Random Rants Eighty-Four: Rants Gone Wild!!!!

I have contacted the authorities. $3800 out of pocket to fix my car. The insurance company will only pay for one coat of paint. My car has a number of coats of paint from the factory, and one coat of paint apparently will not cover the damage and body filler needed to cover up the words. The alternative is new door panels which will cost upwards of $2500 each, then I still have to have them painted as they only come with primer on them.

According to the police, I was not the only car owner that suffered this fate. They are looking for this punk. If they catch him/her, that person will appear in civil court with me and pay me the money I am out of pocket. That is after the court system is done with them criminally. And if he/she's under 18 and subject to the Young Offender's Act, I will sue his/her parents. I have a very good lawyer.

Oh yes, I am a tad upset.

I hope they find the miscreant.

Rant of my own: over the years the local association football broadcasting rights have been bought up by US companies. These companies have set up special premium (i.e. pay-per-view) channels for those local tournament rights, which is now compounded by the insult that is the gridiron football final a.k.a. SuperTazón being forced onto me and relentlessly advertised across all media formats.
Thanks, USA!

Rant: I hate MediaFire. It keeps trying to redirect me to bad sites. (uBlock Origin stops it.) Unfortunately the mods I need aren't on other sites.

She's also New Scotlandish.

Interestingly, if you do visit tinypic, it suggests you switch to their "sister company," Photobucket. (Or as I like to refer to it now, Moderator Action: Redacted .)

So many old forum and blog posts destroyed.

Moderator Action: Aimee, you know better than to bypass the autocensor. --LM

This is the first pandemic scare I've lived through as a grown adult and I'm deeply unimpressed. It's agitating to see people in total safety panic and walk around with masks and buying out supplies.

I need rubbing alcohol but it's been up-charged everywhere. $22 for a bottle. Nah. And my landlord tried selling surgical masks to me because he "has a baby and doesn't want to bring home the corona." The masks won't even do anything! You're being stupid! He actually has a reason to be cautious since we have the virus here and his wife's family is Chinese, unlike all the other people wearing masks in the US thousands of kilometers away from the nearest case, but his method of prevention is useless! Stop it.

Anyways, $22 for like 510 ml of rubbing alcohol. No thanks.

My understanding is that influenza is still far more dangerous?

For someone outside of the infection radius (aka the vast majority of Canada and the US), almost certainly. It has a similar infection risk as influenza and a higher mortality rate, but there's a reason why quarantines work.

The most concerning thing I've heard about it (which is nowhere near enough to actually concern me) is that it is contagious for as much as seven days before it is symptomatic. If one really active person has it by the time they have any indication that there is something wrong an entire city could be exposed.

If he really cared about it, he would give you the masks.

From what I read, the masks only help if you already have coronavirus and don't want to spread it to other people.

I always love it when expired domains redirect me to porn. :wallbash:

IIRC that's an improvement over the original suspicion, where it was stated to incubate for up to two weeks before rearing its head. So "up to a week" is better with that in mind.

People who circumvent quarantine are an obvious danger. Luckily, if you pinpoint ground zero quickly enough, the risk of quarantine breach overseas is minimal so long as the host country is doing what it should (and it seems like China is, despite the censorship).

That all flies out the window with an opportunistic mutation and another outbreak. As it stands, though, we don't have much to worry about here. Certainly not to the point of clearing out entire warehouses of their supplies to the point that hospitals are now unable to restock should the worst come to pass.

Edit: To keep with the ranting spirit, I just find it really aggravating that people "expressing their worry" are really just acting like conduits for increasing panic. Their anxiety makes them think they're in imminent danger and then they broadcast it to thousands of people online, who in turn start thinking they're in imminent danger too. And it's immensely difficult to "set the record straight" once that happens.

It takes much greater effort to set the record straight than it does to knock it askew in the first place. Purveyors of fake news are well of this.

The alarmist clickbait headlines don't probably help either.
