question, What decides the chance of producing the different kinds of great people. .... like 45% chance of great artist, or 70% chance of a great prophet. Cant make any sence of it.

Wonders and specialists.

Every wonder which gives you GP points will give them towards a particular type of GP. For example, the Pyramids gives GP points towards an engineer great person.

Also, specialists give +3 GP points towards their type of great person. For example, using a scientist specialist will give you +3 GP points towards a great scientist.

The article DaviddesJ referenced is VERY handy.

EDIT Actually the way the percentage is calculated is far more complicated than having GP sources contribute "GP points" towards GP types. That explanation is useful as a guide, but the article by Kylearan is much more accurate in its explanation.

How do you post screenshots and saved games and such on the forums im kind of a noob at that

Go to the links bar at the bottom of every page, there you'll find a link "Upload File". Click it and follow the directions. After you upload you can put the file in your post by hyperlinking to civfanatics.net/uploads##/filename.***. Where ## is the uploads folder in use and the *'s are the file type. The file name must match exactly, caps included.

Does a city need to be a certain size to be able to keep it upon capture? I captured a barbarian city (pop 1, I think) and didn't get the option to install a Governor, it was automatically razed. What's the deal?

Hey civilians :D I'm a noop i have a quick question ;)
Is there a manual that tells what exactly i need to build a good and growing city/ies?
I mean so it tells what buildings are important and which i should build first? Thanks :D

*edit*
Or what should i start learning first? I've completed in-game tutorial, but many things are still not clear..

Is there a Map Editor feature in Civ4?
I like to make up my own scenarios and modify existing ones; especially for "what if..." scenarios.

Yes,one way is to start a game then click the menu box on the upper right then click the world builder tab.

There is also a forum here "[civ4] creation and customization" check it out. :goodjob:

The special edition came with a book but you'll find much more info right here at Civfanatics.

In answer to you question -- one startegy for "growing cities" is to get pottery and then build graneries. The granery "basically" cuts in half the amount of food needed to add 1 to the cities population.

Now as to "good" cities, well that's the crux of the game. [civ4] encourages specialization of cities. If you need military units build the barracks. On the border -Wall. Large cities will need religious and luxury buildings to keep people happy.

Good luck. If you have specific question just keep posting here.

When you capture a city that has built a wonder, do you get any of the benefits of the wonder ? In particular, do you get great people points ?

I'm going to capture a city in the GOTM, and once I decide to keep the city there's no going back (right?), so I'd like to know beforehand. :king:

Yes, you get the same benefits as if you had built it yourself, for world wonders. (National wonders are destroyed when you capture the city.)

You get all the usual benefits except the culture.

Is there a master list somewhere of all the buildings that influence your ability to make specialists? Same goes for buildings (mostly wonders) that also influence the great people birth rate. For example, if I want to be able to assign more priests, is there a list that tells me all the buildings that grant the ability to make more priest specialists?

Take a look at this http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=141802
It should help you

EDIT Just be careful though as it's an old reference and might not be up-to-date for v1.52.

I would like to create a scenario that will not progress beyond the renaissance era and technologies. Is that possible? If so how do I go about doing that?

Thanks for any help with this.

I have played through a couple of games now, but there is something that I must be missing with reguards to trading. Can anyone fill in the blanks please?

I am currently in a game (at Monarch level, if it matters). I was the first to discover Alphabeth, and proceeded to trade with several civs for a variaty of techs such as mathematics, sailing, and mystesism... Now, I was looking at the trade advisor, and before trading for mystesim, no AI showed as having Meditation or Polytheism (obviously). As soon as I acquired Mystesism, these techs showed up for several AI's, but under the heading "CANT TRADE". Why is that? I still had alphabeth to trade to some of these guys, so I had something to offer, and I now had the prerequisite tech. So, why could they not trade it to me? What am I missing?

How do I add a downloaded civ to a downloaded map.

@Jastrow- Are you talking about the ones in red? Those are the ones that the AI has decided are too valuble to trade. Put your cursor over it and you can get a reason why.

No, I am not... Those in red (when they are their, I currently have none in the above game), are labelled "WONT TRADE". This is different, saying "CANT TRADE".
