Maybe you also need to ask elsewhere ^^.

Getting scooped sucks. I haven't been hit yet, but one of my rants that I have delivered more than once to my collaborators was published this week as an opinion piece in a membrane journal. They asked me to proofread it.

Thanks, buddies. You could have at least offered me second author.

Ouch, that sucks too.
I fear something like that will probably also happen to me. Because my professor made up some 7 collaborations or so (don't know...too many) on the fly, and half of the people haven't even answered my questions about what exactly they want from that.
Okay, not much work, but still...

I mean, they did do the math to back it up, it's not like they didn't publish original content. But if they are working on an idea that I was promoting and agreed with, I would have liked to have been on the paper.

I can just imagine what it's like to have a thesis scooped. It's not a good image. :(

Google is evil. Yahoo or Bing instead.

Sent via BBerry 6 cuz android & iphone suck

If you're going anti-google VR, you could at least duck it up. Duckduckgo ftw. When I can actually find what I'm looking for. Which is sometimes.

Hard to believe he wrote too long a test because he's busy. Any chance that the extra length was a kind of test-within-a-test: see if you can glance through quickly and size up the largest number of questions you can answer in the allotted time, then apply yourself to those. Were a bunch of easier questions at the end (to "penalize" students who don't bother to take in the whole before starting on any part)?

I only propose that because you say he made a point of stressing before you started on it that he was aware it was too long to complete.

While a good point and certainly possible, it's not necessarily the case that he had time to write the exam but not to proof it. Professors typically pull out old exams/homeworks/book problems and copypasta them into new exams, which doesn't take a lot of time. I know my professor does this and it would have been very easy for him to stick together a couple of really long, complicated problems without necessarily thinking through how long it would take for a student to solve it. As he would also have the answers already written up to go with those problems and then if he didn't have time to physically work through them as a time-proof, then he could have easily misjudged how long it would take us.

In any case, anything could have happened including your suggestion. I don't know for sure what was the actual case, all I know was that he boned us pretty hard without lube and I'm still butthurt over it.

Yeah, that sounds unfair :/.

It's not *that* bad, since I actually haven't done any work in that direction yet (because I've been bombed with some side-projects for a half year). But I feel like the goal is getting set higher and higher (because more stuff is developed in between), and that I'm losing the connection to the whole thing.
But yeah, I don't want to imagine how it would be if I'd also be on the way to a publication about the same thing. I'd probably be crying right now.

Good: The prof said during lunch that he has now a rough idea what could be done.
Bad: 2 hours later it turned out that half of the data is crap. Well, not my problem, I still have a dataset, and it's more a problem for at least one other person, so not directly affected, but somehow I don't think this is going in a really good direction.

More bad: Too much stuff to do :gripe:. Means again at least one work session at the weekend.

I do not want to hear 4 days of JFK was killed 50 years ago. there is current news in the world.

Think anyone said the same thing about Abraham Lincoln? :mischief:

The thing is here, though: isn't a psychologist highly likely to suggest you have some kind of disorder?

I've never heard of one pronouncing someone completely normal.

You normally don't go there if you don't have a problem.
It's not like going to the doctor, if you feel a little bit ill.
The needed willpower is a lot higher. So you don't do it, if you don't feel the need.

SouthernKing, did you speak to the psychologist only once (sounds like it)?
Because that should be to early for a diagnosis.

At some point you'll rise from the ashes…

I was without Internetz for three days. I have urges. It's as if the pun was shining out of my every orifice.

No, this was the fourth or fifth time I'd talked to him, so I'm inclined to believe what he says.
