Is there a post or table somewhere that says when units become obsolete (can't be built) and what they get replaced by? For example, warriors become obsolete when a city can build spears, axes, and swords, and any warriors in the queue become spears, while archers become obsolete when a city can build longbows and xbows, and become xbows. Is there a complete list for all units somewhere?
If you have the BUG mod (and if you don't, stop everything immediately and load it) there's a chart in the Sevopedia that shows unit upgrades. It even plugs in the UU of the civ you're playing as.![]()
I have the Mac version of BUG, and I see the chart, but that doesn't do what I want.
I'm asking because I'd like to know what units I should pre-build (but not complete) in my queue to speed unit production when I get a desired tech. For example, suppose I want to build a cuirassier stack. Is there a mounted unit I can build while I'm teching MT that will auto-convert into a cuirassier when MT comes in? Same question for macemen, rifles, infantry, etc. I know I can't do this with swordsmen because warriors become spearmen, not swordsmen, and I can't do it with trebuchets because catapults don't auto-convert to trebs, they can be produced alongside them.
I'm surprised this table doesn't already exist, it seems like useful information.

Hi guys, new here and I have a question concerning tiles and promotions:
Say I have a Guerilla 3 Gallic Warrior standing on a flat tile next to an enemy city on a hill, does he get all the bonusses Guerilla 3 provides him when attacking that city? Because he kinda goes up that hill and fights there if he survived the defenders' first strike.
I have a genuine noob problem. I cannot find how to add a signature to my posts.... On other forums there usually is a big obvious box for it somewhere in you profile but here, i searched all over the place, read the forum rules and even tried to google it but to no avail. Is it because i need a minimum post count? I am at a total loss and beg your help![]()
You need to be on the forum for ten days. Same thing for me, it drove me insane..![]()
Yes, the fight takes place in the city, which is on a hill. You get the strength bonus and retreat chance. But that doesn't mean it's going to win, check the combat odds tooltip before attacking.
Yes, because he's defending on a hill. He doesn't actually "descend" to the flat tile unless he attacks. The battle always takes place on the defender's tile, so any defensive bonuses (through terrain and/or promotions, etc.) are with the defender. Thanks! And what if I have a Guerilla 3 Gallic Warrior defending a city which is on a hill, and he is attacked by a Crossbowman from a nearby flat tile? He has to descend to attack the Crossbowman on the flat tile. Do the Guerilla 3 bonusses help him out in that situation too?
