war with civforum.de or any other forums? It's simply preposterous. By the same logic, no one should ever have started any other fora after CFC came into existence. Riiight?

Now, why would people from here go to civforum.de? Why would the civforum.de people come here? Do you read your posts before making them?

Edit: Again, I'm not trying to be testy, but sometimes your reasons for not doing something simply do not make sense.

Yeah, I do tend to read what I write, but I'm not entirely sure you've understood it in its context. I didn't say the absence of translations would start a 'turf war' with those forums, but rather that a consideration against fostering a German-language sub-community would be that we're not seeking to compete. And one of the primary reasons for requiring translations is that we don't want a non-English language sub-community to take root. That isn't to say that not requiring translations ipso facto puts us into competition with other forums, but that fostering a German-language sub-community would. Thus, a consideration to do so would be bigger than this issue, and therefore the proposal is crafted so as to avoid that happening. Now, it may very well be the case that the identified problem won't be an issue at all without translations (hence why it's negotiable, and without wanting to jump the gun, may in fact have been successfully negotiated), but that says nothing of the idea that we're not interested in a German-language sub-community taking hold here, which is the issue towards which the sentences you quoted were directed.

The experiment is going live:

Deutsch language threads will be allowed in OT (only for now).
Use the DE prefix which is now available.
Moderation will be at the tighter RD standards

included/spoilered translations are NOT required.

This is fantastic!

Can/are you guys going to make an official announcement on OT?

I hear the voice of professor Hubert Farnsworth…

Any word on the official announcement? Kind of waiting on that to actually start some threads.

I've taken the liberty of suggesting some… amendments to the interesting grammar and vocabulary.

Given you did not lock this thread, i suppose there can be comments on it?

In other forums of this nature (eg TW or Paradox) the foreign language threads are in a seperate subforum, and i think that is a better option (unless you mean the older 'basic learning of a foreign language' threads, but i gather you actually refer to just normal threads in a different language).

Then again, given there are few mods who know those other languages, i suppose making a distinct subforum from the start for just one other language would be problematic. But wouldn't this also be the case for an isolated serial or post 1K foreign thread?

Moderator Action: moved one post from the OT announcement

Yeah I wanted to lock it last night but then my internet connection died...

Anyhow: I posted an announcement thread also in OT and will now redirect any discussion into this thread.

For the time being we have decided against a separate forum and will keep these threads in OT experimentally as it were.

Yeah, that's true, cuz it is NL for the country. I was just thinking of the first two letters of the language

Then we should get a DU (Dutch) tag. Better than NE, people would think we're allowing New Englanders to post in their language and that is a big no-no, as we can't start a turf war against them New Englanders.
