Punching Nazis

The implication being that, if our hero had gone for the gut rather than the face, you'd drop the objection?

I, for one, am prepared to endorse that historic compromise.

Actually, yes, i would be far more sympathetic if he had went for a punch without potential lethal result, so (i suppose?) to the stomach? :)
A punch to the head CAN kill. It also can cause severe trauma. A punch to the stomach likely won't have lasting effects, unless you are The Hulk.

The far better thing to do would be to just tarnish him with words, and then upload the video. But a punch to the face was among the worst outcome, and i suppose the person giving it is liable to be charged and be brought to court (let alone any neo-nazi reprisal...).

In the 1940s Americans were presiding over a brutal system of racial segregation that was still enforced by lynchings.
I'm sure it made them exactly as bad as the japanese, who were testing weapons on prisoners of war (which meant weeks of agony until death), raping and slaughtering civilians by the hundred of thousands, working people to death and so on.

Funny, where has gone the outrage about false moral equivalency that tend to suddendly sprout up as soon as anti-fa and fascists are spoken about ?

And the US had the Tuskegee Experiments, the genocide of the natives, slavery, and Jim Crow.

@Lexicus - claiming to be either a liberal or a moderate is an oft used tool of reactionary right wingers.

What's your take?

It's funny that it's almost always extreme socialists that accuse random people to
be "nationalsocialists" & then proceed to punch them. After all, Mao killed double
as many people as Hitler. So, wouldn't socialists have to punch themselves double
as hard as they punch nazis? :D

It's like Kim Jong Un, who recently accused Australia of "racism". You could ask
the question why a tyrant would accuse others of being evil, but it makes a lot of
sense: It diverts attention, makes you look tolerant & peaceful. Kim Jong Un the
"antiracist" ;)

The truth is that these so called "socialists" have a big public relations problem.
Their ideology killed literally millions of people. And the only way to solve that
PR problem is to do what Kim Jong Un does: Simply accuse random people
of random stuff, pretend you were tolerant & peaceful & hope nobody opens
a history book ;)

Houdini was killed by a punch to the abdomen.

Not sure how dangerous those are usually, yet boxers have died from punches given behind layers of glove, while a punch with the exposed fist is a lot more brutal. I won't be surprised if the victim (re the punch taken, not his personality which is cretinous) faces real medical issues as a direct result of being hit.

And the Mongols had Genghis Khan, and my neighbour kicked a dog, and I'm sure I have an ancestor somewhere who killed someone out of cruelty sometime in history, and that means we're all equally guilty of being nazis.

Well, there were MANY people in ww2 France who loved nazism and even wanted the same party there. Take a journey to the end of the night :jesus:

I agree 100%, and now we are starting to get somewhere. What do you suppose should be done about this going foward?

Yeah but my maternal grandparents actually got the Righteous Among the Nations for hiding jews in their school, so I'm going to have to dig deeper for that.
Or maybe my paternal grandfather. He was Armenian after all, so an Aryan, so he must have been a collaborator somehow. Yay, I'm nazi too !

Warned for flaming.

I'm sorry the answer we were going for was, "Acknowledge the harm done, make amends, and transgress no further." Thanks for playing.
Yeah, no, I'll stick with mine, which is much more relevant to the point than this one.

So you don't think modern day descendants of those who committed atrocities have an obligation to make things right?

My favourite thing about these arguments, is that, while it is true Mao's state apparatus killed tens of millions of people, it's also true that the ostensibly capitalist apparatuses of, say, Europe throughout much of the late 20th century, killed 10s of millions of people in Africa and Asia, too. So really, a casualty calculator is just a race to the bottom for all parties involved.

I'm waiting for your payment (because after all your ancestor in 1150 killed mine so you owe me reparations) with bated breath.

If you can demonstrate that an atrocity from the year 1150 has had a material impact on the lives of people today then I'm all for reparations.

Well, you made the point that all crimes are equals, so I don't need to get a measurable material impact, just the existence of a crime is enough to declare you guilty and responsible.
