Yes I agree, the whole movie was pretty awful from a Star Trek perspective. As an action movie it was kind of standard and I don't care for most action movies.

Star Trek films are awful because they're Star Trek.

The nuTrek films are awful because nobody who works on them (actors and crew combined) understands real Star Trek. The last good Star Trek movie was the fourth one (with the whales).

A good film with whales? Surely you mean Free Willy.

From what I've seen of interviews, I think Simon Pegg gets it, but a non-American actor playing a still less-American character only has so much sway over the creative direction of a bajillion-dollar franchise.

I think you're being too harsh to Undiscovered Country and First Contact, Valka.

Yeah and the whales one was not very good to be honest.

I started the newest Trek movie last night. It started with a bit of humorous violence which made me go oh no, here we go again. That opening was very brief and the movie moved on to serious diplomacy and exploration, which I very much approved of. Then it was back to violence, then more violence, then even more violence. I got about 2/3 through it last night and I plan on finishing it sometime this week. I don't hate it, it's certainly an upgrade from the last movie (which was a lame rip-off of ST II) but it's not amazeballs either.

It was surprisingly good, but that's compared to the previous two. I've never been particularly impressed with the ST movies, though. First Contact was decent. Insurrection and Nemesis were... serviceable.

The media network I work for wants me to do a one hour presentation on the US election even though they're bound to dub me and I don't know what the point is. I'm very self conscious and worried about appearing on tv. I'm the only native English speaker in the company so that's why they asked me to do it. They also expect us to stay pretty much the entire night at work even though I explained it makes no sense for us to do it considering the time difference it would make more sense for us to just come in the early morning.

I'm not being harsh enough. Where did Kim Cattrall get the idea she can act? And they just had to shoehorn Michael Dorn in everywhere. One of the reasons Voyager is my second-favorite Star Trek series is because he's not in it.

I did like the parts that took place on Sulu's ship, though, and enjoyed Christian Slater's cameo. He would have made a good addition to any Star Trek series or movie.

As for First Contact, I liked Lily. And that's it. The rest of the movie was utter crap.

Honestly, some of the fan films are much better - maybe not technically, but I enjoy them more. It's a shame the Axanar bunch had to wreck things with their blatant copyright infringement so CBS cracked down.

Didn't get my contract prolonged.
I know that this normally doesn't happen here, but I thought I'd have a chance, given that like a half dozen of people rely on me, this type of work will increase in the lab, and it doesn't seem they're hiring someone else to do this job.
No idea how I'll manage with the 4 months of unemployment money. The current workload asks for like 1 year more.
Means I'll also definitely need to find a cheaper accomodation, this appartment is just too freakin' expensive.

That sucks :(

I hope you get a pleasant surprise, or otherwise make the best of it :)

I was walking to lectures and got pretty startled when I suddenly noticed directly in front of me a recently dead pigeon (not decayed or scavenged)

I've voted in maybe a dozen different elections at various levels of government in my life... never once have I been given a "I voted!" sticker. I guess I look like enough of a jackass without one.

If it smelled fresh then you should have turned it into dinner. Pigeon breast is quite delicious.
Isn't that-similar- a delicacy in Iceland? At least left to rot :)
There are pigeons in Iceland?

The same happened to me yesterday. :S
