So does it pay off to upgrade a unit up to a unit two levels away (archer to crossbowman) or to update him twice, first to longbowman then to crossbowman? That takes a little bit of math to find out. I don't know if it is an idea to wait with the upgrade at all...
According to the formula catalin77 posted, there's an overhead of 20 gold per upgrade - so upgrading twice costs 20 gold more compared to upgrading two levels. He even said as much:
Idea is to upgrade just one time(directly) your units, graduated will loose 20 gold for every upgrade.

Figouring there was some other cost attributed to waiting. So each time you upgrade you pay 20 gold and that's the difference!
.I have just BUG,not BAT.
