Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

So does it pay off to upgrade a unit up to a unit two levels away (archer to crossbowman) or to update him twice, first to longbowman then to crossbowman? That takes a little bit of math to find out. I don't know if it is an idea to wait with the upgrade at all...

According to the formula catalin77 posted, there's an overhead of 20 gold per upgrade - so upgrading twice costs 20 gold more compared to upgrading two levels. He even said as much:

Idea is to upgrade just one time(directly) your units, graduated will loose 20 gold for every upgrade.

I guess you're right!

I got a litte mixed up in my thought there! :-) Figouring there was some other cost attributed to waiting. So each time you upgrade you pay 20 gold and that's the difference!

I think it's pretty weird that they took away the shield bonus of dispanding a unit.

It's not like you kill the old units. The soldiers get retired and should be put to some new use.

You can't upgrade archer to longbowman, after to crossbowman, longbowman is upgraded to rifleman. If Rifling is not very far, sure you will wait for it in peace times, losing 20 gold for longbowman or crossbowman intermediary upgrade is bad...

You have to compare 20g with the marginal utility of having a highly promoted unit now, as opposed to later.

Mechanized Infantry with City Raider 3 are great, but I don't keep my CR3 Macemen around until Robotics. They become Rifles as soon as it's possible.

I know that when other nations adopt Emancipation and I don't, my cities become unhappy. But I don't know what the specific minuses are for not having Emancipation when others do...

Is it a -1 (“we demand Emancipation”) for every country which has adopted Emancipation?
Or is it a time-based or city size-based penalty?
Or does the penalty affect a certain percentage of the population, and if so, is it capped at any point?

Any insights would be welcome.

That's outdated...the emancipation unhappiness in each of your cities is affected by the population of your city and the ratio of cities under emancipation to total number of cities in the world.

From tachy's thread: iUnhappiness = 0.4*(CityPopulation)*(Number of cities under Emancipation)/(Total Number of Cities in the world)

Thanks. That's more complicated than I thought. So, takeaways seem to be:

Emancipation unhappiness can be no worse than 39.99~% of your city's population
The more cities you have relative to other Civs, the less Emancipation unhappiness (because you're increasing the denominator)

Right, seems like an obvious one, but for some weird reason, couldn't find it anywhere. When you conquer/wipeout a civilization; do you gain all their technology?

Thanks

If I recall you just select the cities (Shift + click?) in the city screen and the button is at the bottom right.

No results:(.I have just BUG,not BAT.

You don't have the fist button at the bottom right. Did you try Alt+F1. Do you actually have 2 or more cities on another landmass?

Not sure BUG mod even matters, it is a vanilla feature. Not sure BUG changes actually changes anything about the feature.

Thank you,is OK now, with Alt+F1 'select the colonies..'.But is strange,I have 3 cities in 2 small islands, aprox 25 tiles distance to my main continent, and I have just 'never mind',can't select them colony.

Do you have vassals disabled and/or already 18 civs in the game?
