Quick Questions and Answers

May be the wrong thread, but does anyone know if they plan on differing the units for geography. Like in Civ IV, they had asian , american , african and I think two different eurpean units for a lot of unit types (workers, swordsmen, spearmen, knights...)

I hope they do this again.

Some units already are.
European settlers have a donkey, American a lama, Asian a water buffalo and middle eastern a camel :)
Ironically that's something I really disliked about Civ4, playing with the Zulu and seeing your settler being white :crazyeye:

But, to get back to the question: I believe there's a mod called RED (or something) that tries to differentiate more units than just settlers :)

That joke is pretty funny but I hope it wasn't racial.
Huh? I don't know what you mean by that? If my memory servers me well the settlers were white even if you'd play the Zulu in Civ4. It wasn't meant racial (nor can I see how).
And if you mean the 'ironic' part: Civ 4 had differentiated units for spearman for example, which Civ 5 doesn't, but Civ 5 does has differentiated settlers which Civ4 hadn't (as far as I remember).

Yes the graphics are much harder on CivV.
I loved the Oromo Warriors and Ballista Elephants.
Do you know the name of the mod that changes the direction units face and such?

6. I am spending far too much on buildings/wonders each turn. Any way for me to go into a city and delete certain buildings/wonders from them?

7. Now that I am late into my game each ''next turn'' slows to an absolute crawl. My ''game'' sessions are largely spent waiting for loading, which often times crashes and puts me back 5 turns to the last auto-save. Granted I have loads of Civs/CityStates in this game, but is there a way to reduce this load time (I've already put most graphics to ''Low''.)

6. In the city screen, if you look to the right side you can see your buildings there (may need to fold out the buildings-list), if you click on an unwanted building you can sell it that way (don't worry, the game will ask for a confirmation first).

7. Try playing the game in strategic view, I've heard that might speed things up.

Thanks for help on 6.

I should have mentioned that I'm already playing in strategic view.

What does "personality" of a City-State means? I saw there are irrational, hostile etc... ?
You just need to hover over these terms to find out, tooltips will tell you.
But as I'm typing anyway:
'Hostile' means they are more likely to request the extermination of another city state.
'Peaceful' means they are more likely to have a peaceful request.
'Irrational' is more random.
And I think there was another type of personality as well, but I forgot which.

If you're noticing the game takes much longer on every 5th turn, I'd recommend turning off the autosave entirely (make sure to save manually every turn or two, and to different files!). If it's the same every turn, I'd suggest changing your autosave frequency to every turn, so you don't lose as much when it crashes. Smaller maps might also be a better bet. You could also try playing in directX 9 mode, if you're playing in 10/11 currently. Other than that you can upgrade your RAM, or your computer as a whole. Civ 5 is a horrible resource hog, straining even higher end systems. If you've already got the FX turned all the way down, there's not a whole lot more you can do from a software perspective.

Additionally, relations with "hostile" CS decay 25% faster than all the other types. Other than that effect, personality only determines which missions they are more likely to give you.

I'm sure this question has been asked many times but I've tried searching through previous forums to avoid asking repeat questions and haven't had much luck. I am trying to find a way to add some of the music from previous versions of civ, along with some custom music to enhance my games. I know Civ IV had a filepath to do so, and from what I have read Civ V does not. I just purchased Civ V over the weekend so understand I am still a bit new to this version.

Thanks to you and Optional for this- I have never worked out what they ever indicated.

(That being said, I have never attacked a CS for the benefit of another CS anyway. Maybe if it is useful to me to do so. The frequent requests I find annoying.)

Unfortunately that's not possible (yet).
Maybe there's a mod for it, but I don't know.
(Mind you, most music in civ5 is actually quite good :) )
Anyone heard from that Fortune-Telling-German-Guy yet?
I just checked the topic, but no news from the German guy ('trineas').

I agree the musical score for this game is great it was more of just an add on for me. I love the Industrial Era songs from Civ III and just was hoping there was a way to add them along with a few other songs that would go well with the game.

These two in particular:

I can't mod whatsoever so hopefully someone knowledgeable in such areas will be able to create something for this.
