Random Rants : Bloody hell!

My control over my spending is... poor.

I saved more money when I made less.

Treat saving as if were a bill. Place 10% of your income every month into a saving account. Never touch it unless to invest it in something safe.

Day trading is NOT safe. Commodities are REALLY not safe. Any mutual fund that has a "load" is not wise because no-load funds do just as good or better.

But checking gives more interest than savings

Don't use a savings account for long-term savings; the rate of return is less than inflation so you're burning money keeping it in there. You should be putting it into some kind of diversified portfolio or retirement fund or at the very least a Money Market Account which is going to give a return above 2.5 or 3%.

Otherwise the advice to "Always always ALWAYS pay yourself first" is very very good advice.

Put it into an account you won't be taking money from.

If everything goes right, I'll be dead before retirement age.

Does that mean "There's no way I'll ever be able to retire so I'm working until I'm like 82" or "I intend to die young?"

What if everything goes wrong?

Woke up early today and made myself breakfast. Now I'm tired from having relatively less sleep, and, as a result of being tired, my attention span is way low. And I have a ton of stuff to do today, a day I expect to be up very late. Argh.

O, what a panic's in thy breastie!

Oh. You've just reminded me that the names of Greek letters are mangled beyond recognition in English.

More so in American English, naturally.
